I've read the Da vinci code and I must say I didn't think it was as good as everybody say it is.
It was not very greatly written, the characters were kindda boring, and the story is just to far out.
It's like he's just found two things people love to read about feminisme and the church, and then just mixed it together to this book.
I think it was quite bad, what do you think?

I've read two of Dan Brown's books: Da Vinci Code, and Angels And Demons. With both of them, I thought that at least half of the book could be chucked out. I got really bored, but there were good bits. First half of DaVinci and second half of A&D were fine, but the rest went on and on about nothing much. Also, I'm not religious so all the talk about Jesus was tedious and meant nothing to me. I think Dan Brown has the potential to be a good writer, but I think he needs to think abou the material he puts into his novels.
For any who wish to know: Da Vinci Code is being turned into a film. Sir Ian McKellen is down as Sir Leigh Teabing.

I haven't read it, but my friend tells me it's really good (then again, she's into books that are really dry and mostly boring). I'm going to try it, just because I've heard mixed reviews, and I didn't know it was going to be made into a movie. I like to read the book before I go see a movie. (Which accounts for most of my school reading log)

I just bought it from a local sued bookstore, as well as Angels & Demons. I won't get a chance to read it until I finish reading the stuff for my summer homework, but once I'm done reading that, I can dive into Dan Brown's books. I've heard mixed reviews too, although the majority were good ones.
It's being made into a movie? Hey, if Ian McKellan's in it, I'm there!

wow just watched the trailer for said book turned into movie....
And I must say.... I think it will be a far, far better movie than book. Hey if there are any actors who can blow some life into those boring flat characters it's those.... I think it will be a mindblowing action/detective like movie, and I'm actually lookig forward to it...

I started to read it and got bored with it. It's really overrated, but then again, most of the best sellers tend to be for some reason. O__o;
I saw a few scenes from the movie too. I'll probably end up seeing it, since it looked more interesting than the book is.

I still have yet to read it! I really want to, though, partly to see what all the hype is about, and partly because I'm interested in the whole historical aspect of religion. I also think it's quite an interesting theory about the holy grail, and how da Vinci supposedly put hidden clues in his paintings. I found a copy in my school library today, so I'll check it out as soon as I can. I shall then post my opinions after I've read it. :)

I confess to preferring Angels & Demons. *hides* It just seemed better written, and more attention capturing than the Da Vinci Code. Saying that, I also read it first, so there's that element, too.
I'm not a religious sort, either, Em, and so didn't enjoy a lot of the talk about that, but I think it was the end of it that drew me in, as opposed to the beginning. It was tough for me to really grasp at first, and I almost hated it. But after a while, I really got into it, and the villain really had me guessing. I suspected Sophie for a while...
Film wise..heh, I could chat for ages on this...I'm disappointed with the choice of Tom Hanks for Langdon. Okay, so Langdon's age is never specified, but he comes across as young-ish, a few years qualified from uni, and just gotten into lecturing...at a guess, I'd say he's probably early 30s. Tom Hanks is in his early 50s. Yes, he's a great actor, I don't dispute that, but I do think it was the wrong choice for the principal character.
...and now I'm gonna shut up! XD

I loved this book. Considering I believe in the divine feminine, I had to read it. lol.

The book is definitely overrated. I thought the writing was mediocre through most of it, and the storyline did a lot of loops. Ya wanna see the good kind of loops? Read Ted Dekker. Even if you're not into religion, he's a mindblowing author. ^_^ Anyways, back to the DaVinci Code.
I found it to be ridiculously focused on that Fache guy. He's unlikable, stereotypical, and not very well described. Sophie is an interesting character, if only a Mary Sue kinda girl. I mean, really... all she does is keep the plot moving. Everything she says, does, and remembers ties in way too neatly with the story.
But, I must be off. ^_^ Time for a few days at my (maybe) bf's house! 'Twas his birthday yesterday, and me, him, and his mother are gonna go see a movie today. ^_^

A lot of people fuss and fight over this book, but I really want to read it for myself and find out what the fuss is. I wish people could take literature as it is and nothing more.

I LOVED this book. I kinda like to read about other belief systems, weird or not, just to see what they think. And the whole take on the Holy Grail was astounding. I found this to be quite a page turner and really enjoyed it. I also liked the movie, it was the best they could do I think.
That's just my opinion..... ^_^

I actually really enjoyed the Da Vinci Code. True, poor Mr. Brown desperately needs a decent editor, and I am not a great fan of his writing style, but I thought that he was a great story teller.
I picked up this book with the intention of finding an entertaining summer/beach read, and that is exactly what it was. It reminded me of an Indiana Jones type adventure, lots of clues to solve and ancient relics to find, as well as a great conspiracy thrown in for good measure.
The movie was really a bore. It dragged, which the book did not. I read the whole thing in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Don't take it too seriously, and come at it as a form of sheer entertainment, and I think you will like this book.

Ahhh, Da Vinci Code. Yes, we used to have a secret cult for this book in my math class. Apparently, I was the only one who kept the secret for two years, so now I'm getting revenge by telling people openly about it. (XD But it was so much fun to deny it. "Cuuuult? We have no... cult..." It was run by my math teacher.
When the book came out, she made us all go out and buy it. We were her favorite class, so it was only us. We had to read the entire book by June (easy). We made shirts with symbols on the shoulder, and with our names written backwards on the back of the shirts. Underneath our names, we had what number of the Fibonacci sequence we were (I requested 13, and everyone looked at me like I was Satan). Then June... 14th I think... we went out to the field behind my school (that no longer exists), and brought a huuuuuge picnic. We sat on blankets and discussed philosophy, math, the book, math, and our opinions. It was beautiful.
The next year, what was left of the class gathered in the classroom, and we talked about our opinions of the book since that day, and how certain things have effected us. We got into religious discussion, since the book relates to religion so much. Then we moved onto politics, and a little about sex. At the end of the meeting, my class president stood up and said, "There are three topics that kill a party: religion, politics, and sex. We've just discussed all three like civilized people. I think that's commendable."
My Da Vinci Code book is my yearbook for that math class. It was amazing. The book has such special meaning for me now.

When I hear that much hoopla for a book that I know covers a lot of previously covered material, I go into BEWARE mode. I didn't read the book till a friend lent it to me, and I was glad I hadn't spent money for it. My assumption was right: rehashing old material with some really offbeat stuff added for good measure.
I have grave doubts I'll want to see the film, as I am not a Tom Hanks fan. I liked him earlier in his career, before he decided he was an ACTOR. Perhaps I can brave it at least once.
Again, when I hear this sort of furor over a novel or film, I always think: "Blair Witch". LOL!

In my opinion Dan Brown is VERY fictitious. If he wanted to prove something out of this book, he would have done more research. Mind you, my friend who's 18 knows more things about what might one learn in the book.
He (my friend) even said that Dan Brown just wrote the book to gain money and fame.
All the same, the book had a nice plot, but it's still fictitious.
I haven't read the book, but seen the film...ick! I get the idea of the book now....
I know it's fiction, but he dragged up the old Arian Heresy from the post-Constatine days from what I can tell, and just made it worse. (I.e., the dispute Jesus was human only and God's 'adopted' son, not human and divine at the same time.)
The sad thing is, people actually beleived Brown's story to be true, i.e. Brown's conspiracy theory that the Church was covering up that Christ was only human. Adding the affair about Mary Magdalene just made it worse! (But that heresy has been going around for a long time too.)
Sorry to go all relgious on you, but Brown brought it up! Brown is kinda playing with fire in the Da Vinci Code in my opinion--St. John constantly warned in his epistles (read your Bible), that there would be many antichrists in history before the major Antichrist at the end of time, and the sure way you could recognize them was if they denied Jesus' humanity or divinity, preferring one over the other. Brown has just opened a real can of worms here ....
