What is your favourite scene in the movie?
Mine is at the beginning, where Christine is on the stage and singing 'Think of me' when the opera house come's alive, that's where I start crying and then I don't stop until the last credit has gone up, infact that's a lie in a way because the first time I saw it I was still cying about an hour later. :(
Where the phantom takes Christine down below the opera house is an amazing scene aswell. Why the heck am I trying to choose a favourite scene? I give in - they are all amazing.
Applaudes..

One of my favorite scenes is when Christine is singing to herself in the Daae Graveyard as she arrives at her father's tomb. Phantom is singing to her, tricking her into believing he is the spirit of her father singing to her. :)

I have many favourite scenes as one must when they like a certain film to the point of obsesssion ;)
(1) In the auction when the chandelier (Lot 666 heh) goes up and everything changes from black&white to vibrant colour. It's beautiful and stunning, and the music is amazing!
(2) When the Phantom is leading Christine down to his home underneath the Opera House. Amazing!
(3) Masquerade - I love it. Swirling colours amidst the gold of the hall, brilliant moves and of course, brilliant music - I like the beat of the drums & cymbals.

I'd have to agree with OG on the first one - even more amazing is the way everything sort of reverses, going from run down to the full glory of the place. It's great.

Id have to agree with Em/OG on the beginning scenes with the chandelier. I still have vivid memories of when I was first watching the movie, my eyes glued to the big screen as the final moments before the rejuvenation occurred. Perhaps we can shed a little illumination, to scare away the ghost of operas past. (or something like that, I know it isnt exact!) Then all of a sudden the chandelier is brought to color
it sent pure shivers up my spine.

Ah the chandelier scene is probably my favorite. I was just simply enthralled by it. The first time I watched it, like you said Steve, my eyes were glued to the screen. It's just amazing with the peircingly loud beat of the song and the wonderful transformation. Ahh...
I also adore the scene where the opera first allures Christine into his "underground lair". Though I thought the horse was a bit much. :P
The Phantom

Without any explaining the white worse was a bit... just there when they showed it. Christine seemed scared and rocking back and forth when she was riding in like Lady Gidiva (I probably spelled that wrong) but with actual clothes on. "Order your fine horses now." The white horses were in the movie but not any of the stage productions, as I learned.

"Perhaps we can frighten away the ghost of so many years ago with a little illumination" is the line used in the film :)
Originally posted by The PhantomThe white horses were in the movie but not any of the stage productions, as I learned.
Grey, not white :D Yes, the horses appear in the film. One horse in particular is mentioned in the book; Caesar, the opera companys best grey stallion, is stolen by Phantom. He then carries Christine when Phantom leads her down into his lair, as shown in the film adaption.
Another favourite scene is Point Of No Return - the music is brilliant! Very moving when Phantom does his "say you love me" solo at the end which Christine spoils by taking of his mask...

Ah, thank you, OG! I was going down the list thinking to myself, 'How can no one say PONR? WHERE ARE THE PONR PHANS ON HERE?!?!'
'Point of No Return' just...it...I... ::shudders:: It leaves me breathless everytime I watch it (which is often, being I downloaded it. Hey, I'm going through Phantom withdrawl here, okay??) It's truly a masterpiece of film directing, what with the suggestive lyrics and ingenious use of color symbolism. ...Bloody brilliant, bloody brilliant...
Of course, the Christine/Erik kissing scene is hard to beat...I burst out crying at the exact same point every time: right when she slips the ring on her finger and...and... ::starts to bawl::

I always find it so hard to choose! I think that the whole movie is just so marvellous. But I would have to say that my favourite scene/s goes from the mirror to the end of Music of the Night. I also love Point of No Return and... oh what the heck!! I love it all!

Point of No Return is really great in itself. You can feel the tension building up and the suspense just dripping from the scene as Christine and Phantom start pouring themselves to each other. I truly think that Christine was falling back in love with Phantom; she was in love with both lovers light and dark.
Meh, I cant remember specific details sometimes, like the gray horses.

I have found another love...
Wandering Child!
I mean, I always liked that song, but all of the sudden, it's the only thing I listen to on my CD! Well, not the only thing, but I think it takes up the majority of my listening time (which is a vast, vast amount...) I don't know...that song just seems so haunting, so enigmatic. Beautifully chilling. And don't get me started on that gorgeous harmony from Gerry and Emmy...and the lyrics...and...
::Swoons::
But I must say, it has not quite reached the level of PONR...I mean, that's virtually impossible to beat.

Wandering Child is also fantastic, in both the film and the staged - I just love it in stage show when Erik is chasing Raoul around with his skull staff! :D

Wandering Child is a really awesome song.. it's so beautiful "Wandering Child, so lost, so helpless, yearning for my guidance" "Angel oh speak, what endless longings, echo in this whisper". It just proves how much she needs him. I love Raouls' part in it on the original cast recrording. awesome! angel of Music is one of my favourite songs so it's cool to go back to it.

Man, it is so hard to choose just one, or even 5! So here are my top 10 scenes in chronological order:
1) Overture
2) Think of Me
3) Mirror / POTO
4) MOTN
5) Notes / Prima Donna
6) All I Ask of You / Reprise
7) Masquerade / Why So Silent
8) WYWSHA / Wandering Child
9) Point of No Return
10) Final Lair Scene
Honorable Mention: Madame Giry's Tale (freak fair scene)
Forgotten Angel

Oh, gids, I think I'm in love with the whole thing. But my top 3 I guess would have to be:
-The raising of the chandelier. That was beyond breathtaking. PotO should've won the Oscar for best cinematography just for that scene. I mean, geez... WOW.
-Masquerade. Simply stunning!
-Point of No Return. You gotta love it.
-Meg coming down to the Phantom's lair and taking his mask. I just thought that was really good, and unexpected. And it was kinda sweet too.
-The end when the Phantom left the rose on Christine's grave, and then Raoul came with the music box and put it there too. That scene got met hthinking about... stuff that I don't really know how to put into words.
Okay, I lied. Top 5.

Phantom Overture
Well, it's the essence of the Phantom Musical really, isn't it? The deafening organ blaring it's tune, the chandelier and the Opera House... I thought they did such a great job of it in the film, with the dust of age blowing away and everything becoming new again. And it was a great way to introduce Christine and Meg too...
Point of No Return
Well, they did a great job of it, of course. I love the song just because it's so sensual and passionate, and Emmy and Gerard did a good job of it too. "The bridge is crossed, so stand and watch it burn"... I'm SO in love with that line :D
Down Once More
I thought the whole confrontation between Christine, Raoul and the Phantom was very well-handled and powerful. I loved how they sung at and to each other like an out-of-control argument, and didn't just sing. I thought Raoul was so passionate and despairing in that scene, perfectly done. I just wanted to kiss him... *shifty eyes*

I love 'Music of the Night'. Gerard puts a lot of emotion in it, and it sounds so beautiful. 'Point of No Return' has got to be my second favorite. For some reason, I always end up humming 'Masquerade' though.

Lol I've watched Phantom of the Opera today twice and I'd have to say that one of my favorite scenes is Point of No Return as well. I love the way that Christine falls back madly in love with Phantom at the last moment, as he sings to her and traps her in his seductive "spell". The expressions portrayed on her face and body seemed too real to make it look like she was playing along to trap her. She was in love.

Made a mistake in my last post: in the film Christine is shown riding a black horse, not a grey. Could have sworn it was a grey, but never mind. In the book (by Gaston Leroux) Christine is definataly carried by Caeser, the grey stallion.
Point of No Return has now overtaken the others (now that I own the DVD and watch it regularily) in being my favourite. The music is awesome, Gerry is irrisistably sexy, the flames and the colours are brilliant, and the only thing that spoils it is Emmy's sleeves. Why is it that young women, when acting in films where their character is from older periods of time and therefore the clothing is different, why, why can they never keep the shoulders of their dresses on? Keira Knightley in POTC, now Emmy Rossum in POTO...both of them, they're sleeves fall off and they push them back, only to slide off again. It's annoying! :D

I love many scenes in this movie but I will only name a few. The first one is when Christine is singing " Think of Me" at the rehersal and than it transforms beautifully into that nights performance. I also LOVE when the Phantom sings " Music of the Night" to Christine. It is very romantic and his voice is breath taking. The last scene would have to be " Masquerade" because it is just spectacular. It is very hard to choose because I love the entire movie to death. Every song and detail is done wonderfully. I just can't get enough! LOL

I loved the whole movie, but my three favorite scenes were:
The first Angel of Music scene, it's where you really see Meg's concern for Christine.
The PONR scene.... it leaves me breathless. It's so passionate and dangerous, with a certain level of truth and betrayal at the same time.
I also love the sword fight at the graveyard. It's the first time you see any real confrontation between Raoul and Erik (I don't count the Why So Silent part where he runs up, Erik jumps and Raoul finds himself in a room by himself), and it's probably a huge internal conflict for Christine too.
I love those scenes. Aww, who am I kidding, I love the whole movie.

I cant decide which scene is my absolute favorite, but here are some i really like:
1) Hannibal scene
2)Think Of Me (Christine)
3) MOTN
4)Apollo's Lyre scene (after AIAOY) when Phantom is singing
5)PONR
6)Prima Donna
7)Notes
8) Il Muto
9) The 2 scenes (The one down in Erik's lair, and then the one after that, with old Raoul)
I know thats like the whole thing, but, what can i say?? I like it!:D

My favorite scene is Past the Point of No Return. I swear I could feel the energy that Gerry and Emmy had put into this scene. I, also because of this movie, have become a fan of Gerry for particular reasons. I thought that the singing.
I liked how the song matured as the scene became more intimate.

All right, I've finally narrowed it down to a top 5 list.
1) Overture. Quite possibly the best 4-5 minutes of any film of 2004.
2) PONR. Thanks to the film, this is now my favorite POTO song. That spot used to belong to:
3) MOTN. Such a lovely, beautifully shot and performed scene.
4) Final Lair. Absolutely awesome, though quite different from what I had pictured the scene to look like.
5) Notes/Prima Donna. Hilarious, well-shot, and well-performed.
Honorable Mention: The Mirror/POTO. I didn't like the way it was shot, but it was definitely a feast for the eyes and ears.

My favorite scenes are Christine and Raoul singing "All I Ask of You", when the Phantom leads Christine down to his lair for the first time, and the opening black and white scene...the overture music is haunting. A more fun, but cheesy moment, is the sword fight scene between Raoul and the Phantom.
Oh, and of course another favorite scene is the scene where Christine must choose between the Phantom and Raoul. Very well done scene, actually it's quite possibly my favorite.

Well.....I love it all but the three I love best are "Point of No Return", "Music of the Night", and "Down Once More" I can't choose a favorite from these three. The passion, anger, love, and hurt are so intense it's like a living thing and as a woman all you wish is to be the one these men can't live without. Men, heads up, all women want to be loved this passionately.

Okay, let's do this.
In chronological order:
Overture
Dear LORD. Just...amazing. The effects, the music, the transitions, the entire feel of the movie is summed up right then and there and I absolutely adore it. Heck, it's what got my FATHER converted to Phandom and he loathes musicals. :D
The Phantom of the Opera
All the mystery and seduction in Erik...
Music of the Night
...and the romance. Deep, loving, beautiful, all his feelings for Christine expressed in a song. Well done all around.
Notes
I think I laughed most at this bit and parts of Prima Donna than most of the rest of the movie. ^^ I love seeing the Opera management squirm *laughs maniacally* And then of course there's the bit with Erik playing with his little (voodoo) dolls, that's kind of the icing on the cake.
Why Have You Brought Me Here//Raoul, I've been there
Believe it or not, yes. I like Christine especially in this part. She starts out scared for Raoul, and then really shows how much she's fallen in love with Erik. I think most people miss this bit, but it's simply great directing when Christine sings about Erik's music and walks slowly farther and farther away from Raoul towards Erik, hiding behind the statue of an Angel. Just -- gah. Bloody brilliant.
Wandering Child
Okay, so I know that Erik was trying to trick her, but STILL. I guess I'm just a sucker for anything so obviously E/C.
Point of No Return
Okay, duh. I get chills every single time I watch/listen to it, Erik and Christine's passion shown without restraint. Gorgeous. But then, you all knew that already. ^^
Down Once More/The Final Lair scene
Okay, so I'm usually crying through most of it, but still a freaking fantastic (phantastic, hoho) in every aspect. The actors were simply magnificent. *hugs Erik*
Alright, I'm done ranting. :D

I have a couple of favorite parts....
1.) The overture....or the first scene, as someone said, with the auction and then the chandelier is revealed and everything goes from black and white to color and vibrance....it was lovely and very flashy and the music was enough to make my skin shiver.
2.) Past the Point of No Return...of course....I loved the raw sexuality in it, you could tell that Erik really put all of his lust into it. It was very powerful.
3.) The entire end, because I cried....and cried. 'Christine, I love you..' I just wanted to shout back, "I love you, too!"
4.) The scene with Christine and Raoul before "All I Ask Of You", "Raoul, I've seen him....can I ever forget that sight?" (though it made me want to say, hello? 3rd degree sunburn!) And "Stranger Than You Dreamt It" because the music and lyrics were perfect.
And I love the song that Minnie Driver sang... "Learn to be Lonely" ...It just fit so well. Poor Erik. :(

I have about 4 favorite scenes
1. Music of the Night
Whenever I hear that song when I watch the movie I start to see images of what Christine must be going through at the same time that Gerard is singing. I kept wondering is the Phantom supposed to be sexually interested in Christine?
2. I Remember
I love the end of i remember where the Phantom goes off on Christine for taking the mask away... I kept thinking is that Gerard Butler or Billy Zane?
3. Masquerade
I love that whole scene I wish that the Unites States had masquerades like this. I took this movie over to a friend's house, the second the Phantom appeared she cowered in fear.
4. The swordfight
During this scene I kept thinking how would Johnnny Depp look playing the Phantom in this scene.

My favorite scenes are tied, because they are just so good. The POTO Theme song, when Christine and the Phantom decend into the depths of the of the Phantom's Lair and the other would be Past the Point of No return, during the Don Juan Triumpant Opera. Second would be Masquerade, because of the blood red suit ( did not like this scene in the movie, could have been way better).

1) The changing from black and white to color left me stunned the first time I watched the movie...the chandelier scene was awesome!
2) When the phantom is leading Christine down to his lair. Although I have to confess I laughed at it the first time.
3) Point of No Return. Gourgous, gourgous, gourgous. One of my best friends burned the cd for me and that song skipped. I was sooo upset. I went out and bought my own.
4) In the dungeon when Raoul looks really pitiful and they're all singing together...however I really didn't like the kissing scene. That was just wrong...I felt bad for Raoul. :(

When the chandelier heaves, Joel and his crew just did an amazing job with that one...
Music of the night is just wonderful, and when I first got my epifhany that Gerry is drop dead gorgeous, ad the song is just beautiful.
Point of no return, Emmy and Gerry's voices just sounds awesome together...
And the final lair, it just gets to me every single time, It's heart wrenching.

I would say my all time favorite scene is when they are transitioning from the Little Lotte/The Mirror song and into the The Phantom Of The Opera song...both those parts, I LOVED. Cause man...as creepy as it was to have some strange man stalkin you via mirrors and watchin you secretly...Gerard Butler made stalking so hot and seductive...I mean it was just so mysterious...
Is like it was scary cause yah! he is stalkin her and all that creepy stuff yet at the same time you want her to be with him...you wanna see more and more of them together...
I loved their relationship...Christine/The Phantom relationship...it was just...I wanna say erotic but is not so hot and sexy...is just bewitching cuz she is so innocent while he is so dark and mysterious...the perfect combination

I would have to say, my favorite scene would actually have to be the very last one, the one where Old Raoul is putting the monkey box on Christine's grave. It makes me cry EVERY time I see it (which is a lot), and I think that you can really see the pain in Raoul's eyes.
And then you see the rose and know that the Phantom is in just as much pain as Raoul, if not more. Two men are completely shattered by one woman's death. It was very symbolistic, and the Ring looked great against the stone of the gravestone.

It haas so much passion and fire. It's both beautiful and sexual and in both the play and movie was was done excusitly. It is also my favorite song. Also, the chemistry on screen is great.
My favourite scene is Point of no Return. It is just sooo....wow. It's so sensual and passionate. I actually lose myself until the song ends. I am....obsessed.....
Also, as Maria said, the chemistry is superb. Brava to Gerry Butler and Emmy Rossum. Really, hats off.

The Overture scene is simply amazing. The opening notes of the pipe organ really frightened me!
Then the Hannibal scene. I just simply cannot forget the way Carlotta says "I will not be singing!" and other things such as "Bring my doggie!"...really made me laugh.
My heart simply melted at the cemetery scene, before the fight. The scenery plus "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" and Emmy's voice really made this scene touching...

My favourite scene would be Point of No Return , as I find it sooo passionate, almost sexual. It gives me shivers every time I watch it. Her relation with The Phantom is way more sexual anyway throughout the whole movie as I see it.
But I also really like the Music of the Night scene, with Phantom of the Opera before it. But MotN again has this certain passion around it.
The graveyard scene and song is marvelous as well, I like the setting, the mood. And I soooo want to have Christines clothes she wears there!!! It's to die for! Sadly I can't find such clothing anywhere...

I have to favorite scenes. 1st of all, (my ultimate favorite) is when the Phantom, Christine, and Raoul are all under the operahouse and Raoul is tied up and they are all singing at the same time. Also know as "Down Once More/Track Down This Murderer". I'm so glad Christine chose Raoul! :D 2nd of all, when Raoul and Christine are on there way up to the roof and also when they are on the roof singing. Also known as "Why Have You Brought Me Here/Raoul I've Been There" and "All I Ask of You". Raoul is soooo awesome! He and Christine are prefect together!

This isnt really my favourite scene, but I like the transformation of christine from when she was singing 'Think of Me' in the Hannibal rehersals to actually preforming. That was very clever with all sparkling diamonds appearing in her hair and all the seats being filled etc. it gives me such an adrenaline rush when the music gets louder and the singing sounding as if it was being sung live (the acoustics)...very good. They do it really well in the show too.

1. Phantom Overture- In the auction, when the chandelier goes up and the colors change from black & white to vibrant colors. It's beautiful and stunning, and the music is soo powerful, I just knew I was going to love the rest of the film. Kudos to Swarovski for the Stunning chandelier!!
2. Think of Me- God, I love when Emmy(Christine) is on stage, with that gorgeous dress with Swarovski crystals. The performance by Emmy is wonderful. And by the way, when I get married(whenever that happens), that's my wedding dress!! :cd9:
3. Point of No Return- Thanks to the film, it is my favorite Phantom song! I just love this scene, Gerard and Emmy have such great chemistry here...I loved them! The scene was full of passion, lust, mystery, and desire...I fall for the phantom everytime I see this scene, especially when he says...I love you, Christine. I just want to say I love you too, Erik!! The vibriance of the colors & the music capture me everytime. No one is allowed to speak at all when I watch this scene. Butler and Rossum just ooze sexuality, mystery, and alas, love. :tp7: :cd7:
4. All I Ask of You- This scene is just complete sweetness for me. Raoul & Christine just show what pure, clean love is about. :raoulc1:
5. The Ending- I love how when Raoul leaves the monkey music box and he sees the rose with the diamond ring...that was just magical. I loved how it shows the intense love that they still feel for her even though she has passed away. True love never dies...
6. Learn to be Lonely/Ending Credits- Check out my username...lol I love this song! It makes me cry everytime(that's a good thing though), because I think of the phantom. I just want to go out and look for him(I'm serious!)!! To me, this song encorporates the life of the phantom & the utter sadness one must feel to have to live alone.

Excellent describtions you pointed down here. Especially the one about 'Point of no Return'. Rossum and Butler are truly magical there, you can actually feel the passion, desire and lust they portray. As if it's not a movie, but something which is really happening!

I love every seen they are all very wonderful but my phavorites are PONR, The opening scene in the stage production when they light the chandalier and every thing comes to life that has to be the most memorable scene ( a little alumination....gentlemen and the music starts...I love that scene!! ), music of the night, and masqueade in the movie I think that coriography was very well planed and the movements and dance were so so great, and many many more. :D

It was Anne Hathaway, Keira Knightley, and Charlotte Church. John Travolta was also considered as Banderas. Katie Holmes was for sure, almost cast, but was then cited as being too old or looking too old for the part.

I think that Anne Hathaway would be my pick if Emmy Rossum was not selected. She is also a true beauty, has a look of innocence, and is talented, but of course, she does not sing. So Rossum was the excellent choice, cause she and Butler looked gorgeous...they should have been a couple in real life, who cares about the age difference, they are great together!

Hathaway would have been the second best choice indeed, but only by looks, because, as you say, she's not a singer. Or maybe she is but we don't know...then again, if she would, she might have been a good choice as well, so propably not :D Keira Knightley is good looking too but doesn't have that innocent look. And Charlotte Church would have been complete hell!!

Actually, Anne Hathaway does sing, but it's mostly pop music. I don't think she ever had any operatic training.
However, I think that one actor who should have been given the chance to audition for the role of Erik was Hugh Jackman. He wanted the role, and being a Broadway actor, he probably would have done very well. Unfortunately, he was starring in The Boy From Oz on Broadway when POTO was filming. :(

I completely agree about Church, I am not a big fan of her. Everytime I think of Keira, I think that while she has a certain look of innocence, I will always think of her as Elizabeth Swan from the Pirates of the Caribbnean. That's interesting that Anne sings, I never knew, thanks for the information. I do believe Hugh Jackman would have been great too.

I agree, Weinstein is not even as attractive as Butler. Topher Grace is the television actor from That 70's Show, he appeared in a film with Dennis Quaid and Scarlett Johansson(from Lost in Translation), called In Good Company.

Yes, I believe we are! :D They looked so cute together in the photoshoots and press conferences, they seem to have gotten along very well during the making of the film, despite the age difference. I saw a video once of one of their movie premieres, and she and Butler were messing around and joking nee' flirting in a sweet way, it was adorable. There are soo many scene's to choose from...I love when Christine sings "Think of me," when the Phantom leads Christine down to his lair, Masquerade, The Point of No Return, and the end where Christine kisses the Phantom. I love all the scene's really, but I have to say when chandelier rises into the air to be put back in it's original place and transforms the stage to what it once was, just grasps my attention from the beginning to the end.

My favourite scene is the one where the Phantom leads Christine down to his underground lair. It feels very spiritual.
My second favourite scene, and the one I find the most humorous (though I'm sure it wasn't intended to be funny at all), happens just before that.
Christine is alone in her room after Raoul has left. We hear the voice of the Phantom sing:
Insolent boy, this slave of fashion
Basking in your glory
Ignorant fool, this brave young suitor
Sharing in my triumph!
That is my favourite vocal in the whole movie. I love the way GB spits out the words. There's such contempt. He has such a bad-ass attitude. He sounds like he's auditioning for Aerosmith or Pink Floyd, and if it were up to me I'd give him the job. But that's not what I find so humorous. What cracked me up is what Christine sings back to him, with a totally straight face:
Angel, I hear, you speak, I listen
Stay by my side, guide me
Boy, that's some rock'n'roll angel she's singing to! If that's what the angels sound like, then Heaven must really rock out!
In all honesty, I don't think Gerard Butler is much of a singer at all. On the other hand, I gotta admire his spirit.

The final lair is the scene that really grips me. Its filled with so much emotion and tension and when Christine finally leaves; heartbreaking is the only word that can describe it. I especially like the bit when Christine gives back the ring. Although theres no singing, just the expression on both of their faces is priceless!

Oh . . . Music of the Night. And when he is on the roof, but mainly on the statue. Then it would have to be PONR. But I love MOTN because I think that is has the prettiest music. But so does AIAOY. But I have alot of favorite scenes.
My favourite scene is at the very end of the picture when the Phantom is sobbing "Masquerade" over the chime of the Persian monkey, and then Christine comes in and gives him the ring. And he sings "Christine I lovvveee you..." before she turns and walks out of his life forever.
It really strikes an emotional chord with me for whatever reason. I'm a man so I don't really cry easily (especially for films) but if I did, than this would probably be the seen that would get me foggy-eyed.

After watching the movie a few more times i'm defentally going to have to say that I love PONR! I think Emmy Rossum sings wonderfully during that part, as does Gerard Butler. The way they look into each others eyes and sing to one another...romantic...up until Christine rips his mask off, but we'll just not focus on that part..lol! But anyway the end when Christine kisses Erik is sweet and loving. I wish it ended with them being together.*sigh* Oh well things happened that way for a reason I suppose.

Three-way tie. Prima Donna, for its extravagant, over-the-top costumes and antics, PoNR, for sheer snexiness (cuz snexy is the new smexy) and Down Once More, for its absolute fervor.
^_^ A really nicely done scene, or part of a scene, or whatever, is the part where Christine sings Twisted Every Way... ::swoons:: Best part of the movie. Period.

My favorite scenes are when the Phantom is leading Christine down to his secret chamber and when Christine and Raoul are singing "All I Ask of You". Another powerful scene is "Point of No Return". A scene that I watch and rewatch and rewatch before continuing on with the rest of the film is raising the chandelier and bringing the opera house back to life. I wish that I could have seen that on the big screen! (It's difficult for me to go to the movie theater. *SIGH*) That brief scene gives me the chills! It really does!
Runner up--maybe: Christine's first time on stage is especially lovely, with all the busy stuff going on in the background. I find it interesting because the angle is such that you get an idea of the showmanship going on, yet everything is so white and sparkling and lovely as the camera moves around Christine. It's another one that makes me wish I could have seen it in the theater.

I absolutely love Music of the Night, Erik is so amazingly romantic in that song, promising her everything, his entire world, it's amazing.
I'd agree with Point of No Return, too... it's one of the only songs, I think, where we see Erik and Christine with mutual attraction. I love that.
All I Ask of You kind of tears me both ways... it's a beautiful romantic song, but I hate that she's betraying Erik. So I'm ambivalent on that one.

Alright my favorite scene is the whole Point of no Return thing, very seductive and Erik is amazing. Also to keep this spam free I think my other favorite scene is at the Masquerade ball when Christine and Erik are standing on the stairs and just when you think she's going to go with him he tears the chain off her neck...but before he does that, the music combined with the looks on both their faces just makes the scene enthralling.

In the 2004 movie, my favorite scene is the kiss near the end. It was such a passionate kiss and I love that moment when Christine pauses and looks up at his teary eyes and then recommences. It was such a lovely, yet sad scene.
And the Masquerade scene is simply beautiful. So picturesque. The colors, costumes, camera angles are splendid.
The first time I watched it, my favorite scene was when we first hear Phantom in full voice. "Insolent boy this slave of fashion..." I loved that part. It's effect has worn off on me, but I still remember the excitement I felt the first few times I watched that part.
Phantom's Student

By far the most moving, is the rooftop reprise, where the Phantom picks up the rose tossed in the cold snow. It's so moving. Rejected, betrayed, tossed aside, after he gave her his music. Boy, been there, felt the rejection like that in my own life. I've read that when they filmed that scene it was extremely moving for everyone. You can read my own phantom thoughts about the symbol of the rose at my website.
Hidden Away
01-28-2008, 06:10 PM
You have to admit, you can NOT deny Erik! I have to agree with Phantom's Student. Oh Dear God! That is the scene were I always cry. I feel so bad that he was hurting. It hurts me to see him happy with Christine, but it hurt me worst when I saw him grieving for the fact that she had betrayed him. I know we all have that place inside us that burns for him in such a way.
Alright you have to admit, the Point of No Return scene makes me blush the darkest red you could ever imagine! Very, hispanic, very luring, very seductive, and those people who think that Erik (movie/musical version) isn't seductive...YOU'RE WRONG! If man has the artistic mind, the bold guts and the brains to write something, such as the Point of No Return, that makes a virgin (like me!) blush for the first time in their life with the cause of that red moment coming from the exact thought seduction, I know that he is very mysterious, alluring, and sweetly seductive. If you think different please tell me. But there things that I know for sure. One being, there was not another moment of my life that I've blush before see the movie for the first time (and after the times I've watched with my friends), two being, Erik is--in the musical/movie--a seductive, yet halfly insane man (it says so in the introduction of my version of Gaston's book), and also two things in the world make me blush: The thought of my book--if you ever read that far which I haven't even posted and don't plan on it for it's just a bit detailed--
and that scene of the movie.
But it hurts to see him propose to her for the second time, and all she could do was rip of his mask! What kind of woman would do that! I know why, though, she did it! She nothing, but an evil little demon that beats and betrays at his poor heart that has been caring for her since she was seven. (I believe if I'm not corect pelase correct me!)
I also love the scene with the Opera House jumps from 1919 to 1870, I love the beautiful transitions and the colors changes. It brought tears to my eyes after so many years of not shedding a tears about anything.
Basically, The Phantom of the Opera has brought so many emotions into my heart be it sad, happy, scorned, depressed, mourning, laughing, or just jealous. *looks around* Every emotion has been casted into this movie. And I highly love everything thing. (but those were my favorite scene...)
Phantom's Student

For me it's the rooftop scene after Raoul and Christine leave and he bends down to pick up the rose she discarded. Most powerful message in the rose the thorn of rejection he feels once again. It touches my heart every time I see it.

Ok my two favourite scenes in the move (I actually have a different favourite from the stage show) are:
1) I love the part on the roof top with the Phantom. It is so beautifully played, and beautifully put together.
2) I supose you could say it's part of a scene. The bit almost at the end when Erik says "Christine I love you" just the way Raoul sung it. It breaks my heart every time.

Overture: This is just a great piece of work. I love the whole thing!
The main title song where they are going down to his lair.
And the swordfight! I always root for the Phantom even though I know he's gonna lose!

Well I can't just pick one so I will post my two favorite.
First, the roof top scene where the Phantom is kneeling in the snow with the rose. And the reason why is that scene reminds me of the end of the November Rain video from G N" R. (I was a big fan when I was a teen) So something about that just gave me this feeling the same way the video did. Can't really put it into words.
Second, is PONR. I have to agree with other that is just sexy, sensual, and hot.

I Remember/Stranger Than You Dreamt It: Gerry's acting during the part where she unmasks him is amazing. I have never seen a Phantom get so worked up over the unmasking...until now. That part is so good it made me rewind my recording of the movie and watch the unmasking for a second time.
Down Once More/Final Lair: The part where she kisses him is interesting to watch because he smiles afterward. Once again, this is something I have never seen a Phantom do.

Hmmm, my favorite scene would have to be...the credits? No, I'm teasing. I'll leave my purist anger out of this one.
I truley believe that the scene that had the best overall exacution would have to be Point of No Return. And no, not just because it was sexy or hot or whatever. I thought that Joel really studied the lyrics to the song and had them just go at it. That was probably the only time that happened in the film.

The unmasking. That was the one scene where I felt Gerry was really able to capture the Phantom perfectly. His gestures, body movements and the way he said his lines from "Damn you!' to Stranger Than you Dreamt It really told me that, despite being miscast and badly directed, Gerry had a pretty good hold on what the Phantom's emotions were.

One of my absoulutly most favorite scenes is when Christine sings "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again". Just the sheer power of it, and the sadness, the lyrics, it just gets me everytime. I love love love the scene where Christine and the Phantom kiss. I think he found out what true love is in that sequence.
Also, one of my favorite scenes is where Christine and Raoul have finished "All I Ask Of You" and the Phantom squeezes the rose she droped, in anguish, and when he clibms up on the statue and sings to the night of his sorrows. I think that is really a portrayl of his rage and obsession, but then he also understands how Raoul feels about Christine, quote "He was bound to love you, when he heard you sing...", and he sounds all sad and such.
Anyway, I love the whole movie, so there really is no point in picking. (I also love the scene where Carlotta goes "Co-ack"!)

I have three favorite scenes:
1. When The Phantom is talking to Christine from the mirror.
2. The boat ride to his lair.
3. At the end when Christine kisses The Phantom. Downright awesome and awwww! :) It's what should have lasted.

My favorite scene is Don Juan. Maybe it's just the singer with me but it gives me the shivers with all the accidentals and clashing notes. I love it. Then as it continues on to Point of No Return. The sheer power in the song and between Christine/Emmy and Phantom/Gerry. :) It is truly amazing.

My favorite scene in the movie is always the Overture. I thought " how will they film that?", since on stage its just the chandalier rising to the ceiling. However, the concept for the movie of the Opera House going from old and dusty back to its heyday was incredible.

Ah! I never really thought about that. That is interesting, I'm not really sure how they would film that. I also like the scene while the Phantom of Joseph are on a wild chase/run. It's really interesting see how the view runs from here to there and everywhere!

Like many of you said, one is so difficult to pick as it is all so stunning. But I must admit, that when I do not watch the whole movie on my computer, just pick scenes, I always pick the ones with Phantom.:tp1: In my book his performance was so stunningly beautiful that you could not help feel everything he felt. I don't remember the last time I cried over a movie and since I've been around a long time!!!-maybe a movie where a dog dies. But I:crying: my heart out for Erik.
I love MOTN-Just the way he does it, so sexy, so delicious and beautiful.
The morning when she strips off his mask is so sad. He is like a poor little child who has been caught. Her song is so pretty though and his, by contrast so heartbreaking.:BrokenHeart:
But from PONR on, that si what I choose to watch when I have less time and can't watch much. That one really made me realize I was not void of feeling as I had believed.:tp7:
Anyway, all of gerry's performances touch me, not because he is the greatest singer ever, but because he put his whole heart and soul into it. He truly became the Phantom.

Gosh its so hard to choose. ummm
1. "Wishing you Were Somehow Here Again" :cd6: Probably because I know just how much she misses her dad. Trust me when it comes to mourning i am an expert unfortunatly. Plus her voice is just so so I can't even describe it.
2."Past the Point of no Return" :tp7::cd7: really really hot. Gerry and Emmy just put fourth this ENERGY that even I can feel. I know its totally cliche oh well :smirk:.
3. Defanetly the "Overture" and the chandalier. All the colors and the music. I'm a sucker for the music.

With so many scene to choose from my favorite would have to be when the Phantom leads Christine down to his lair under the opera house and when he sings Music of the Night. :tp1: Another would be Point of no Return.

from the surroundings and the set I would have to say my favorite scene is when Meg goes through the tunnel. it's dark, and dangerous and she gets scared. it's not necessarily trying to scare the mess out of the viewers, but it does give a feel that "hey this guy is sorta crazy and has something to do with this hallway" (from the amateur mind of course--definitely not of a phan's POV) ;)

My favorites:
Overture - love the way it sweeps you into the story.
MotN - OMG, that has to be one of THE MOST seductive scenes I have EVER seen.
Stranger Than You Dreamt It - just so heartbreaking...why the heck didn't Christine sit and talk with him?
Notes I - the managers are obviously the comedic relief, along with La Carlotta, but I love the bafflement of the two and how they work together.
The Cemetery Fight - I just love sword fights and thrilled at how Gerik! would use his cloak against Raoul, a very effective fighting technique.

I like how the movie en-cooperated more than just the Opera House. They had scenes outside of the Opera within the boundaries of Paris. The streets and the exact time reference that the movie was in. Added scene are usual and expected in renditions of movies/movie musicals but just from a non biased POV I actually enjoy how they had the idea of it. I'm not sure also who thought of the end scene with Old Raoul offering the music box and noticing the rose on the grave. It was almost like a smack in the face for him I know, but the Phantom was this crazy guy who just couldn't let go of the fact that he loved this woman who never could love him back. It's then whene people refuse to side with either Raoul or the Phantom. Twisted, but that's just it's nature.

I am also like everyone else; I have yet to choose a favorite scene, as all of them were rather good. (Take that as a compliment, folks, as I'm still not really sure Gerry was a good choice for the Phantom or not. But that debate is for another time.) However, there were a few scenes that stuck out to me more than others.
1. The Overture. I have to hand it to them; the graphics, the music, the feeling of it all was very exciting. I especially love how they went back into the backstages of the opera house, showing how things are before a rehearsal or show.
2. Angel of Music Reprise/Phantom of the Opera. -screams in delight- I absolutely loves the gandola scene, and the sounds along with the music was great! I love how Gerard's voice echoed in one 'SING FOR ME!' fit. It really gave the whole song depth and feeling. The horse? Well, I'm not a fan of horses, but it was a nice touch.
3. Twisted Every Way. Not only is Christine's costume STUNNING, the song itself is very touching; it expresses how Christine is being torn in two with the decision she has to make. She doesn't want to betray the Phantom, but she knows it's the right thing to do. Raoul, always the gentle one, comforted her while she cried. -sigh-
4. Point Of No Return. Despite the fact that things got a little mushy there at the end with the whole phantom-moves-his-hands-around-places-she-shouldn't-have ordeal, the song was filled with passion, which is something I LOVE. It was so full of emotion, with the slightest hint of deceit, me thinks.
5. Down Once More. It was so sad at the end, I cry nearly every time. Although Gerry's voice was rough by the end, I still think the song was great, and it gets even better when Raoul comes. "Wait! I think, my dear, we have a guest!"
All in all, there were several scenes that were delightful, passionate, sad, and rather creepy at the same time. Oh, "Wandering Child" was also a very touching scene. I LOVE THE VIOLIN SOLO. It actually is one of the few parts of the 2004 movie that hints to Leroux's book; Leroux!Erik played the violin, I believe.

What is your favourite scene in the movie?
I have two, well three.
First: Music of the Night...beautiful song, a good bonding moment for Erik and Christine, and Gerard Butler is so freaking hot in that scene. Makes me pine for wanting to be Christine.
Second: It's going to be a weird one....but when everyone in the opera house is preparing to for rehersal and the show that night. I can identify, with at least the performers, because it is a rush to prepare for opening night. I miss that :(
Third: When Phantom takes Christine down to his lair.

I really enjoyed the scenery of the entire movie. Obviously the Overture was beautifully done. I enjoy the small tid bits that they added such as the dancer preparing their shoes, the stagehands running around and even the hint that we get when Joseph peaks through the hole in the wall. it added depth the to the characters. When Christine and Meg were rushing to barre warm ups they were slightly late and so it made it seem like they entire had a hard time getting their or they were talking about something. It just supports their friendship. When Raoul makes his early appearance he is seen as prestige and "up-there". With the managers walking with him, that starts to make a statement that they are important people. I don't know there's so many things that you can point out in one run through of the movie. It's funny because my phreak Phantom phriend started to take notes in what was new or layerings in each character. She could have written a research paper.
But also, besides the Overture, the Phantom's Lair is my second favorite set. I really enjoy the scattered-ness of it, but yet there was still composure. That's what the Phantom is about disarray with class (haha!).

Point of No Return, Music of the Night, and All I Ask of You reprise are my favourites. I think they show the Phantom's feelings better than most other scenes.
