Username: DarkGondolier
Character: Anna Gibson
Age: 15
Occupation: Seamstress, artist, stagehand, she mainly does odd jobs to earn a bit of money and helps out where needed. She is privately training herself to sing and hopes to one day be talented enough to perform.
Appearance: Anna is unusually thin and rather short, standing at 5'2, though a bit stronger than her wiry frame would suggest. She has plain brown hair, usually worn down or in ponytails to keep it out of her face. Her face is oddly round for one so thin and her soft features seem trusting and open, though she is anything but. Her expressive eyes are a deep brown and often match her moods, as much as she wills them not to. Black mascara usually frames them, applied more liberally some days than others, and she hides the bags under her eyes with cover-up. She rarely wears any other makeup. Her usual outfit consists of worn jeans and an old t-shirt, with a plain sweatshirt or jacket added in cold weather.
Personality: Anna was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when she was thirteen, though she never took any medication. As would be expected, her moods often swing back and forth from manic joy, energy, and imulsiveness to dark depression that threatens to overwhelm her, once leading her to a suicide attempt. In between she experiences periods of relative normalcy. During these times she is introverted and shy, not willing to trust anyone and haunted by her past. She is also curious and a bit of an explorer, often sneaking away from her duties to explore the opera house. She experiments with drugs and alcohol from time to time, though has not yet developed an addiction to either. As of lately she has been coming to terms with her recent romantic and sexual thoughts, and is perhaps looking for someone special.
History: Anna grew up in London, though certainly not in the wealthy, respectable part. Her mother was an alcoholic druggie, unable to care for her or her younger brother Cody. Her father is unknown, but thought to have been a one-night stand. Her mother died of a drug overdose when Anna was seven and her brother was four. The siblings were separated and put in foster homes. Cody was put with a loving family who eventually adopted him. Anna was not so lucky and ran away when she was eight. She lived with Cody and his foster family until Child Services caught up with her and dumped her in another unpleasant foster home. Her new "parents" treated her more like a pet than another member of their family, so Anna ran away yet again a year later. She lived alone on the streets for a couple months, begging and stealing, until she met up with a group of homeless children who let her into their group and gave her the closest thing to a family she'd ever known.
One day when Anna was twelve, all the street kids were rounded up and sent to a boarding school, a new plan of the local government. Anna attended the school until she was thirteen, when a mysterious fire burnt it down. She never learnt exactly who it was, but suspected her friend Jimmy.
Now she was living on the streets again, though this time older and more prepared. She stopped begging and stole everything instead. Occasionally someone would offer her an odd job, though those were rare and far in between. She soon became involved in activities of questionable legality, which earned her considerably more money. For a while she was part of a drug dealing and smuggling operation, though this was soon shut down by the police. During this time she was introduced to drugs and alcohol, which she found tended to help with her moods sometimes. Eventually she ran out of ways to earn money in the arena she'd been working in and was out of money once more. For a while, she turned to prostitution in desperation, though that didn't last long. It was one of the darker times of Anna's life and was the time frame in which she tried to commit suicide. She swallowed poisin, though all this did was end her up in the psych ward for a few weeks.
When she was fourteen she met a street violinist named River and another homeless girl named Rowena. She stayed with them for nearly a year, living in River's tiny flat but keeping herself off the streets and creating what she considered a family. But this was not to last and one day Anna, in a wild frenzy, nearly destroyed the flat and put Rowena in the hospital. She never forgave herself and ran away once more, this time to Paris. She had begun cutting herself, a habit she is now trying to rid herself of, to ease the pain of depression and was a bit of a mess when she finally arrived. Fortunately she cleaned herself up pretty quickly and established herself as someone who will do any odd jobs that need doing. She is trying to start anew with a more respectable occupation, but is finding that her former life is rather hard to let go of and still occasionally finds herself participating in illegal activities.
Other: Anna has lately begun collecting costume buttons she finds lying around on the ground and is hoping to one day make a sculpture of them. She has begun honing her artistic as well as musical abilities, in case the whole singing thing doesn't work out. Composing music is the next hobby she hopes to learn and take up. She speaks with a Cockney accent and is still trying to learn French, though she knows enough to get along. Her AI is Ellen Page.
