View Full Version : Songs You Love...

What are some songs you truly adore? Ones that may have changed your total outlook on life?
I have quite a few, and some are even from Phantom of the Opera, in a philosophical kind of way. :duck:
However, the song I most identify with is hide's 'Misery'. To me, it's uplifting, yet kind of sad at the same time. And that's just the actual feel from listening to it, without knowing the lyrics.
Stay free your misery...

I have been influenced by many songs. Rock, Disco and even classical. The 1812 Overture makes me get major goosebumps. I have often tried to choose an all time favourite song but failed miserably because my music tastes change with my moods. But a few songs will alway be in my top 10, The Beatles - Penny Lane, The Bee Gee's - Saturday Night Fever, Rush - Freewill. Plus many more...

I don't particularly have a song or songs which have changed me. I think. Although I do have a theme song, which is Manamana by Animal and the Muppets.
I also love Into the Fire, from the musical The Scarlet Pimpernel. It's a great song.
And I love the song Ocean Soul by Nightwish.

I adore the entire Jekyll and Hyde score - it encompasses each of every emotion and it is just *squee* - I especially love "I Need To Know", "Transformation" and "Confrontation"

I love this song, "Softly Whispering I love You". It's so beautiful. I also love "May It Be" which Enya sings at the end of The fellowship of the ring, and "In Dreams" is one of my favourite songs ever.
I love this Seekers song called "Morningtown" because it holds so many memories for me and I've known it all my life. "The Bush Girl" is another one by then that moves me deeply.
I have many songs that have wonderful effects on me. I love music!
"Ave Maria" and "panis angelicus" are two other songs I just love.

I haven't really been changed by song, but I know that Sarah Brightman made me want to learn to sing. All her songs are incredible.
I also love "My Immortal" by Evanescence. I cry every time I listen to that song, because I lost someone a while ago, and the song reminds me of that person.
I can't really choose a theme song for me -- there are too many to choose from!

"My Immortal" by Evanescence is one of the best songs ever. It's just so beautiful. beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
Has anyone hears "I Believe My Heart" from Woman In White? if you go
Keedies site (http://www.keedie.com/) you can hear it sung, not by the cast who sing it on the show, but Keedies version. It's a gorgeous, gorgeous song.

I also love "Love Song for a Vampire". It has nothing to do with vampires, strangely, other than being from a Dracula movie. That's where I got my post follower. I can really identify with the song, because I did once have the rarest rose that ever deigned to bloom. Really long story.

Actually, 'Learn to be Lonely' changed me a bit... because it told me that i didn't have to spend my time wondering if HE'S right in front of me. I'm allowed to live without worrying if i'm less of a person without a boyfriend. For the first time, I was okay with not having a BF for reasons that weren't about a bad break up.

My song is Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson. It describes me perfectly. I feel like no one listens to me and I'm trapped in this cage and I've lost the key. And all I have to do is "Breakaway".:)

Let's see:
Several songs from PotO
"If You're Not The One" by Daniel Bedingfield
"Break Away" by Kelly Clarkson
"This Is How A Heart Breaks" by Rob Thomas
"Somebody Told Me" by The Killers
"Take Me Home" by Phil Collins
The last one that's a favorite of mine (though I haven't actually heard it in a while) is one that's a bit of an odd selection. It's titled "Indian Love Call" from the 1936 movie Rose Marie, a duet performed by Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. Awwww, they're so sweet together... :D Plus it's just so romantic, despite the absolutely sticky-sweet sappiness of the words and the melody.

I have dearly loved music throughout my life and have so many favorites because, well, I'm more than a half-century old.
My most recent "discovery" is "Lejla" (or "Leila") sung by Hajrudin Varesanovic, "the Nightingale of Sarajevo". It sent chills over me, even though I didn't have a translation of the lyrics at that time. A lady kindly provided me with that information. It won third place at Eurovision 2006, and I question this: What songs could be more beautiful and riveting as this one. Combined with the video, it's a magnificent, amazing experience, especially in a fan-fashioned video at a "Robin of Sherwood" fansite. Ask me about it if you want a major thrill--even if you aren't an ROS fan. I admit that it brought me to tears. I WILL have CDs by this angel-voiced man!
Other songs that have touched me deeply are:
"Time in a Bottle" by Jim Croce
"Dust in the Wind" by Kansas
"Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult
"Summertime" by Janis Joplin
"We Didn't Start the Fire" by Billy Joel
"I'll Be Seeing You" (the old WWII song)
"I Love You Truly" (my parents' wedding song)
Oh, there are far too many to list.
I especially love the old ballads, folktunes and traditional melodies of many countries. I've been a "songcatcher" for fortysome years. Now that I have my bowed psaltery, I can let others hear these melodies. Now, if I could become brave enough to sing, that would be far better.
SOUNDTRACKS: I also have to say that the music of John Williams is amazing, as are the composers Miklos Rozsa, Maurice Jarre, James Horner, Bernard Herrmann, Max Steiner and other often-overlooked musical magicians who have added so much to films but often receive little or no attention.
Remember: "The trouble with reality is there's no background music." LOL!
Now, I shall depart, having taken far too much of your time. (I love these forums! This is the best site I've discovered thus far!)

A song that mosts influences me or has influenced me. Well that depends on my mood generally when I'm depressed I'll go for Skillet, When I'm happy everything goes, but there is one song that will forever stick with me. It's one that my mom always use to sing to me to either put me to sleep or just because I wanted to hear her sing. The song is a little religous but I love it anyway. The title is "Here I am Lord" by Dan Schutte.

I love lots of songs but not all of them have really touched or influenced me. Here's a brief list...
The Sharpest Lives, Cancer and This Is How I Disappear, by MCR.
Walk This Way and Dude, Looks Like A Lady, by Aerosmith.
Hysteria, Supermassive Black Hole and Plug In Baby, by Muse.
Californication, by Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Sugar We're Goin Down, Dance Dance and I Don't Care, by Fall Out Boy.
The Pretender, by Foo Fighters.
When You Were Young, Somebody Told Me, Mr Brightside and Read My Mind, by The Killers.
Okay, so it wasn't brief. ;) In terms of songs that really affected me, I can only think of The Ice Is Getting Thinner, by Death Cab For Cutie. I was trying to work out how not to break up with a boy, if you know what I mean, and it kinda made me realise that maybe breaking up really would be better. And...yeah.

Any song of Josh Groban's
Frank Senatra and Brittany Spears was my idol as a kid, but you know things have changed.
I loved all the boy bands of the 90s and I loved the Company from the Philippines. I can't think of any of the songs at the moment and they are mostly in Tagalog, soo it would be hard to interpret the words since I don't speak much :(

I know The Phantom of the Opera by John Cudia was one of the songs thta really changed me. Maybe to some (*cough*most*cough*) of you John Cudia wasn't the best but he was my first Phantom! And when I heard him sing the song that I longed to hear since I was 6 (whether I knew it or not ) it really changed the way I looked at the world of arts... It made me adore opera, it made me love The Phantom of the Opera, it made me listen to Susan Boyle..! It made MELT with a new feeling inside of me! Even now I still feel like fainting and disappearing into the fantasies of that one song... that one voice... that one face...
Emmy Rossum's [I]Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again was also another song that I simply adore that even made me discover a new talent (not that I am trying to brag)! I never EVER took singing lessons before and I have onyl taken singing seriously for two months (3 starting next week) and only just now got myself lessons that don't even start till next week yet..! When I started practising that song along with her version of Think of Me my mother told me I was good for a person whom never took lessons, 2 peope I don't know told me I was pretty good, my friends said the same! I realy think i discovered a talent but not only that! I read about her, she only made my hopes higher for NYC and now I wish to move there instead of fearing the day I do! She also got me started in piano after first hearing Think of Me. Heck, I think she gave me a second jump-start on my musical life and has awaken my musical side once more! What a joy!
And I think thats it on the topic of "songs I adore that changed my life".

Recently, Sierra Boggess's version of Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again. Absolutely gorgeous. But I really enjoy Time To Say Goodbye with Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli. It definitely got me into classical music!!
