Am I the only one here who's a fan?

*crickets chirp*

Ah...well.

Unfortunately, I've never seen it (*tear*) though I hope to soon. Plus, there's always the movie they're making. (With the original cast! Yay!)

I find it heartbreaking. There're certain parts I cry at whenever I listen to it. (Did that sentence even make grammatical sense?)

And I'd love to be Maureen...in it...onstage...someday...

I remember seeing this add on Broadway when I was up there in April of 2004. I didn't go and see it though, and I've got no clue what the whole show is about. Would you like to give me a brief discription? :)

Mark & Roger live together. Mark is a filmmaker and Roger is a songwriter. Roger has AIDS which he got from his girlfriend (who got it from doing drugs) (and killed herself). Benny used to be their roommate, but married a rich girl and completely transformed. Maureen is Mark's ex-girlfriend, and a performance artist, who is now going out with Joanne, a Harvard-educated lawyer. Collins and Angel...are together...

Act 1 is really just introducing them as friends, with the intros (to the other characters) of Mimi, a 19-year-old junkie, and Angel, a transvestite. The group of friends (Mark, Roger, Maureen, Joanne, Mimi, Angel, and Collins) are self-proclaimed "Bohemians."

Mimi and Roger aren't steady in their relationship. Neither are Joanne and Maureen. Both couples break up and make up several times. In Act 2 a bad, sad thing happens which I won't give away but changes them and kind of tears them apart.

Roger goes to Santa Fe, Mimi is with Benny, Maureen and Joanne are together (again) and Mark is all alone. Roger comes back. Someone almost dies. They're all friends again. Whoot.

That was a really terrible excuse for a summary, but it's incredibly complicated.

Rent....I love Rent....I haven't seen the show, but I can't wait until November 11, 2005...that's when the movie is set to come out world wide!!! Idina Menzel, A.K.A. Elphaba in Wicked, is reprising her role as Maureen Johnson!! As well as a good number of t he origional cast!! I love the OCR!!!! I'm torn though....I don't know if I want to be Roger or Mark if I had the chance to be on stage...

I would almost give anything to go see it!!

I love Rent!!! Did I mention that I love Rent!! Cuz if I didn't...I love Rent!!!

Haha, I haven't seen it and don't know much about it, but I've heard "Seasons of Love" and, well... fell in love with it. That song, at least. "How do you measure..." *hums* Heh. However, I DO know that it is supposedly a modernized version of La Bohème (or is it La Bohéme? meh. no matter). You know, like West Side Story is the modernized version of Romeo and Juliet. :tongue:In any case, I really want to see this. :)

I can't wait for the movie either! Although I don't believe Nov. 11 is a worldwide date, just for the U.S.

And everyone except for Daphne Rubin-Vega (original Mimi) and whoever played Collins in the OBC is going to be in the movie.

Collins is played by the the Original Cast Memeber, but Daphne Ruben-Vega isn't in it, she is replased by Risario Dawson...it could be interesting to see how she plays Mimi...

No one has seen this play?
I saw it earlier this year, January 8th to be exact. I fell in love with it and have loved it ever since.

As for the movie, the OBC Collins (Jesse L. Martin) will be playing his role. However, Daphne's being replaced by Rosario, and the OBC Joanne is being replaced by Tracie Thoms.

Hehe, that's my birthday. How crazy! :D

I've never seen the whole thing, but I know a bunch of songs. My choir also sang "Seasons of Love" last year, which rocked my socks off. That song is really fun.

I am so excited for the movie! I've only heard One Song Glory and Seasons of Love from the OBC, and I'm so excited to actually see it (movie form or not). Yay, Idina Mezel is in it! She's so amazing. *sigh*

I KNOW!! I just saw it this week, it's amazing. I can't stop singing "La Vie Boheme". I can't get over how amazing it was. Just as good as Chicago, which hopefully means Oscar gold....:D

Yes, singing and acting was definately as good as Chicago. Rosario, in my opinion, should definately take home a lil' hunk of gold for her portrayl as Mimi Marquez!!!

I had 525,600 minutes to (pun intended) catch the movie version, and it's already gone off the movie theaters! I'm going to have to wait to see it on DVD, since I'm not going to Broadway any time soon. The music is so catchy... *sings 525,600 minutes over and over in his head* How do you measure... measure a year? ;)

I love the show. I liked the movie, but there were a few things that irked me. I didn't like Rosario at all as Mimi. She was way too sweet. Jesse, on the other hand, did not disappoint. He had me in tears during 'I'll Cover You Reprise.' He clearly gave the best performance in the movie, in my opinion.

RENT. Is amazing. I've seen RENT on Broadway, and I love the movie. I actually have two versions of the soundtrack, and I seriously enjoy it. I love Maureen and Angel. It's all so great, and the music is great. ^_^ I can watch it over and over, it's that good. I still like phantom better though .

Oh I really want to see RENT on broadway. I've heard it was amazing! I have seen the movie and I must say I loved the cast of characters they picked out! I think most of them were supposed to have actually been on broadway except for maybe one of them. Either way their voices were absolutly astounding and who doesnt want to get up and dance to "La Vie Boheme"!!! The CD is defently worth buying!

I love RENT!

Admittabely I have only seen the movie-version of this, though I do want to see the broadway version as well. I love this play because of the issues it brings up that most people usually ignore (at least here they do). Such as drugs, homosexuality, human rights, etc.

Plus I'm a bit of a romantic. My favourite character is definitely Mark. ^_^ He's just so cool for a nerd. Heh.

I love the song La Vie Boheme, it's most likely my favourite. Though I also love Seasons of Love and Without You.

Oh my goodness, I had heard of Rent before the movie came out you know when they first showed it a decade or so ago, I always remembered that song "Seasons of Love", but never remembered where it was from. I never saw it or listened to it though until the movie came along then I became obsessed. I'd love to see it on Broadway or any stage to be specific, one of my close friends, Clari went to see it when it came to Chicago. So jealous.

I too like it Rachey for the issues it deals with like AIDS. My favorite is Roger, I am a sucker for the bad asses. Mark is cute, I wish he had someone at the end. *sniffles* Angel is the best, he can work those heels better than I can! Plus he looked good either way twas amazing.

La Vie Boheme is great, but my favorites are "I Should Tell You" and "Finale B", oh oh and I also love the one Mark sings at the end. *tear* I have the Original Broadway Cast recording now and am sad they cut out that one song before the I'll Cover You reprise. Tis a good one.

The songs that weren't on the soundtrack (including the ones in deleted scenes) are also on my computer. Rodger was definitely awesome too. In fact, I scare my sister because she who is just as addicted to PotO as I am to RENT (though I do love PotO too, of course) is worried on how I've seen the movie maybe 5 times and can tell you what song is what just by a line.

For example, Steve's (The Phantom) usertitle is entirely too easy. LoL. I saw it squee'd so very happily! (Without You!) But yeah, I think I like La Vie Boheme the best for the actual sequence, because I soo want to try that one day, just walking into a small cafe and pushing tables all together... except they might kick me out. :( Meh, details...

Seasons of Love is a favourite too. I sing that all day long sometimes.

Hehe, I'm glad you like my usertitle. :] I find it Phantom-ish too. <3

I have to say that I have become an absolute Rent-Head lately, since I've gotten to watch the movie nearly a dozen times. I hate to say, but I'm more obsessed with Rent right now than I am Phantom. ACK. I just feel I can relate to the songs of Rent so well... everytime I listen to "Life Support", or any of the songs that tell us to forget regret and move on... I take it to heart.

This is a musical that truly expresses love and living life to the fullest.

I must agree that lately I have fallen for RENT! It's just wonderful! All the songs are truly related to everyday life! And seeing the play and movie really make you think. And I can't tell anyone how much I LOVE La Vie Boheme!!! It just makes you want to get up and dance! But of course i'm also in love with "Season's of Love." One of the best songs ever!

That is one thing I love about it. The songs, music, issues, etc. Whenever I'm sad/depressed/angry/just in need of comforting I turn towards this movie because of it all. It reminds me at times that there are people out there who have it a heck of a lot harder than I do and that I should be thankful that my parents, siblings and family in general all love me and that I do have a place to go etc. etc.

The various themes in Rent make me more emotional than any other movie or musical that I’ve ever listened to or seen. I mean, no one can beat the real messages that the show teaches us about. Life, love, forgetting regret [which holds down a lot of us]. And especially how to not let death get us down, and how to just keep on going!
