Minoru Inoue
06-04-2006, 12:33 AM
Name: Inoue Minoru (In Japan, family names come first)
Age: 17
Occupation: Organist
Personality: Extremely shy and unnerved by anything sudden. He is prone to breakdowns, and berates himself for being so emotional. He longs for someone to protect him in this new setting he is so unfamiliar with, but he is far too terrified of social encounters to get to know anyone. He accepts the feelings he harbors towards his own gender, although he is afraid to show them publicly.
History: Born and raised in Kyoto, Minoru never got to see the beautiful landscape of his city. His parents noticed his gift for the piano at a very early age, and jumped at the chance to make their son famous. They had him concentrate on only his piano, forcing him to devote up to thirteen hours a day playing the instrument. His parents homeschooled him, feeling that the private schools would have him focus on matters other than the piano, that they deemed "unimportant." Their son was a prodigy -- whether it came naturally, or not. They hired the most gifted teachers they could on their meager salary, and watched Minoru's ability grow.
Minoru, on occasion, would sigh and say that he was tired of practicing. However, his mother would snap at him, and force him to play for longer hours through the night. Minoru complied, because he knew no other lifestyle; he did not know enough about the outside world to be jealous of the other boys going to school, and playing sports. He never even got the chance to play with other children his age.
In his prepubescent years, Minoru was allowed to perform at certain social events. The audience was mesmerized by the young boy who played such heartfelt melodies. Minoru's name spread throughout the city, and quickly the Inoue family received phone calls requesting the young prodigy.
In his teenage years, Minoru began to tour throughout nearby cities -- always with his parents. He occasionally raised a hesitant hand to wave at a fan. His mother slapped him every time he did so. It was during these years that he began to experiment with other instruments. The one that caught his eye was the organ. There were so many keys compared to the piano, and it produced such a strong, willfull sound. Minoru felt the instrument could express the assertion that Minoru never could. Minoru felt a certain power running through his fingers each time he played the organ. That became his instrument of choice.
At the age of 16, he was considered to be an adult in Japan. Several theatre companies in Kyoto requested that Minoru work for them. Minoru declined their offers though: Kyoto was far too close to his parents. Minoru's hatred and fear of his parents grew so much that he couldn't stand the idea of living under their control any longer. He secretly requested a job at the Paris Opera House... and he was accepted. His parents, of course, were against Minoru moving all the way out to Paris. But since their son was an adult, they had no choice. Minoru worked at one of the theatre companies in Kyoto for a year to save up enough money for his trip to Paris.
Equipped with no social experience, in a place with an unfamiliar culture, language, and people, Minoru will struggle to finally define who he really is. It will be the people around him who mold his growing personality.
