Who's Your Favorite Character?

My favorite character is definitely Erik. He can be sweet and seductive or berserk and violent, but in the end, all he really wants is to be loved for who he is. As a character, he has so many different levels of complexity. In fact, I'd consider him one of the most intriguing fictional characters ever created.

Not far behind on my list of faves: Christine, Mme. Giry, the managers, and Reyer. :D So what do you all think?

I cheated and voted for two, because I couldn't pick. Erik and Carlotta.

Erik, because - he's Erik. I don't know. Mysterious and thrilling and dangerous - Erik.

I chose Carlotta because she's funny, and way over the top. She reminds me of me sometimes, in a terrifying way. And, no matter what the movie seems to imply, she is a good singer. I wub her.

I voted for 2 as well because I couldn't decide properly. I love The Phantom because of how dark and mysterious he is, and how he goes after what he wants and can also be seductive.
I also voted for Raoul because in the film he has a bigger role than in the stage show and he is heroic and romantic and I guess I love guys like that.

I also cheated and voted for... 3! I voted for Erik (of course!) Raoul (the darling) and Meg. I think Meg is so sweet.. well she isn't really in Leroux's novel, but in the movie I love her. I love it at the end when she looks at the mask with that sad look on her face.. so touching.
I think it's pretty obvious why I love Erik.. I feel so much pity for him.. he really is so beautiful.. he is the Angel of Music to me.
And Raoul.. oh, such a sweetie. Love him. How come people always call him a fop???? So courageous, such a darling... so hot too! (lol)

I voted for Erik and Mme Giry. Like the rest of you have said, Erik is a mystery and a wonder. ^_^ I mean, you gottas love the tortured types. ;) As for Mme, well, there's just something about her that I really liked. Maybe it was her loyalty to Erik, but I'm not sure, really.

Wow... I cheated a lot more than the rest of ya'll! I voted for Erik, Christine, Madame and Meg Giry and Firmin! :) I think they're all amazing! But my top 2 are definitely Erik and Christine! Erik is so dark and mysterious... and Christine is so light and innocent; they're the perfect match! O sorry, it's for the characters, not the couple! I'm always trying to turn ppl into EC fans... *hits forehead* Anyways, I love Madame and Meg Giry for how protective they are of Christine, and Firmin just cracks me up!!!

Yeah, I voted for everyone I mentioned in my first post. Those are: Erik, Christine, Mme. Giry, André, Firmin, and Reyer.

I just noticed something... I forgot to put Buquet in! (smacks self on forehead) And since I'm not a mod, I can't go in and add him. :( I wonder if anyone would actually vote for him? :D

Raoul. I voted for him because I love his chivalry and I just think he's a gentleman... my judgement is probably really clouded at the moment due to Movie!Raoul, but I can't help that... he's hot mate ;).

I also love The Phantom and Christine though, they are absolutely brilliant characters... The Phantom because he's so mysterious and obscured... Christine because she's so sucked in by him! I also really like the character of Meg Giry... I think she kind of got left out a lot, even though she had a great part.

Well that's true, but she was in here a LOT more than she was in the book, ya know! :) Just thought I'd add that in here very quickly... I do like the character of Meg; she was a nice addition to the film!

Some of my favorite characters from the opera are Christine, Phantom, Meg Giry, Madame Giry, and the orchestra manager. But on the technical part of this thread, I just realized that this probably needs to go in the Character forum. I'm moving it there right now.

He is simply amazing...I adore the man to death. I mean, Christine's fine, as is Mme. Giry and Andre and Carlotta... (I hate Raoul, though...) But Erik is and always will be the top of my list.

I love the character Madame Giry as well too, because of the way it seems that we don't know what is going on with her. She's always in the most opportune spots, and she seems to know stuff about Erik that we could possibly not imagine. She is afterall the the Ballet Manager. :D

My Fav is Raoul...I feel bad for the chap...the way he gets trashed on boards like these...The Phantom (I call him that becaue as far as I know, because I was turned on to phantom by the stage/movie version and not the books) The Phantom is in my top 5, prolly #4. Here is my top 5:

But I will say that two out of my three most fav songs from POTO are PONR and MotN!! Both sung by Phantom, and one a duet!! But he's still only #4. The other fav is AIAOY!! Just look at my siggy!!

I cheated and voted for both Erik and Christine. Erik is so passionate and just . . . wonderful! Christine, on the other hand, is innocent and lovely. I'm basing my opinions on the Leroux book, but it's the same in almost all versions, except for a certain 1998 horror flick . . . *coughs*

I voted for Erik. He was so mysterious and dark. He had scars that no salve will ever cure, and he was shunned by the world for being different then 'the norm'. Solitude drove him to madness, along with his obsession with Christine. But, then again, isn't that what love is? Faith, passion, affection and madness.

I don't like Raoul. I guess that I've never been attracted to the pretty, rich boys. Something about his attitude annoyed me to no end.

My second favorite (although I only voted for one) was Mme Giry. That lady is everywhere, and she knows everything that goes on in that Opera House. That's how I want to be when I grow up. Always up in everyone's buisness, knowing what goes on, and having deep secrets of my own.

I love Erik, of course. He is a tormented musical genius with a disfigured face who just wanted to be loved. And Christine and Raoul. I've only seen the movie version so I'm basing the characters from the movie. Patrick's Raoul made me love the character, so I also voted for Raoul. I also voted for Christine because she is pretty much the central character, and she makes the story interesting.

I have played Christine before, and I love being her, but I don't particularly like her character... shes so unstable, and babyish....

Wow, I'd love to be able to play Christine. It seems like such a fun character to play. I wouldn't want to be like that all the time, but it'd be cool to step out of my little amount of stability for the time being.

I still love Mme Giry the best. How can people not love her? She's like Erik's female self, only without the killing.

Erik because he's...God. :) Lol-but really, I'm not just a Gerard phan girl, I love Erik because he's Erik. I didn't even know who Gerard was until I saw Phantom. I immediatly fell in love with his character, and I can't help but cry at the end of the movie every single time.

Christine because she's so innocent, yet able to stand up for herself. She's beautiful and wonderfull talented, yet she may have a slight flaw in her taste of men. (No offense, Roaul fans) She's just a great character, I loves her.

Carlotta because she is a beautiful, misunderstood, wonderful singer. I don't care what anybody says about her, she's not in anyway a bi***. In fact, if you say she is I'll poke you with my spork of dOOm. :) She's a great person, I loves her too.

And finally, Ubaldo Piangi because he's Carlotta's love interest, and also misunderstood. You may think of him as just the big fat guy who follows Carlotta around, but he's so much more. He really d oes love her, and I imagine their love is a beautiful thing.

Anyway, just my opinion, pay no attention to me if I offend in any way.

My favourite characters would be Erik, the Phantom, and Christine Daae. I suppose that the reason for which I like these two characters as much is because they are both very complexly built, and they both have a lot to show the entire world. Erik, for example, is often misunderstood, and I like the fact that he is ambitious and capable of anything so as to achieve his goal.

As for Christine, I like her especially for her huge talent as an opera singer. After I have seen the musical, I started being a really big fan of both the character and Emmy, who plays her. She is just so feminine, and really seems like a gracious opera singer. :)

I love, Erik. Mainly Gerard Butler, but yeah. I think that he deserves more than the world hating him. I think that people should get to know him, than judge just because of his face.

Christine saw through his face, and yet she still loved him. He sings beautifully. But I think that it is wrong to kill people.

the phantom he is the best character it must be a hard part to play because you have to feel so many things at once! you have to be dark, kind, romantic, sexy, and you have to be a genius{well he is a genius that's turned to madness} it seems like a hard role. BRAVO GERARD BUTLER! I LOVE YOU!

My fav characters would have to be Erik and La Carlotta.I really like La Carlotta because shes such a dramatic character! Shes also quite funny! and well I like Erik for too many reasons to type!

My favorite character is Meg Giry. She is sweet and is a good friend. I like her voice. I admire her because she is a dancer. I am interested in ballet.

My favorite is Christine, because I see so much of myself in common with her. Plus I look up to her, because she starts off naiive and innocent, and blossoms into a strong-willed woman who must make a terrible decision.

I also like La Carlotta, because the person who sings for her (movie and play versions) must be very talented, because she is a coloratura -- and that's a very difficult form of soprano to sing. She's also such a comical character. Plus it's difficult to sing with an accent, and to sing over-the-top like Carlotta does.

The two managers are also my favorites. They're hysterical!

This may be a bit of a cliche, but my fav character is the Phantom hands down. Not because i can relate, or his devilish good looks, fascinating sense of humor, but because of his voice which makes me melt in one big goey puddle, but in the book as well he's still my fav, out of the other crazy opera members.

My favorite character, hands down, is the Persian. He's such an enigma without even really trying to be. And the way Susan Kay portrayed him in Phantom... Well,that showed his humanness and his close bond with Erik, which made the end of the book all the more poignant. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to have to betray a friend for the good of others or have a friend betray me to save another, but it was such a phenomenal way to show him! It's a pity Nadir has never shown up in the musical; sadder yet, IMO, that he doesn't even have a character thread on this site... I may just have to remedy that.

Erik. He's attractive with his love of music and his passionate love, but he does lose me at the obsessive nature.
Christine because everything lies in her hands. Two men adoring your is rather hard to live with. I hated that feeling in just being someone's friend who was in the situation. Bless her soul, the two of the men almost got violent.
Madame Giry, she's just sooooo awesome. In the movie she's version mysterious as well as the play, but in the book she just sounds a little but carried away, but all characters have their downs.
