What would the Phantom be like if he were here with us today in modern times? I've always wondered that ever since i read Becky Meadow's book "Phantasy" and she did a creative twist on placing him in the role of ALW's Phantom reincarnated- (a creative idea, but not all that as a book). Would Erik be cool, composed, musically inclined, arrogant, crazy, romantic, or what? Where would he be if not the Paris opera House? Who would he fall in love with, what would his deformity be in our advanced medical knowledge? Just curious about your input/

I would hope that Erik would be the same. The difference between then and now is that many people come with more deformities and diseases and such. So Erik's case probably wouldn't be the first. I'm pretty sure by now they would have a solution to be able to change his deformity if he wanted to. Maybe there will be a reincarnated Christine as well to fall in love with him. If not i'm sure one of us would find him and try to make him fall in love with us...lol! I mean if he looks the part of Gerard Butler and acts like Erik in all the books why not? However, it's weird to not picture him in Paris under the Opera House, but who knows? I would just hope that he could have a happy ending for once!

I would hope he was similar to how he was back then. He seemed so amazing and enthralling that I would be in awe of anyone who was so connected with music like Erik. His deformity woudn't bother me personally, and the predjudice against him would be slightly less although not eliminated. Perhaps he would find another Christine, or maybe he would just reside where ever it happens to be that he's living. Who knows, but either way I hope that he finally gets the closure he deserves and would finally know what love is.

Perhaps his parents would have taken surgical steps to lessen the deformity when he was younger-- cosmetic surgery for practical reasons, you know. Skin grafts, bone reconstruction... Perhaps he would even look normal because of modern medicine!

I actually have known someone who was a lot like our phantom. His name was spelled "Eric" and he was around 13 when I knew him. He had a hole in his neck from a tracheotomy, a wiry figure, buck teeth, and glasses. He was obsessive, manipulative, and somewhat violent. He disguised himself as a friend, even if he wanted more. Creepy, yes, true, yes, exaggerated- no.

Well now there's such a thing as plastic surgery so maybe there wouldn't be a Phantom in modern times.

A guy living under an opera house would be kind of cool...but then he'd be more like a hobo and not a Phantom.

*sigh* I can't win, can I?

Hmm...I hope he would be happy, if anything! I think he could get someone to love him. LIKE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also hope that he wouldn't be much different. I like his character....he's my favorite one. Well, in modern days, I guess that would be sorta hobo-ish. BUT I'D LOVE HIM ANYWAY! :D

I love playing around with this idea in stories, hence why I write so many modern day fics. I enjoy putting the characters in different situations, such as living in modern times. Erik in my stories usually has a similar personality, and deformity, but his living situation varies. I have one where he's living in an abandoned music shop. I usually ignore plastic surgery or write it as being botched somehow, which caused the deformity or made it worse.

However, in real life, I think someone who looked like Erik would get plastic surgery, which would probably help a fair amount. His personality might cause some problems, but his appearance wouldn't be such a big issue as it was in the 19th century.

I think with modern medicine, they would be able to cure his deformity, and I couldn't see him living anywhere but under an opera house or somewhere underground.

I believe that he would either have some kind of plastic surgery (and a prosetic nose) or have a straight-jacket and a nice room with no windows.

Erik would still be Erik, no matter what time he's in. Of course, I think that the police would catch him a lot faster with modern technology...

Interesting input everyone.

I once had a friend that had deformed past and a very dangerous childhood of many things on many levels, but he was very attractive so not in a deformed way was he related to Erik. He was very, very, very,--and more more more 'very's--gifted in music and was highly smart and witty. More of a outsmarting the human mind than anything else. He was artistic in many ways--literature, photography, paintings.

In about every artistic aspect he was like Erik. He was outcasted despite his very attractive personality--once you get past his silent phase--it surprises me that no one at school admired him as I did.

He was dark, mysterious, and very loving and passionate. Depending on how we are talking about Erik it would apply:) But he wasn't obsessive or easily lead on, well, because no one liked him like that. And he was hated or envied by people at school, sadly. But the funny thing is his name was Erik Lloyd :) haha
