A single tear rolled down Erik's cheek. "No," he whispered. A hope, unlikely and desperate, but a hope nonetheless. That Christine would hear him, run to him, comfort him, be his again. No.
He choked down the worst of his sobs, enough for him to think about the recent past. But this brought nothing but more sorrow for him, and eventually, he had to give in to the grief that clawed at his heart.
She was so close to being the first one to truly love him, so close to being the one that he held dear. He had never known what love was until the blessed, yet cursed, day that he heard her lovely voice cast a spell around his heart. It could not be true, he would not accept it!
And yet. . .
