Okay, I was in Paris this Ascension and I visited the opera Garnier, magnificient building, one of the msot beautiful buildings I've ever seen.

But anyway, I took some pictures, and I was wondering if any of you guys was interested to see them. Some are really good, and some are a bit dark.

Any interest?

Please post them lol, because I'd like to see them as well. The only pictures I've ever seen are the ones that you can find on the Internet by themselves. Did you go down to the flooded dungeons? :D

Okay I'll post, But no sadly I did not get to see the dungeons... There were very limited access. There are access to see the auditorium, the grand stair case naturally, and the foyers.

The quartiers of actors, musicians, dancers and singers very blocked, as well as the higher and lower levels of the opera. A shame, otherwise I wouild have broke in to a dressing room and begun to sing angel of music.
Box 5 was locked as well, but there was a window in the door, so I pressed my nose to the glass and looked inside, not sight of Erik unfortunately

But it is so beautiful, it looks more like some from the vatican museum, really pompous in the nice way. Gold and paintings all over the place.

Wow. That place is nice looking... I adore the paintings! The chandelier's brilliant too.

And I would like to see more, if that's all right with you. I could brighten it a little bit too, if you'd like me to.

Those pictures are really good Elizabeth, excellent job on taking them! It's too bad that you couldn't go down to the dungeons of the opera. That would have been a real treat to see and to catch on film.

I know most of the dungeons are flooded from what I saw on the promotional material that came with the DVD.

Yeah, there's a lake (complete with fish) underneath. Wish I could go and see that place - but I doubt I will, or at least not for years. From what I've seen from your photos, Liz, and from the footage on the DVD, it's a spectacular place. I like what Emmy said in one of the interviews...she'd joked to the ballet mistress in the Opera Garnier and said that surely ther'd be lots of ghosts; to which the ballet mistress replied, "oh no, souls"...

It is a very spectcular place, and it's so beautiful, one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen, yeah, it could be great if you would brighten them Sadaka, just give the adress I shall send them to..

Dammit you all talk about the dvd, but it dosn't get released in Denmark until june the 21'th (grrr) but then it will be a 3-disc version luckily.

Those are wonderful! I love them! I was just there a week before you I think. The auditorium was closed for Rehersal and I was mad but I saw Box 5 too! Your pictures are wonderful! I love them, maybe I'll put up mine sometime too!

My Mom & Dad went to Paris with the DreamGirls Tour and they met people and got to go down and see the lake! I'm so insanely jelous of them beacuse they don't allow anyone down below without somebody who works there with them.

Hey guys... I'd perhaps have the pictures from the foyer in a more bright version soon....

Until then, are there any reader's of the fanfiction demons here? If there is would you like to see photo's from Sainte Chapelle? I took some there as well, the most beautiful church I visited ever I think? It's an offer, no pressure...

Oh my gosh!! I can't believe I never noticed them before.. they are AMAZING Elizabeth!!! i can't believe you have actually gone to the REAL opear Garnier!! You can really see the way Leroux based it on it, can't you?? and the chandelier one looks EXACTLY like the movie. That is so awesomely amazing.. ahh... I wanna go there so bad! It must almost have been like stepping onto the set of Phantom.. or better still.. right into the story.. any strange happenings go on while you were there? ;) :D
You are so lucky and thanks SO much for the photos!

Yes cinty it was completely fantasitc to see it, and the entire building is just... Like WOW! Can't describe it better than that.

Okay since nobody answered if they wanted to see photo's from Sainte Chapelle I'll just post em anyhow.

Those of you who haev read the amazing fanfic called demons, know what happens to the glass in that one. The thought itself is horrible.

Okay but let me just make this clear. THESE PHOTO'S ARE NOT OF THE L'OPERA GARNIER...

lower level of the chapel:

more windows:

The altar:

and some more windows:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/Wild-roses/Sainte%20Chapelle/SainteChapelle7.jpg

I'm telling you, when you're standing in the chapel, and the sun fall through all the windows, you almost stop breathing, that is how beautiful it is,

Wow, Elizabeth, those are beautiful. A stupid question, you're probably going to say "DUH!", but is that where they based Phantom? I'm not sure. Great photos, though! :)

Yup that was the building that inspired Gaston Leroux for his story. Amazing one at that. If you got any other questions then just ask, and I'll be happy to answer you.

Thanks, Elizabeth. *blushes* I figured that. I love Phantom, but I've never read the book or anything, so I don't really know everything about it. I figured that, though, when you had the main staricase and chandelier photos. Were there any of the auditorium? And if not, do you have any?

Night feather
11-04-2005, 10:09 PM
NO worries, it was first after the musical movie I got really into it as well. But no actually, I've realised that I never really got to take any pictures of the auditorium itself, only the cieling. ::smacks forehead:: jesus what an idioit I am

Yeah a gorgeous building... Absolutely.... A bit of a well.... hmm... dosn't know the english word for that.... but not exactly elegant on the outside, but on the inside, boy... it's breathtaking...

Nope I didn't take any pictures of box five, generally it looked just like the other boxes... Walls of red velvet like material and chairs with the same material on seat and back as the walls. red and gold curtains... and well... I don't really know to despribe it.

I'm not certain how I could have missed this thread! OMG! I am so amazed by the pictures--all of them! I hope that my post gets this back to the top of page 1, where it deserves to be! I hope you get much more feedback because the photos of ALL the sites are remarkable. In fact, it would be nice if, for example, the foyer one was used in the opening post of that thread. It's not at all the way I visualized it; it's far more amazing and intimidating!

You should suggest it to the creator of that thread, as well as show your pictures to those who set up other threads. It's really neat to see some of the "landscape" our characters are walking through. Hmmm... That could be an interesting thread, couldn't it? Instead of guessing what something looks like, people could post pictures they took or images found on the Net or elsewhere. Wouldn't it be nice to know what these places really look like instead of supposing/guessing/imagining?

You did a remarkable job taking photographs. I love the various angles you used. Those pictures make it feel/look monumental due to the various perspectives. EXCELLENT!
