I thought I'd start a thread on the new song recorded for the movie since I've fallen in love with it. You can tell from my avatar, signature, location, the whole nine yards. So what do you all have to say about it? The only thing I don't like is how the DVD has the recording so low that you have to turn up your TV's volume all the way up to the top. That annoys me, but the passion of No One Would Listen makes up for that.

It wasn't available on the Australian dvd, but I downloaded the song and some of the screencaps and it is indeed lovely! It is such a sad song... But so moving. I actually think that Gerard sings that much better than he sings all the other songs. (I'm not a huge fan of his voice, but he did sing that one beautifully.) I sort of wish they had left it in the movie, but I can see why they had cut it out. It was immensely moving to listen to. Poor Erik. It makes us sympathise with him even more.

I thought that it might not have flowed very easily in the movie's storyline. It was slow moving and had no "plot" to it, but none the less it was beautiful and heart taking. The set was really colorful on the DVD but when I saw screen caps of it they were brown and dull. I guess the DVD recorders do that to stuff. :(

I really adore that song! And I know what you mean about having to turn the volume up all the way, Steve. That gets on my nerves, but it's WELL worth it! I though they really should have put it on the soundtrack... *pouts* It just pulls at my heart every time I listen to it... I just feel so bad for Erik! :( But it's beautifully written, beautifully sung... I honestly cannot think of a single bad thing about this song! My favorite lyrics are:
"Suddenly a voice in the gloom/Seemed to cry 'I hear you!'"
*sniffles* That just really makes me tear up SO badly...

The new song makes me believe even more that Christine would have chosen the Phantom if she had the choice, but she needed to choose Raoul and go on with her life. If she had chosen the Phantom she would have been plauged to a world of despair (though full of incredible singing and intense passion!) :D

I listened to that song waaay to many times for my own good! That's my favorite song now! Absoloutly (sp?) 100% Top Song! YES! It's so sad especially when he WIMPERS -faints-

That song is incredible. It's definitely too bad it's not in the movie, but I can see why. I think ultimately they knew that if that song was in the movie that too many people might feel *so* much sympathy for the Phantom that everyone would end up being mad at Christine for not choosing him, and thus kind of messing up the ending. Yet, on the other hand, what would have been so bad with showing the humane side of the Phantom? Because that's definitely what that song reflects.

I see how you mean, about it not flowing very well with the rest of the movie. But I feel so sad that I will probably never get to see it for real now. You Americans and English are all so lucky!
The screencaps I saw of it were pretty good... at least, they looked fine to me.
I was incredibly moved by the way Gerry sang it. :mask:

Not many people can have a song, whimper in it, and still make the song sound good. It truly showed that Erik was human and not some beast that everyone portrayed him out to be. He has a heart and it was broken by Christine, the one that he could connect with the most.

I absolutely love this song! I have no idea how I managed to resist the temptation to listen to it before I saw the DVD, but I wanted to see and hear it first on the official release. I immensely prefer NOWL to LTBL, and think that they could have found a way to include this scene in the film. They could have fit it right in between Mme. Giry's Tale and Journey to the Cemetery, and then the emotion would have flowed very nicely. I wish they had at least included it in the film soundtrack, so I wouldn't have to burn my own custom disc that included this song. :D

lol! Christine, you're halirous :D...and I agree, his shirt wide open...ahh *sigh*. I think they didn't put it in the movie because it would have made the Phantom come off as too innocent and heroic in ways, which would have kinda thrown everything off. *Shrugs* I love the song myself, too...it's so sad though :(.

No One Would Listen...I adore it. It's beautiful, breathtaking, mournfull, flowing - it's brilliant. The lyrics are beautiful and the music awesome; I sing it all the time. Watching it, the set is absoloutly amazing! I love the colours, and the mist..and the first shot of Phantom being him crouched by the water singing softly to himself. The open shirt is irrisistable! Gerry sang it absoloutly amazingly, so full of meaning and passion and longing... ah, it's brilliant.

Yes it is truely wonderful, heartbreaking. I love it. As well as I loved learn to be lonely.
I hven't seen the movie frequence, I've only heard it, but it's wonderful. I look very much forward to see it on film.
"But at last I voice in the gloom, seemed to cry, I hear you!"
(weeps uncontrollably) "How could you Christine! How could you leave him?" (to hell with the fact he was insane, he was insane for you)
Gerard Butler's performance was heart breaking, I loved him as the phantom.
I bow in the dust for you, Andrew Lloyd Webber....

God . . . this song makes me cry. I love it! I love it to pieces!
I've been singing this song all over the place. It makes me want to say to Erik, "Oh, how I love thee! How I dote on thee!" I'm a Shakespeare fan, too, you see. Titania to Bottom, "A Midsummer Night's Dream".
If I knew Erik personally, I would seriously dote on him and hope to God that the pain would go away. This song makes me want to do it so badly! I want to reach into the TV and hold him.

Actually, I think the film sort of did that already. I mean, the only really atrocious thing Gerik does is kill Buquet and Piangi, and those were really downplayed compared to the stage musical. Just my opinion, though. :D

I think "No One Would Listen" is now my 5th favorite POTO song, behind "Point of No Return," "Music of the Night," "Wishing..." and "Down Once More." And I think that if the film had included this song in the theatrical cut, it would have definitely won "Best Original Song" at the Oscars. :D

i love the song! i could only hear it (i couldnt see what was happening on the screen, my eyes were BLURRY!!) .... it made me BAWL! i watched it after i watched the whole movie, so i was already crying, then that made it like 10 time worse.

I absolutley fell in love with this song. I believe that they shouldn't have cut it out of the movie though because it told why he fell in love with Christine and showed how sensitive he can be. I also hate how you have to turn the volume on the T.V up extremely loud but thats all right. I always have that tune in my head.... like right now! lol

I love this song...I too have heard it to the point of knowing by heart...but then I say to myself that it is ok and go the rest of the day haveing it stuck in my brain. I agree it is a good song and that it is better than LTBL and some other songs but I have to say that it is not my favorite. But pretty close...I rate it as third place for me.

I got the evil DVD that doesn't have it, but I heard it once when I was over at a friend's house. It was so beautiful, it made me want to cry again. (I couldn't, my friends was watching me with dry eyes.) I felt so touched by the song and the lyrics were amazing.

When I first listened to the song I cried. Although I could barely hear anything he was saying, it still touched me. The way Gerard sang it was so beautiful and he held such longing in his words I couldn't help myself. And my family doesn't get it. They have never seen the movie, they don't want to see the movie, but I did and I cried and they looked at me funny. Oh well.
Does anyone know wher i can find the lyrics? Or can some one post them for me? I would really appreciate it.:)

Sure thing!
I have yet to verify them,. but these are the lyrics found on www.letssingit.com. Sorry if there are some errors, but it's someone elses words, not mine:D
No one would listen
No one but her
Heard as the outcast hears.
Shamed into solitude
Shunned by the multitude
I learned to listen
In my dark, my heart heard music.
I longed to teach the world
Rise up and reach the world
No one would listen
I alone could feel the music
Then at last, a voice in the gloom
Seemed to cry "I hear you;
I hear your fears,
Your torment and your tears."
She saw my loneliness
Shared in my emptiness
No one would listen
No one but her
Heard as the outcast hears
No one would listen
No one but her
Heard as the outcast hears...

Thank you so much. I have been searching for the lyrics for so long. When I was reading over them and I came to the part...
Then at last, a voice in the gloom
Seemed to cry "I hear you;
I hear your fears,
Your torment and your tears."
I started to almost cry again. That part is the saddest in the whole song. Just reading it you can have a sence of what life is like for him.

It's so sad. :( I think it's one of my favorite parts of the DVD, and I didn't even notice in until recently.:o
It just makes me feel so bad for him.
I definitely agree, though, that if they would have put it in the movie the ending would have made more people mad (like it did me :D ).
*Sigh* But I just love it. I'm so glad that scene's on the DVD. It's sad, though. But still wonderful.

My first post, i agree with all of you, it is a lovely sad song, and should not have been cut from the movie, maybe someday they will do a directors cut and return it to where it should have been from the first.
Gerry's solo and they cut it, bummer.

That was a great song. Once I downloaded it I couldn't stop listening to it. I agree that it tells that Christine might have chosen the phantom if she wasn't in between two men who she had to chose from.

I truly wish they would have put this song into the movie, but i'm sure there was a reason for it. At the end of the movie I already thought that Christine should have chosen the Phantom, but if he had sang that song as well I would have been bawling at then end. And, although Minnie Driver does sing the song very well I still wish Gerard Butler would have sang it on the soundtrack, but Minnie did deserve to sing that song after she didn't get to sing much of Carlotta. But it was a beautiful song!

I downloaded this onto my computer--just the soundtrack--and immediately made the decision to spring for the 'extended' wide-screen movie. Ebay--$12 plus shipping.
Ya know, 3 weeks ago if somebody would have mentioned Gerard Butler, I woulda said "who the heck is Gerard Butler???"
My horses miss me!
It's a fantastic song! Does anyone (perhaps with the companion or otherwise) know where this song was meant to be in the movie? I've ripped the audio of it to my computer and added it to the POTO Soundtrack. Based on the costumes, the Don Juan model etc. I guessed that the only place it could really have been was between "We Have All Been Blind" and "Raoul I'm Frightened".
But if anyone knows differently, please let me know. Thanks.

Really? From the deleted scene clip, to me, it seems most fitting perhaps after 'Music of the Night', while Christine is asleep and he's musing about why he loves her... Though you could be right, as it fits there as well. Hmm.

I have watched the scene a million times now and it makes me feel so sad for the Phantom. I'm pretty sure the scene would have either fit good after "Music of the Night" or right before the PONR scene. I dont care for Minnie Drivers version...don't get me wrong she can sing, but I love Gerard Butler's voice! Learn to Be Lonely and Music of Night are the perfect songs to listen to on my ipod before I go to sleep at night. ALW did a great job writing this song! I really wish he would have put it into the movie though.

When I first read the lyrics, they confused me. After all, it wasn't an actual part of the in-theatre presentation of the movie. I wasn't sure if it was a legitimate part of the movie, or some stupid lyrics made up by a psychophan...
Then I heard it.
I thought it was incredibly emotional, but, since I was intensely hyper when I heard it, the whimpering made me want to laugh.
Then I called myself a hypocrite and gave it another listen. The intensity of it is mind-blowing. LTBL has the perfection, NOWL has the passion. It's... just pure, unadulterated heartbreak. I wish so badly that they had thrown it into the movie. That way, they could have made it an entirely different take on the Phantom... but they didn't. I hate JS and ALW. HATE, hate hate hate hate. No hard feelings... just wish they had found a way to put it in the movie.

I just saw it for the first time today! It was so sweet! It seems to me, though that it would fit right after All I Ask Of You. Because he mentions how her fears of him drew her to Raoul. Unless I heard wrong, I tend to do that often. And he seems sad, why would he be sad about Christine right after Music of the Night?
I might not be so confrused if they had kept it in the film.
But I loved it, I had the snifffles after watching it. *Tears Up A Little Bit*

I'm another crazy phan of No One Would Listen. It sooooo should have been in the movie because it offers a different personality view of the phantom and lets us understand him far better. Granted it's short and quite but so intense and passionate that you cant help but fall head over heels for it.
Long Live "No One Would List", and hopefully next time someone will!
I liked it. Not my favourite, but it's really good. I've only been able to listen to it by downloading it though...

I couldn't tell what it was after..by his outfit I would guess after music of the night...but I agree why would he be sad after that? OMG, I love this song!! I almost cry every time and the shirt thing too..... *drool* so sexy....
*cough* moving on....
Anyway, this song truly is beautiful but I agree with kashmir. I don't think it would've helped with Christine's decision to go with Raoul. I mean, lets face it, I was still mad at her the first time I saw it anyway but that song would've made it worse... *sigh* I guess that's what Phan Fiction is for. ^_^
If they were to put it in the movie I think that they should've replaced it with the scene where Raoul is trying to get out of the little trap that Erik set up. I've always thought of that scene as being pointless. But that's just my opinion....
I can't really say anything else because its already been said! I love this song to pieces and it just makes me want to hug Erik every time...
Which DVD has it, actually? I don't think mine has... And I'd really like to see the video.

I thought it was supposed to come after the R/C chapel scene and right before the "seal my fate tonight" part...it would be interesting to see him go from tenderly singing of his love for Christine and his loneliness into the madness of his obsession once more as he dons the mask for DJT!

It's in the official companion book for the movie, in the original screenplay.
It states its supposed to be directly before Seal my Fate tonight...
The reason they cut it out was because the whole continuety of that scene clashed with the previous and after scene...
But It would have been awesome to see it in the actual film though...
btw, I managed to get a copy of the double disk for my bday....*squee*

I love this song, I think it is beautiful and gives you extra empathy to the phantom. It kinda puts you in his shoes or reminds you of a time in your life when you felt like you where outside looking in. Hoping to find that someone to relate to.
Part of me wishes it was in the movie but at least we were able to hear it and see it. It could have been brushed under the rug and never been heard.

At first I didn't know what you all were talking about then I looked for it on Youtube. Needless to say, it made me tear up. My family has a long line of of being teased and made fun of. As was I. To be honest, this song reminds me of the time I got my first best friend. Some kids were teasing me at recess when I was in 2nd grade and this girl tells them to stop. Her name was Vita and she was sort of new in class and she told them to stop. I said "Vita, I'll handle it." But she said no, she'll handle it. We beccame best friends for a few years. We lost contact but I have a new best friend now and she and my other friend were made fun of too so we're really close now.
If I were in POTO, I would date Erik. I really would. But I would take him by the hand and lead him out of the darkness of his lair. I would show him the beauty of the world. I would take him for a nature walk :)

Yeah, I see this song as more of a stand alone. It's more like a phan-made tribute, than an actual scene. It would have been awkward to put it anywhere in the movie. It belongs in the Deleted Scenes.

I think of this clip so much as a video that they just made for fun, I continue to forget that it was deleted from the actual movie. *gasp* I think it would interesting to have challenged the writers to somehow add this scene, but really there's not much action or understanding happening in the clip. But I must admit, this is a different song from the rest of the soundtrack, and I'm very impressed with Gerry's vocals :D
A_Single_Rose

I think Gerry did all right for an actor with little voice training. It certainly wasn't terrible, but you can definitely hear the strain in his voice during the higher notes. It's a sweet song, but the style definitely would have stuck out from the rest of the musical if it had been added to the movie.
I think he should just stick to acting. *goes to drool over King Leonidas*
