Idina Menzel has recorded a pop version of "Defying Gravity" which is available in iTunes! I just downloaded it, and I really like it!

You can hear it here:

I wonder how they managed the part that goes

"And nobody in all of Oz
No wizard that there is or was
Is ever gonna bring me down!"

It's gonna be weird issuing mainstream a pop song that talks about Oz.

It doesn't have that part. It changes the end a little so it skips over that part, and it ends on "you won't bring me down". It's hard to explain, but it's makes sense as a mainstream pop song the way it's arranged.

I'm listening to it as I type. I like it, actually. Though, it does take a little getting used to.

Usually, I really dislike remixes of songs, since there's nothing like originals, but I really did like this. I've heard her sing an alterd version before, but nothing like this.

Question: Wasn't this song pop to begin with? Can you make pop poppier?

I guess I was right....

Anyway, I really don't like this version of the song. I think it takes away from the lyrics and the beauty of the song. But that's just my opinion.

Doesn't Kerry Ellis also have a remix?

They do talk a lot of the lyrics, but ehh it's not all that, but then again it's not unbearable. I just wonder why and who thought of the remix. I must say that just because it's Menzel, it makes it better.

I'm a bit biased, I wont even lie because it is Idina Menzel though I will admitedly say, there are things of hers I dont like...just not alot. But anyways, I was shocked at first too when the pop version came out but, Idina's voice to me makes it worth while. It takes getting used to. Now, the cd she came out with that had five different DJ remixes, that one takes a WHOLE lot of getting used to. Though for a club setting, it would definitely make me dance. They just get pretty redundant if you listen to that cd all the way through because they are so similar.

But in all, its brought her alot of business and its got Wicked even more recognition in settings that maybe it wouldn't even have reached so I think it was a good thing to promote it in that way.
