Does anyone else own the soundtrack for the film? My best friend (also a Phantom obsessive) bought me the special edition soundtrack - it's 2 disks and has all the songs and a large percent of the spoken lines, and includes "Learn To Be Lonely" (sung by Minnie Driver) on it. The quality is superb. Andrew Lloyd Webber is a very good composer & he did a brilliant job for Phantom. Discuss the soundtrack, music & favourite tracks here.

I've got the one disk highlights CD that I got for Christmas from my girlfriend, which has the most popular songs on it but not all. I want to get the two disk set since I love all the songs from the movie, and especially 'Learn to be Lonely' by Minnie Driver. Its a song I can relate to alot, personally.

I have...both. :) Originally I bought the single CD track...but being that one of my favorite songs is "Wandering Child," I couldn't very well settle for the shortened version that did NOT include WC...or 'Notes'...or 'Why So Silent'...or 'Stranger Than You Dreamt It'... ::continues listing long after readers have fallen asleep:: Anyways, I also have the 2 disk London recording with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman. ::Shudders:: Crawford's voice during MOTN still sends shivers up my spine...

My sister bought the movie soundtrack and today she bought the Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman version too. I love both! The movie soundtrack is wonderful, but so is the OLC. I think I like Emmy Rossum's voice best. I love Learn to Be Lonely too. Minnie sings it so well!

I'm definitely saving up money for the full movie soundtrack after listening to it a few times. I've about worn my single CD version out from the continuous use in my CD player, especially in my car. Listening to Phantom while driving down the road is awesomely fun to do.

The Khanum

That's what happened to me (although I don't own a car myself...serious lacking of the funds here...); I turn up the bass really loud when the POTO theme comes on, roll down the window, and watch as everybody within fifty feet of me turn around in their seats and stare! ;) Anyways, I scratched up my single CD so badly that it skips all the time, so I went out and bought the 2-disc. It's a lot better, believe me. I put the entire soundtrack on my MP3 player (except for the songs I don't really enjoy, like the opening Auction and the Carnival sequence).

Plus there's a little booklet inside with lots of nifty pictures! :)

Hmm yeah I play the main POTO theme very loudly at all times! My parents complain a lot! Lol if I played it whilst driving (which obviously I can't, seeing as I'm 13) then I would probably crash 'cause I'd be so taken up by the music! Steve - you drive?! Unnh..where you live the rules must be different..18 years is the youngest for anyone can drive, here in the UK. Okay, off topic lol :P

The Phantom

I'll dulge into a different topic here on driving while listening to the Phantom soundtrack. In North Carolina, in the United States you can be 15 for a permit to drive with an adult 5 to 9, 15 and half to drive with an adult anytime. 16 for license to drive 5 to 9 by myself, then 16 and a half to drive any time (basically a full license). I've already gotten my full license. ;)

I should have probably made copies of my CD and used them in my car, CD players in cars tend to scratch up CD's really bad. But back on the topic of Phantom... people do see me strange as enjoying to listen to teh music constantly.

;)

The Khanum
04-11-2005, 02:35 AM
Whoa...that's completely not fair. I live in PA and we can't even get our permit until sixteen...license at 16 1/2, full license at 17. ::Sigh:: I don't even have my permit yet...three months to go...

Just as a note, I've created a new thread for Driving Age (http://www.phantoms-opera.com/viewthread.php?tid=139&page=1#pid501) in the General Discussion forum so we won't get off topic this much again, hehe. So now we're back on track on the topic of the soundtrack. How many times have you found yourself singing to the lyrics? I have to stop myself anytime I hear any of the sound track music, even if my voice is a teeny bit off key.

The Khanum
04-11-2005, 03:24 AM
Haha...yeah, if I hear anything that vaguely reminds me of POTO lyrics, I'll start out humming, then murmuring lyrics, and finally breaking out into song (very loudly, and very badly, I might add). Yes, I can become quite obnoxious when I sing. And I will do it anywhere...school, walking my dog, randomly hanging out with friends, in the car, in basically any public place...

Most of my friends tell me to stop singing or try to shut me up once I hear anything resembling the sound track. I've come to the point I don't care where I am or who I'm with, if I've got the urge to start singing my heart out to the lyrics of The Phantom and Christine, I will do so with no one stopping me. Heh, in a way my singing has improved since I've gotten the sound track.

Every time! I love singing - though not in front of other people. Me & my best mate (fellow POTO phan) always sing reeeally loudly! She's normally Christine & I'm Phantom, then we take different roles as the soundtrack progresses - so basically, we do the whole of the soundtrack with just two of us lol! It's kinda hard..'specially when three characters are singing at once :D

AHH! My one friend and I do the EXACT same thing...me as Erik, she as Christine (because I have a lower voice and all). It's particularly funny when we do the end of the POTO theme...she's hitting all these obnoxiously high notes (like the high E at the very end) and I sit back and yell, "SING, MY ANGEL OF MUSIC...SING..."

Quite amusing.

Ha ha.

I can’t get any of my Phantom friends to attempt and sing the songs with me, usually they are too embarrassed to sing in front of other people. Sometimes I attempt to sing Christine’s parts, lol! Improvisation is key if you want to sing a triplet/duet by yourself...

I like the movie sound track really well though, would you say its digitally clearer and better sounding than the Opera songs? Nothing can beat the originals but it seems they put more electronic effort into this one.

The Khanum
04-12-2005, 12:08 PM
I think the lyrics are a lot clearer...you can actually understand what they're saying a heck of a lot easier on the movie soundtrack. Sometimes it's hard to tell for the Crawford/Brightman version...well, at least it is for me.

Maybe I'm just weird.

Aht he movie soundtrack! Well I just have the 2 CD set extended version and I love it to peices. It's essentially my "homework" music that I listen to whenever I'm on the computer or trying to solve a math problem. :P I've listened to that thing so many times...

I think the movie sound track is a lot more clear than the Michael Crawford/Brightman one. I can actually undersstand what Christine is saying on the movie soundtrack (It's rather hard to decipher what Brightman is saying at times).

As for singing...at times I attempt to sing along with it. I'm afraid my vocal range is completely horrid so I can just hit all the notes the phantom sings and that's about it. But that doesn't always stop me from trying to sing along with Christine. ;)

Eh lol I was at my best mates place yesterday & the day before...we listened to her mums Andrew Lloyd Webber CD cuz it has a few Phantom songs (POTO theme, Think of me, Angel of Music, Music of the Night, All I Ask Of You) and the Phantom was awful! Especially in the Music of the Night. Raoul was awful in Angel of Music (saying "who's is that voice, who is it in there?" etc) but (imo) better than Patrick in All I Ask Of You. The Phantom was just rubbish though! lol we were cracking up soooo badly!

I own both the film soundtracks. Since I don't have a lot of money, I bought them from the iTunes music store. :D It's very interesting, having a techno version of the title track.

I like the orchestrations of the film better than the stage version for most of the songs, though I REALLY miss verse 4 of POTO. I always listen to the CDs in Graphics class, since the teacher doesn't care. The problem is, I like to have the volume up high, so it's always a shock to me when I take off the headphones and discover that everyone else could hear it too.

I could not agree more - it's especially fun when you can just ride along and belt out every line.

Although it's probably impossible to narrow this down...what is everyone's fave. song to sing along with? If I had to limit it to three, I would probably have to say "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again," "The Phantom of the Opera," and "Down Once More/Track Down This Murderer."

How about you guys?

My favourite songs, on the movie soundtrack is "Angel of Music" because the Meg is so much better than the one on the OLC and "All I Ask of You" and "Down Once More". I love them all of course, but there are songs I prefer the OLC singing... (most of the songs I prefer the OLC actually) I also love the deep bass of the theme song, but I'm disappointed about the left out verse. However the organ chords on the movie are more powerful.

Hmm... My favorite songs from the film soundtrack would probably be "Point of No Return," "Music of the Night," "The Phantom of the Opera," "Wishing," and "Wandering Child." I like singing along with the Phantom (I do this with the OLC, and every other POTO CD I have), and have improved my range considerably. I'm naturally a bass, but thanks to POTO, I can hit almost all the high notes that Erik and Raoul sing with minimal trouble. :D

I really love the 2-disk soundtrack! Unfortunately it skips quite a bit now, so my great-grandmother burned them for me. ~lol~ I have a very funny story involving the Overture.

I had started the soundtrack from the first track (the auction; had it up VERY loud in order to hear it) and then had to go inside the bank while my mom waited in the car. When I came out, she was like, "I forgot that music comes on so loud and this old lady had just walked out and it came on. I thought she had a heart attack!" We both cracked up; it was VERY funny! I only wish I had been able to see it...

Anyways, I love the soundtrack; couldn't see buying the one-disk because then I wouldn't have my favorite songs!

The 2004 movie soundtrack

When the motion picture soundtrack of PHANTOM was issued in december 2004, I made the mistake of buying the single disc. The one to have is the 2-disc which has every scrap of music originally heard in the movie theatre. The sound is superb with only one flaw. Emmy Rossum's music track is very distant during the song "think of me". My sources at sony tell me that the movie soundtrack is selling very well, (Although the movie bombed). This recording is a feast for the ears and sounds just breathtaking in all of it's splendor. Well worth every penny.

PS; I've never been a Sarah Brightmen fan so Emma is a wonderful substitution and, has a much better voice. Happy listening.

I bought my soundtrack about a month after I saw the movie because I, being naughty as usual, decided to buy the soundtrack in Singapore because then I could make my parents buy it for me. hehe. And ripped the entire thing onto iTunes and my iPod.

And about singing the songs at random times, about two weeks ago, my sis and mum came dowb to Perth to visit me and my sis and I were walking through a supermarket listening to my iPod and singing the "Phantom of the Opera". Wonder how many people stared at us?, hehe. And yesterday, during a karaoke session with my friend, we were singing "Phantom of the Opera", with me doing Christine and she doing the Phantom, during the part when Christine goes "ahh.. ahh.. ahh.." near the end of the song, my friend shouted "Sing my Angel of Music!" and I fell onto the sofa laughing and could on sing anymore. And during the same karaoke session but later on, we randomly shouted "Sing my Angel of Music!" into the microphones. Wonder if anyone heard us. Oh well ...

I have both the 2 disc and the single disc versions. I prefer the 2 disc set because it's like hearing an edited version of the film. It makes your mind wander back to certain scenes. My favourite tracks are 'wishing you were...' and 'past the point of no return' although all the songs have unique qualities and are a pleasure to listen to.

I only have the single disc version, but if I can find the two-disc in a store, I'll buy it. Living in the middle of nowhere has it's drawbacks. The only place I've found it so far has been at Barnes and Noble in the Mall of America, and I was out of cash when I found it. *sigh*

I listen to it all the time, though. Whenever I'm on the road, I'm listening. My mom and I both love it, so we listen together when we go shopping or something. Whenever my parents aren't home, I'm listening. Well, if they are home, I still am, but then I don't sing along...

I can actually hit most of the notes. All except the last note of Christine's in "PotO." I am getting better at that one, though. I bet I'll have it by the end of summer vacation. :D And, oddly enough since I'm a soprano, I can sing most of the Phantom's stuff in the male range, but I also like to have fun by taking it up to the soprano range, mostly on "MotN." That makes for good times, I tell you. :D

The film soundtrack made me appreciate some songs that I didn't particularly care for when I heard them on the original London cast recordings. For example, Prima Donna. I find it absolutely obnoxious in the OLC, but hilarious in the film! Also, Point of No Return. When I heard it on the OLC, I always thought, "MC sounds completely emotionless here! What on earth happened?" However, Gerry and Emmy's rendition have made PONR my favorite song from Phantom, ever. :mask:

Sorry, I know I'm a little late to join in on this, but from the 1st page, when you guys were talking about breaking into song whenever you got a reminder of POTO? Believe me, that's exactly what I do. My friends are constantly telling me to shut up, because I sing the songs constantly and start quoting everytime I hear anything similar to a line in the movie or a song. Lol, it's really quite amusing. All of my non-POTO phan friends think I'm completely insane for being as obsessed as I am... I know the entire movie and soundtrack by heart by now, since I watch and listen so much. :)

I own the one CD soundtrack, but it has 'Learn to be Lonely', which is a great song, I might add.

Of course, even before that, I practically had my own collection of all of them, because that's what my Best Guy Friend would do at lunch, sing all of the songs, just in time for me to go to the class with the strictest teacher in the school. I was ready to kill him one day, because I start randomly humming loudly in class and everyone looked at me funny *blushes*

I own both the soundtracks to the movie. I bought the original one first because my friend already had it herself and I hadn't seen the movie yet so I only listened to 2 tracks "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Phantom Overture".
After I saw the movie I couldn't stop listening to "Point of No Return" and "Down Once More".
Then I bought the special edition with 2 discs and had all the music including some talk and I love it and listen to that over and over.

Where I live, I can only get the 2-disc Soundtrack for more money than the DVD...so I figure why not just buy the DVD and watch that over and over again? ^^ That has ALL the tracks! XD
Yeah, so I just own the 1-disc one, which is just as good, with the exception of a few songs (I kinda miss having "Why have you brought me here" and "Stranger than you Dreamt it", but I'll survive).

I buy all of the soundtracks to my favorite movies. It's an obsession of mine. I have a bunch of sountracks, I can't even find half of them.

The soundtrack is what I fall asleep to, because I grew up on the noisiest street in the city, then moved to the quietest. So I need something to capture my eardrumbs. The soundtrack is what I use, even though it's hard to fall asleep with headphones on.

I just bought the two disc sound track... purely amazing! The music is so beautiful. I became obssessed with it since seeing the movie. When I listen to the songs I can picture everything in the movie as it's happening to the music... heh... okay, well, almost everything.

I love Gerard Butler's voice. I like that he doesn't sound like a professional, trained, singer, his voice has more edge and passion to it. Then again, I don't have anything to compare it with considering the only other Phantom I've heard sing were clips of Michael Crawford from the extras on the DVD, and I didn't much enjoy it.

I think Emmy has a beautiful voice, I wish I could sing like that. I constantly find myself (sometimes unaware of it) singing random lyrics that Christine has, especially WYWSHA and PONR, and trying to reach those high notes... they come out like like chicken screeches! *blush* :D

And despite how much I... dislike Raoul, Patrick Wilson has an awesome voice.

Favorite songs... definitely Point of No Return, Phantom of the Opera, Music of the Night, and Masquerade/Why So Silent?

Best music I have ever heard from a musical. :D

I used to have the special edition soundtrack but I scarificed it (scratched it up with a cord) to the OLC *shruggs*

I have both the 1-disc and 2-disc and I have almost all the songs from the 1-disc on my Ipod. Still debating wether I want to add more.

Since my version of the soundtrack for me was only herad and not kept, I can't say much about it. I've seen versions of the soundtrack with only the highlights and then a vesion with the instrumentals of the Graveyard scene (love it). I'm not sure--if I'm wrong do correct me--but some of the spoken lines are left out on a few songs...such as after "Strager than you Dreamt It". Just a question since I don't have good memory or the soundtrack itself.
