Have any of you gotten to hear the Spanish-language soundtrack of the 2004 movie? I loved the cast, and as it turns out, most of those had played the roles in the Spanish stage version as well! I especially adore Juan Carlos Barona as the Phantom -- particularly his "Music of the Night."

One thing that kinda bugged me, though, was that Julia Möller kinda overused vibratto in this version. The way she sang Christine's part onstage was lovely, and imo, would have fit the film's approach to the character a lot better. In this dub, she sounded . . . odd. But I still adore the Spanish soundtrack. :mask:

And here are a few YouTube clips, for those who haven't gotten to hear it and are curious:
"Think of Me" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e39uAmRbve0)
"The Phantom of the Opera" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5eR0M8EzAo)
"The Music of the Night" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgE8k17dizI)
"All I Ask of You" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhbClQGJWHA)
"The Point of No Return" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHsTaG-VWaY)

I have this other spanish version of POTO. i'm not sure who sings it but the lyrics are different than those you have up there. it starts out...

Durmiendo me canto, en sueños fue,
mi nombre pronuncio, yo lo escuche, y si soñando estoy y veo por fin, fantasma de la opera aqui estas, dentro de mi.

I had never heard of her before but i like her voice. His i'm not too fond of. I think Erik would be offended by having this man sing his part.

I reckon that the spanish version is pretty good. I liked Christine's voice, it sounded really good.

Have you heard the Italian version of Music of the Night? It's really good.

Here's the link for the curious :D

Its sung by Luca Velletri, he's got a lovely voice.

I agree about Luca -- much as I love Juan Carlos Barona, I prefer Luca's approach to the film score overall. In fact, I'm considering starting threads for the Italian and German dubs of the film, as well. :mask: But I will say that if Juan had gotten to really sing out the way he did onstage, he would've easily topped all the other film Phantoms. :D

Nichol, I'm not sure what version you mean... Do you have a link to a YouTube video or anything with the cast you mentioned? (I should also mention that I've never studied Spanish, and can only understand a few words here and there... ^_^; Plus, the language differs between Spain and Latin America.)

I've never seen a video for it. I haven't had time to do much research on it but i'm pretty sure its just a cover of the song.

I found some french versions too, while browsing Youtube.

I reckon they're great, and we can get more of a feel of the "romantic "language and the whole Parisian setting.

Heres some of them:

Larent Ban sings Erik, Cecilia Cara sings Christine. I really like Christine's voice in french, it sounds really good, but she stuffed the high notes a bit in TOM.
Erik sounds awesome in PotO though.

Now. past the french version.

The Chinese version! :D

I found it on youtube (again), and I just fel in Love with his voice!

I loved the French dubbing as well -- we've got a separate thread for it here, (http://www.phantoms-opera.com/showthread.php?t=2161) but don't worry -- 'tis awesome that all the different dubs of the movie can coexist!

I had seen the Chinese music vid, and I agree he'd be a pretty good Phantom! In fact, I heard that ALW is planning on opening a production of the stage show in China (translated into the Chinese language). He originally said he wanted to open this summer, to coincide with the Beijing Olympics. No idea if it's ready for that, though. But hey . . . the more different-language versions there are, the better!

Buffff I HATED the spanish dub. AWFUL translation. I liked Barona, but Möller....just no.

Well, we can't expect the translation to be a solid redition of the English one. Especially with ALW's music, it's difficult to do.

Anyway, the vocals are superior and FAR better than Emmy and Gerry's.

Well, I prefer Emmy and Gerry.
And Countess, believe me: the translation didn't even make sense in some songs. Awful. On the stage there was another translation, and it was way better.

I don't speak Spanish, so I can't judge. All I know is that it's a very difficult and grueling process to go through. The other translation was probably copyrighted by that company doing the production and they didn't have access to it.

As for Emmy and Gerry, to each his own but they don't hold the same technique and quality as the other two do.

I like the Spanish dub. I agree the translation is certainly not the best, but Viktoria's probably right in saying the stage translation was copyrighted.

I think Barona has a very good voice, though I perfer him on stage. Same for Moller, on stage her voice sounds, I don't know how to put this... different, I guess, and I really like her acting (what I've seen, anyway).

As for Emmy and Gerry, well, I don't really care for them, so I'll just keep my mouth shut.
