I have a question and its been bugging me for the longest time, so here it is,

"If you were Christine as Erik sings to you the Music of the Night, (God I love that song!) And you had yourself revealed to you in the wedding dress, would you faint intoErik's arms just so he can carry you back to bed? Or something else and how?"

Yeah, just cant get a straight answer, plus its a yummy subject to think about!

Peace, love seduction, Erik

I have to say I don't really faint in situations, as much as I'd like sometimes. I'd probably just stare blankly at the dress for a while, then look at him.

And that's about it really. :/

I have never ever fainted before. If I was Christine and didn't love Erik as much as I as myself do, I'd probably run away from him and scream about how much of a lunatic he is.

Otherwise, if that was me and I already was in love with him probably because of him singing the Music of the Night. I'd probably marry him then and there.

Another thing though, isn't the Phantom supposed to be a mastermind of magic and all things supernatural? My friend told me that in the stage production of POTO (cause I haven't seen it) that the Phantom puts everyone under his spell kind of. So maybe he actually used his magic on Christine to make her faint just so he could carry her to bed.

From what I've heard (I haven't seen the stage version either! :() the "bride dummy" in the stage version actually pops up like a jack-in-the-box, scaring Christine and causing her to faint. After that, in the British productions and almost everywhere else, the Phantom catches her and carrys her to bed. However, in the American productions, the Phantom lets her fall where she stands and then covers her with his cape.

But the Phantom is quite a bit more "magical" in the stage version. For example, instead of a sword duel, he actually has a staff that launches fireballs at Raoul in the graveyard! And at the end, instead of smashing mirrors and then exiting through one, he sits in his chair and covers himself with his cape. When Meg gets there and lifts up the cape, he has vanished and only his mask remains. :mask:

I have never fainted, but i would probably pretend to faint just so he would catch me and carry me to the bed:D

I might actually faint just because I get scared easily and little things scare the stuff out of me. I would be flattered because the dress was beautiful and he took all that time, but I might pass out.

Or, I might pretend just so i could be carried back to the bed.

If I was wearing a corset as tight as she was I probably would have fainted. XD

Yep, that's basically it. :)

If I was Christine in that part of the story, I don't think I would have fainted. I would have probably backed away slowly and fell in the lake or something.

I've never fainted, well, that I know about...

I'm like FatesAngel123, I get scared easily and I'm really jumpy. So once he revealed the dress I would've screamed and prolly jumped into his arms with my hands around his neck. Who knows about the fainting thing. *shrugs* But hey, I mostlikely won't ever be in that situation...but a girl can dream right? :D

No, I don't think so. I've never fainted either. I think I would just look and then say "why on earth am I there dressed in a wedding dress?"
that's movie version. And for the stage version, the way the dummy pops out, well I'd probably jump like I usually do when I get a shock and then say "don't DO that to me", because that's my usual reaction, lol.
I think thats about it!

I've never fainted, and I don't think that I would. I'd scratch my head and look at it. He'd start tapping his foot impatiently because I was supposed to faint into his arms two hours ago.

If I saw a dummy and it looks like me, I would jump into his arms. THat would be how freaked out I would have been. But if I loved him I wouldnt have been freaked out. I would have been flattered.

Hmm... good question. I don't think I'm the type to faint easily though.

If we're talking about me as in who I really am, I guess what I would have done is probably yell a few swear words. That's so typical of me. OR. I would just stand there and mumble something.

I can tell you all are romantics...as am I...so I would love to fantasize about Erik...but if we're talking about what I'd REALLY do. I'd have run away from that freaky pedophile hours ago. I mean he's gourgous, but also a murderer and a complete stranger...and seems to be taking advantage of Christine so I'd be kicking and screaming and punching.

Hm...if I were Christine and I saw a dummy of myself in a wedding dress, I would just stand there looking at it. I am not a fainter, never have been, never will be. But when the dummy pops out (stage version) I would jump back, I don't know about screaming, but just maybe. Well she is in a trace so, I would pop out of the trance at that moment and be kind of wondering about things. And if Erik is waiting for me to faint, I bet he would just take a candle stand and hit me over the head with it to make me unconsious. Yeah, that's how it would be.

Well I must say that i'm not much of a fainter either. If it was like the stage version and the "dummy bride" jumped out at me I would probably be so freaked out that I'd either jump into the Phantom's arms or faint. However, if I just saw the dummy bride sitting there I would probably just stare at him blankly. Though if the Phantom was like Gerard Butler I wouldn't mind fainting into his arms at all. LoL! What can I say he's gorgeous!

:thumb: I can totally see where you're coming from... If (fingers crossed) the Phantom did that to me, after singing Music of the Night, I would do either one of the two things you two just described. *grins wickedly* That is to say, if the overly nasal MC were to sing it to me I would fully allow my natural kneejerk reaction to play out. Were it the GB version, I'd faint into his arms with a soft smile playing on my lips... and who knows from there?

*sighs* You are all such Erik fan girls...however, I don't mean that in a bad way. I have nothing against Erik, but I LOVE Raoul. So if that happened to me, I'd start to panic and possibly run, where I would trip (cause I'm clumsy like that) and be knocked out as my head made contact with the ground.

To be honest I'm not quite sure what I would do...
I've never fainted in my life, thankfully.
And well I do think Christine was in love with the phantom, rather she is or not, I know I am *grins*, so I'd probably just stand there staring at the dress, day dreaming, or if I was brave enough, I'm not really, I'm sort of shy, I'd probably just look at the floor, blushing furiously, as I told him that I loved him. *blush*

Oh wow...it's kind of impossible to know. But judging on all that had happened and all that he had done I think I would have been so overwhelmed by him alone, that by the time he showed me the mannequin I would have been overpowered and just stunned. So yeah, I think I would have fainted.

Personally, I have never fainted, but in that particular situation, I don't know.

Have you ever had one of those experiences where you are shocked out of a dead sleep, and your heart races really hard, and you can't get it to slow down? I would imagine that when Erik was singing to Christine, she was in a type of trance, and when she saw the wedding dress it shocked her out of it (you have to admit that seeing a wax figure of yourself in a wedding dress in some guy's house would be pretty creepy!).

Seeing as corsets in that time period were almost always laced ridiculously tight, that combined with the racing heart, would probably have made me faint.

I really like the Phantom alot, I think he is gorgeous. I always dream about the Phantom alot. I would probably look in the mirror and scream a little but I would never faint. Then I would probably turn around and face him and tell him that I love him. Or I would probably just pretend to faint just so he could carry me off to my bed.

I would probably not faint, but react violently, as I happen to do so when things frighten me. I could see me shoving/pushing/slapping/kicking or punching Erik, whether I really wanted to or not, and like running like a lunatic for safety, which would mean my room under my pillow clinging my giant teddy bear close to me.

Heh, yes, at 18 I still hug my teddy bear. He has served me well over the last few years... never once have I been attacked or hurt while he has been on watch duty. ^_^

Heh.

Well, for starters, like most girls in here , I'm not a fainter. but I'm not gonna go running and screaming either. What i would exactly do i really dont know, however i would stay because i'm addicted to the music. Where it goes from there is up to fate.

I've fainted...but only because I was really sick. I've never fainted because something scared me or took me by surprise.

But as others mentioned, the whole corset thing and Erik overwhelming her I don't blame her for fainting. It was too much for her.

I don't know what I would do but i'm 99.9% positive I wouldn't faint...scream - maybe but then again I wouldn't sing with a man behind a wall or follow him through a mirror...although...if he looked like Gerry...I might not care that he came through my mirror

I haven't worn a garment like Christine's, but I've worn a cincher when I attended various historical reenactment events. Trust me: Breathing can be tricky in those. I can understand how women of that period might have fainted in a stressful situation. Also, that is a time period in which women were exremely sheltered, so it probably did not take much to shock someone into fainting. Coming face-to-face with a lifelike figure of herself certainly had to be a shock, coming as it did after meeting her Angel and being taken to his lair.

Think of this: Even into the 1930s, women were fainting at films such as "Freaks" and "Frankenstein"! What we shrug off today (or at least go "Ewwwww!" to) would have shocked even the hardiest man not so many decades ago. Today's special effects would have been far too much for audiences of the past.

Place a virginal, Victorian-era girl in that setting. Of course, she fainted! One of the common phrases for it was "the vapors"; women often carried smelling salts for those times they felt faint.

Some of the answers made me laugh. The one girl that said she'd back up so far she'd fall into the lake really made me laugh, lol! Oh, geez, good stuff!

But let's see here: It's quite dark except for candle light, I'm wearing a tight corset, this masked man is singing to me and then unveils a mannequin that looks like me in a wedding dress. It then pops out as I get closer to look at it, scaring the hell out of me. Um, yeah, I'd probably scream, which then makes things hard to breathe from being in the corset and then I'd pass out. So, then yup, Erik would have to catch me and carry me to bed. :D

I've fainted twice but that was because I was ill. I've never fainted because I was scared, shocked or anything like that.
But if it was me...let me think of it logically...I'd probably gape stupidly @ the dummy for a few minutes but then hoping ever hoping that he'd catch. I'd probably pretend to faint and then when his arms were around me and quickly twine my arms around his neck and then kiss him. *giggle* {If I got up enough guts to do it that is.}

A_Single_Rose

I'm not the fainting type, really. Something like that would only make me jump, but not make me faint. But as Christine said, with a corset on when given such a fright, you may run out of air and just faint. I've always found fainting to be... silly, for lack of a better word. I can't imagine myself fainting from being scare, but I can kind of imagine myself fainting due to some sort of illness like Kaitlin did.

I'd jump back from the mannequin and pause for a moment to recollect myself before staring up at Erik questioningly. ("WTF?!")

I've only fainted once, and it felt like a liberation. Hummm falling in the arms of Erik *wondering*, that would be interesting. I've always admired Erik, so if he didn't seem insane I would marry him eventually. Since I'm a person that usually helps people with their problems I would talk to him and maybe help him. I'm not sure, but I know I can't help everyone.

or something like that.

Eyes growing wide, face going white.

I would faint from shear shock. I love the song (I love it SO much now) and like her I'd close me eyes and let his voice fill me taking his words to heart.... however if he showed me the dress and I was in Christen's place I'd be a little crept out and touched to.

It would be interesting to see why there would be a dress, but that would be sorta weird because I would exist in that time because I would be in China or some where there.

I've never really thought about it but you know it's just a thought, I wonder what the actresses think about when they perform this scene. What do they do, think, or remember, or think about. I'm not sure what method they would use, but I would the "magic If".

The Countess

People don't noramally faint of fright anymore. People used to faint in that era because of their corsets. A quick intake of breathe would cause you to lose oxygen and cause you to pass out. I don't wear corsets, so I doubt that any fainting would be involved.

As for the wedding dress, I would probably look at him strangley and just be like, "What the hell is this?" Then I would probably try to escape somehow at that point, which most likely wouldn't work. When it doesn't, I'll get some tea to calm myself. I probably would be more creeped out than anything.

I've nearly fainted...twice. Never got around to it really :p. The thing is both were due to extreme heat and in the second case a disgusting movie (Master in Commander..eww). But given the number of candles in Erik's lair and the sudden shock, I think that it would be highly probable that I would at least feel light headed and or faint. Not that I would of minded :biglaugh:. If I didn't faint I'd probably just blush . A lot.

I've only had once fainting incident in my entire life. I still don't know what exactly caused it, but I was in the shower when it happened.

If I were in Christine's shoes, I probably would've just jumped at the initial shock of the mannequin's sudden movement, and cling myself around Erik.

About corsets, I know those were fashionable back then, but how could one sing opera in one of those, when it's hard to even BREATHE in them?! If I had to sing Christine's high note at the end the titular theme while wearing a corset, I probably would've fainted there instead of near the end of MotN.

Hmmmmm...wow, never thought about that. If I were drinking, I probably would have done a spit take. If I were in that situation I think........I would have stared at the dress and pinched myself. Then I would have been somewhat disgusted at the fact that my vocal instructor had the hots for me, and had a dummy that looked like me and a wedding dress just my size. I probably would have either a) smacked Erik b) wipped out my cell and (god providing recepiton) called either the cops or Raoul c) Looked at him with the same sad eyes she looked at Raoul with on the roof and watched as Erik broke down and cried OOOORRR d) yanked his mask off as a distraction and ran off with the gondala LOL. There's also the somewhat slim possiblity that in the mood of the moment I thought it was sweet and wrapped my arms around him.

Kojinka
08-01-2009, 07:41 AM
Also, his voice would have me looking spell dazed, so when he reveals the dress, I'd have thought he magicked his mirror. When it moves, I'd freak out, thinking oh god! It's a mannequin! O_O Seriously, those things creep me out.

The Countess

I guess if he was singing that would be an entirely different matter. Since his voice is supposed to be the voice of an angel, I suppose I would be rather entranced. Then hopefully I would rememeber who he was and go for help. Why is the Phantom persuing me again? *eye roll*

Hidden Away
08-05-2009, 02:01 AM
Entranced...most definately. To me I just can't really put words to it...you know? It's something that you can only understand if you actually experienced it. Just like certain things in life. Don't assume, go for it and see..but in this case..assume!

The Countess
08-06-2009, 04:26 AM
It would also depend on what Phantom was singing to me. If it was Michael, Charles Dance, or Howard, I would sit back and watch the show. If it was Gerry...then I guess I'd really start calling for help. :P

Fun to imagine. I think, given the movie, I would have told him to find the priest quickly.:biglaugh:
Seriously, I doubt if I would have fainted. To my knowledge I have never done so. I would have wanted to know him a bit better, but i know i would have been as mesmerized as she was, and I probably would have helped him find that priest. There is just something so special about Erik.:tp6::kiss:

Hmmm...I'm not quite sure what I would have done. If I was in Christine's situation where the phantom had led me down to a lair under the opera house and come to stand in front of a mirror to see a very lifelike mannequin of me in a wedding dress...I probably would not have fainted but would have jumped and took a few steps back, turned to look at him wondering why he has a lookalike mannequien of me in a wedding dress. But I may well have fainted and then he would have had to catch me and carry me to bed.

Well, Erik's voice almost puts a person in a trance, so I don't believe I'd be really thinking much when I saw it. I'm a fainter myself, so I may have fainted. But honestly, since he was singing to me with that powerful voice, I'd be so under the spell that I wouldn't be affected in a negative way.
