Okay, I have not read this book myself, but have heard A LOT about it and am wondering if it would be worth my money to buy it. What does everyone think?

Personally I'm leaning towards buying it just to see what all the controvery is about... ~lol~:duck:

Picked this little bugger up from Borders yesterday...almost done today...

::Wipes sweat from brow::

All I have to say is, it's about bloody time somebody portrayed an E/C love scene in an actual book rather than internet phanphiction. I'm not done yet, but so far, I am completely engrossed. I won't vote yet on your poll, Manda, but unless the writing style and plot do a complete 180, I think I'll be marking the "Love it!" line.

If you liked Phantom, you will almost definitely like Progeny. Though Kay's work isn't credited, there are many, many references to happenings in Phantom (e.g, Daroga & Persia, a son, Erik "dying", Erik's childhood, etc). I highly recommend it...though it isn't as cheap as, say, Phantom of Manhattan, it's about a hundred times better, and therefore worth every cent.

I'll deffinitely check it out sometime! It sounds great, but what exactly is the plot?

Finished it tonight...I had to go watch a feel-good flick with a friend when I finished. "Shall We Dance," to be exact. Then I came back and watched the sexy Gerry scenes of The Jury...all so I could make myself feel less sadened by the end of Progeny.

Three words: De. Press. Ing. But not BAD depressing; just...depressing. And a word to the wise: DO NOT read this story if you're a big Raoul sympathizer. Just...don't. But as I am not, I didn't mind the slightly OOC-ness for Raoul. ;)

What is it about, Wandering Angel? ...It's sort of surprising, but the plot makes more sense if you've actually read Kay's Phantom. The two stories are sort of intertwined...or at least Progeny picks up where Phantom left off. It's a continuation, but not like Phantom of Manhattan...this one is actually sort of plausible.

So, does it have the scene in Phantom where Christine comes back to him?? Because I would LOVE to read what happened then!!

And, just wondering, what does OC mean? I've seen people put it in fanfiction summaries. I never really understood it . . . :: feels a bit stupid ::

Yes, there's a "Christine returns to Erik" scene in Progeny... That part isn't bad, but it's definitely not my favorite. ::Cough E/C LOVE SCENE cough::

OOC means "Out of Character." Progeny!Raoul doesn't really match up with most other Raoul's at the end... I sort of wish Meadows had kept him a bit more in character, but I didn't really mind. The book was, in my humble opinion, worth the money I spent on it. Definitely not my favorite version (Kay's Phantom, followed by POTO 2004 and ALW Phantom), but probably in my top five. Then again, I'm not a definied canon-lover, either. Leroux didn't make my top five. ::Blushes and looks away::

Ah, you see, I can't really appreciate an E/C story if it doesn't respect the integrity of Raoul's character. I think that Susan Kay's and Patrick Wilson's Raouls are my favorites. I can't decide between them.

What is the rating of the book? Liek is it sexual or violent or what exactly? I'm just wondering..

Eh, considering my taste in what is deemed "sexual and violent" has been so watered down from my constant phic-browsing, you might not want to trust me on this, but... It really isn't that bad. I mean, the sex isn't physically graphic but more emotional, and the violence is Erik killing a few thieves and such. Nothing too horrible.

Ok thanks KT, I'll check out the library today cause I'm almost done Susan Kay's Phantom *tear*

::Bows down before the mightiness of Kay's Phantom:: NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING can beat that book. It is the goddess of Phantom literature, I tell you. :D I'm thinking about spending my $15 Barnes & Noble gift card on the book Journey of the Mask... ::Shrugs:: I'm going on a Phantom phiction spree. ;)

::Clears throat loudly:: I went to a Gerry Butler Tart Convention in Philly in June...and one of the guests there was Paula (username- Tenebrae) who bought a bunch of POTO props on Ebay. She brought her lovely treasures with her... The shoes from the swordfight scene, the gloves from MOTN, the cape from the Phantom theme song (which she let me wear!!! :D Hence, the picture), and the actual mask. As in, the mask used during the movie. I have a bunch of pictures and everything... But I like that one, so I made it into a sig.

There's my story.

Wow, that is so cool!! Canada doesn't have any cool conventions like that ::looks sad::

I agree, Canada needs conventions! I remember seeing the POTO movie props on eBay, and was astounded as to how much $$ they were selling for.

After reading this post, I just ordered Progeny as well as Phantasy (the sequel to Progeny, apparently). I ordered Journey of the Mask as well, despite some less-than-favourable reviews. Now I'm all excited for them to get here lol

Progeny was a really good book. It totally through me for a loop the last three chapters, and I wasn't expecting that kind of ending. It's defentally worth the money though! And just a for warning...this book will make you cry at some point, but I loved it anyway! Hope you all enjoy!

 Eh, I've read Progeny, and at first i hated it, then i loved it, and now...well I'm okay with it. I didn't really like it at first because of how sad it was, the ending still really breaks my heart, poor Erik. But you know, Christine was just soo weepy and tortured. I got tired of her bursting into tears all the time and acting like she was the victim, when it's always been about Erik. I didn't really care for Christian's character either, nor Madeline(she was kind of pointless to me). I guess i'm most interested in the E/C relationship more than anything else. But i swear sometimes when i read it every now and then that i can hear a violin or piano from a soap opera playing in the background!

MissDay I totally agree with you about the characters and the book being a soap opera! LoL! Christian's character was alright, but Madeline was kinda pointless...the end with her and Raoul is just completely weird!!! I can't believe she ended the book that way! And Christine was always ALWAYS crying! I could understand at times, but there was a little bit too much! I love Christine and Erik books too! I just wish there were more of them. That's why so far "Journey of the Mask" is my favorite!:D

I haven't read this book. I thought about reading it but everyone told me not to. I dunno

With the exception of Christine bursting into bitter tears every other page and Raoul being a bully and a tyrant, the book was pretty good. Meadow's portrayal of Erik was excellent, a good blend of Webber and Leroux. He, ironically enough, seems to be the sanest person in the book. Go figure!
The son Christian also got on my nerves eventually. I wouldn't say don't read it. In fact if you are an E/C shipper you'll probably love it and hate it by turns like I did. It is worth reading but beware of the melodrama! :(:rolleyes:
