View Full Version : Movies to Avoid

I saw this topic at www.three-tasks.com and wanted to start it here.

What movies did you really hate or think were boring or stupid?

Personally, I hated 'Open Water' and whoever said 'Jaws' and it in the same sentence was out of their mind!

This guy I know said all "Open Water" was two people who got left in the middle of the ocean and there's sharks. I haven't really seen any movies that I don't like, cause I avoid them althogether.

Personally, I hated 'Open Water'

I thought that movie was pretty lame too. I really though the shooting of it was poor, and not to mention the whole thing was just a bore. :O

Anyway, another movie I don't like is 'Van Helsing'. I thought it was really brainless...

Hrm. There's a lot.

Korean: "O Boy" or something like that... don't even do it!

There are a lot of movies that left me going 'WTF?' at the end of them... but I can't remember any at the moment.

I hate, totally hate "The Master of Disguise" There are probably worse movies...but it is still horrible.

I hate from Dusk to Dawn 2, it generally just sucked, and dagerous life of the altar boys did not make any sense.

Then there's also Dario Argento's movie which is crap.

Wow, I generally tend to like all movies I see... Lemme think for a minute...

OH! I absolutely HATE remakes of cool old horror movies! (See 'Amityville Horror' and some others I can't think of right now...)

There are a LOT more, but none I can think of at the moment...

Batman and Robin is probably the worst superhero film ever made. If you have any respect for Gotham's Dark Knight, skip this one and see either Batman, Batman Returns, or the new Batman Begins instead. I also thought Superman III and onward were pretty bad.

And I agree with Manda about remakes of good horror films. Or remakes of any good films, for that matter.

I didn't really like 'Ocean's 12'. My mom and my sister were going to see some kid movie with my sister's little person friend that I don't like, so i went to see that instead. Big mistake. It basically used Julia Roberts as a housewife who looks like Julia Roberts (?) and so they make her pretend to be herself in real life. I'm just sitting there going 'Wait, I'll figure this out. She's JR, pretending to be a housewife pretending to be JR.' It just lost me. Plus, it was one of those movies where you can pull off huge crimes and not be thrown in jail for life, and not even hear anything on the news about your crime.

I just didn't like it much.

I thought Ocean's Twelve was pretty good, actually, but maybe that's just me...

A movie I do despise, though, is Insomnia. I practically fell asleep watching it. I disliked it so much that I don't even remember what happened anymore. My mind has blocked the horridness of it out, I guess...

I watched the version of Jason where he's in the year 2465 or something like that. He was frozen in time and was defrosted by a power hungry space traveller. The older versions of Jason that were done were a lot better than this one. They actually had plot... basically all this one was teenage hormones and killing people for no reason.

IamErik771
06-26-2005, 07:03 PM
Yes, I think that one was called Jason X. I skipped it after seeing the trailer, which was awful. Now I know that I did the right thing. :D I did enjoy the other Jason films, though.

Countess Cain

I haven't seen it, but I'm going to say 'Son of the Mask' is one to avoid. The trailer almost made me have convulsions in the movie theater.

The Phantom
06-26-2005, 08:20 PM
Jason actually had a motive in the earlier movies to kill people. He drowned in the lake because the campers with raging hormones neglected him. That's a legitimate plot. But just to kill someone for no reason is stupid in a horror movie. I hated it.

I'm not sure of what the movie was called but there was this one scene I saw while flipping through the channels where this guy was "killing himself". He shot himself through the head and it was so cheasy. The blood was pink and before he slouched down his eyes were moving around. That's cheap. ;)

Cat in the Hat was really, really bad. I couldn't stand it. I thought Mike Myers was pathetic, not funny at all, and the story was just awfully done. There was so much crudeness in it that was not necessary. That movie was an absolute ruionation of one of my favourite Doctor Seuss stories.
It was a real waste of time- I don't even know if I got through it all, it ws so terrible.

'Eight Legged Monster' was THE dummest movie I have ever seen! It was painful, it was sooooooooooo bad!

Never, ever, ever watch it... its a huge waste of time!

By the way..... this is post #200 :D!

All Austin Powers movies are pretty bad. They are funny the first couple of times you see them but after a while they just get stupid. I was never a huge fan of Mike Myers anyway. I don't see why everybody thinks he's so hysterical. It also doesn't help that my two sisters AND my father all totally love these movies and are always doing impressions and quoting them.

Other movies I didn't like were The Master of Disguse, From Justin to Kelly (liked Justin, loved Kelly, didn't like the movie), Crossroads (Britney Spears isn't too bad but the movie was pretty bad), Son of the Mask, and On the Line. That really lame movie with Lance Bass from N Sync. Probably the worst out of all of these.

I'm actually pretty easy-going when it comes to movies though. Most people are very critical on movies but I just try to sit back and enjoy them without worrying too much about nitpicks and goofs. A movie has to be really horrible for me to not like it. And that doesn't come around too often, but when it does, it must REALLY be bad.

Fast and the Furious. One or two, doesn't matter. Hated 'em. In fact, whenever I read stories about buffed-up evil serial killers (I read those a lot...), I always picture Vin Diseal in the role. I really don't like the guy.

And Boogeyman. ::Shudders...and not out of fear...:: Despised it. Perhaps one of the worst "horror" movies ever made. Blah! Ick! ::Has no more words to describe revulsion of film::

Hee hee... as much as I liked Lance at the time this came (I still think he's a cutie) I'll admit this was a pretty corny movie.

Steer CLEAR of "Manos: The Hands of Fate". This was actually voted the worst movie ever by entertainment weekly magazine. Unless youy are watching the "Mystery Science Theatre 3000" version, don't ever watch it!!!

I loved both Ocean's 12 (though 11 was SO much better) and the live Peter Pan . . . but as for movies I didn't enjoy . . .

The third Harry Potter. I have a bad habit of muttering to myself about things they do "wrong" in movies, particularly movies that are about books I adore. I did not stop muttering throughout that entire show. Erggh. Talk about messing something up . . . though I probably should force myself through it a second time, just to be sure it was really as bad as I thought it was.

Also I couldn't stand Napolean Dynamite. I don't know if anyone else has seen or heard of this movie, but it made me cringe.

That's all I can think of for now, though of course these are just my opinions . . .

People have a lot of different opinions, but one that I simply could not stand and do not recommend to anyone is "Lost in Translation". I actually fell asleep and woke up an hour later. I still knew what was going on because practically nothing happened! It was such a pointless film, I can't believe Sofia Coppola got Best Original Screenplay oscar for that crap. Virgin Suicides she actually did a good job and that was adapted from an awesome novel.

Can't blame you for hating Titanic. I also kinda dislike the movie. The weird thing is that I totally am interested in the Titanic disaster story. Just that I started hating the Titanic movie because it focused too much on the fictional characters and missed out on all the real people. The only thing I can give that movie credit for is for sort of "re-igniting" the Titanic interest/obsession in me.

I hardly watch movies so most of the movies I watch are the ones that I kinda like. But there are always the exceptions. Like "Are we there yet?". Annoyed the heck out of me. In fact, most of the shows out there annoy me. I'm weird. (:

lol I was just about to mention BOTH of those movies. The 3rd movie was a disgrace to the book, and I cant believe Jk Rowling allowed it to be released!! I mean if I didnt love the books maybe it wouldnt have been such a bad movie, but the 3rd book is the 1st Harry Potter book I ever read back in 7TH GRADE (i just graduated highschool lol) and im very partial to it for that reason. They better not ruin the 4th book since it is my favorite

Napolean Dynamite was said to be amazing and hysterical and I found it neither. It was slightly funny at some parts but for the most part it was a waste of my time to watch

I'm going to start by saying Queen of the Damned, if you have any liking for Anne Rice you'll stay away from it. *grimaces* They got so many things wrong...I could rant about it for hours. If you want to see a movie based off the Vampire Chronicles, rent Interview with the Vampire. Much better.

Uhh...let's see...anything with Hilary Duff in it (ALL HER CHARACTERS ARE THE SAME. *growls*), and basically any sequel, now that I think about it. I really hope that the second (and third?) Pirates of the Carribean movies don't fall into the sequels pattern. >.>

The funny thing about the Harry Potter movies is that I really didn't like the first one all that much, bad acting, and then the second one had a good actor in it (the guy who played Tom Riddle - Christian Coulson), but the rest was really quite stupid and cheesy. The third one was a lot better but had a bad director. Maybe the fourth one will be better. *shrug*

Well the third Harry Potter bugged me a bit.... I LOVE HP and all the books and the movies before that, but this one got on my nerves with especially Hermiones hair. for some reason that just made me so mad, cause she has like perfect hair.... Unlike how the book describes and how in the new movies the Harry/Hermione pairing kinda thing, is kinda annoying. It was a big disgrace to the book. But I have to say the movie that I just dont care for most is the first Spiderman Movie... That I didn't like at all. The second one was ok, but I didn't like the first at all.

Oi... this is sad. I liked Open Water, Batman and Robin, Grinch, Napoleon Dynamite, and Ocean's Twelve. It's all just a matter of opinion, though. :)

I saw White Noise and I like it up until the end. It didn't explain anything at all. So if the end had tied things together a lot better then I definately would've liked it more. Up until the end it was really good, IMO.

Oh, I'm so surprised that no one has mentioned Seed of Chucky. I personally have not seen it (and now probably won't), but my best friend (who is scared to death of scary movies) watched it and laughed the whole time. Yeah, so it's apparently really bad.

I work at Hollywood Video (video store) so I hear a lot about different movies. A lot of people said that The Jacket sucked but I personally liked it. And a few said that Prozac Nation sucked, but I love that movie (and book).

Well, I hate most of the movies based on the comic books, except for X-Men. Spiderman was stupid, slept through the Hulk, Spideman 2 was cheesy but better than the first, I don't care for Batman, and I've yet to see Fantastic Four and have no desire to see it... But the X-Men movies are phenomenal.

Napolean Dynamite was pretty dumb. Tha first time I saw it, I was shocked I payed for it, the second time I watched it, I was busting out laughing, now the only thing remotely funny about it is Lafawnduh and Napolean's Skit for Pedro. And the Happy Hands Club, don't know why, but it's funny, I guess its because my brother and I can act it out and we look kinda retarded doing it...

50 First Dates had me puking.

Okay, how could you hate that? It's one of my favorite movies, along with the Wedding Singer. Personally, I L-O-V-E 99.9% of Adam Sandler's movies. I didn't like Spanglish, it confused me and wasn't funny like I thought it would be.

I also H-A-T-E the last two Harry Potter Movies. The third movie didn't follow the book like it should, and I tried to watch it from the POV of someone who's never read the books, and the 3rd one confused me. I loved the 4th book, and although the 4th movie was better than the third, it dissappointed me. I was falling asleep the second time I watched it. I swear, when I grow up, I'm gonna refilm all the HP movies and use the book instead of the script.

Umm movies to avoid, where in the world do you begin because the list is really long. I have to agree that the Cat in the Hat was terrable, and pretty much any Mike Myers movie. Also those cheap - low budget films are usually trash. Oh and forgien films - i have a real problem with them 98% of the time. I DESPISE DRACULA 2000!!!!! Gerard Butler may be one of the snexiest men alive, but that doesn't give him license to be in a bad movie!

It is:

*ahem*

1. Sex oriented. I'm not a prude, just make it tasteful, Hollywood!
2. A gorefest aimed at 20-something party animals. 'Nuff said.
3. Chock-full of bad acting, as well as very little comprehensible plot.

I do not despise this movie, but from what I heard about it I thought "The Break-up" was going to be this great movie with Jennifer Aniston and her boyfriend Vincent. But it just wasn't that good. It was more like a couple fighting over the apartment the whole entire time while Jennifer was trying to win Vincent back. But he didn't get it until almost the very end. And then when he wanted to work things out she decided to move on. Then they meet up by accident years later and it kinda leaves it where maybe they could get back together, but the way Jennifer left it kinda didn't seem as if they wouldn't. It just wasn't really funny, wasn't happy, and nothing good really came out of it. But maybe it's just me..i dunno? Sorry if anyone else liked this movie!

Heh, I have quite a list. Well, not really, but I feel very strongly about them. :p

1. NAPOLEON DYNAMITE. This movie pretty much ruined my life. I was stuck watching it on a bus ride to New York with my musical cast. For some reason, they let my best friend pick the movie, and he insisted on ND. And afterwards, I beat him with a pillow. *le sigh* I felt like I lost half my brain capacity.

2. Dodge Ball. Also a New York bus ride movie, except it was this year, not last year. And for some reason, even after the disaster of ND, they let the same guy pick the movie. I thought it was tasteless, more obscene than was necessary, and I loved Ben Stiller in Meet the Parents, but found him to be obnoxious and terrible in this.

3. Titanic. Titanic was good the first five times I saw it, because I was all about Leonardo DiCaprio. But now, it's too long, too annoying, and just not that good. And now, even Leo isn't enough to hold my attention -- now, if Billy Zane were front and center...

4. The Forgotten. That movie with Julianne Moore as the woman whose son dies, but then everyone is like "You never had a son, what are you talking about?" Ugh, so contrived, and incredibly stupid. Especially upsetting because it was one of those rare movies that I actually REALLY wanted to see, and it ended up being a bust.

5. Aladdin II: The Return of Jafar. Okay, so this one seems out of place, but I don't care. I hated it. It actually really freaked me out. Most Disney sequels fall under this same thing, actually. From The Lion King II: Simba's Pride to Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, most of them are mindnumbingly awful.

So yep, there's my list. *nod*

A few people here have mentioned that they hated "Lost in Translation". I actually thought that it was one of the most subtle and intelligent movies I had seen in a long time. As the story of a young woman discovering her self for the first time, I thought it was brilliantly executed. Though I think I am possibly one of the oldest of those posting here, so it may just be a different perspective due to age.

Movies I hate. Ahh... There are so many. Number one is tied between two movies I was forced to watch, "Sponge Bob", and "White Chicks" (I actually left my sister-in-laws house rather than watch more than 30 minutes of this one).

Number two, and I know that I am going to get stoned here for this one, was 2004's "ALW's Phantom of the Opera". I will not go into the million reasons why I hated this film.

I have to agree with all those who despised "The Cat in the Hat", and Jim Carey's version of "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas". Those were both Acid trips not worth taking.

I also disliked (though I think hate would be too strong a word), the third Harry Potter Movie. That was my favorite book, and I didn't think that the movie at all lived up to the general feel of the book. That book was always very sexy to me, and the movie just seemed dark and disjointed.

Other movies I hated: "Titanic"; "One True Thing" (totally depressing with no redemptive qualites at all); "The Green Mile" (I like Steven King in general, but this was another completely unredemptive movie); "Van Helsing" (Dracula was just way too over the top!); any movie staring a teenage pop star; "Must Love Dogs" (where was the chemistry people?!).

I'm sure there are many more that I am forgetting, but those are the ones that come to mind right now.

Now some great movies are, "Whale Rider", "The English Patient", "The Nightmare Before Christmas", "Batman Begins", "Lost in Translation" (like I mentioned before, I liked it), "The Secret of Roan Innish" (An Irish Children's Movie - Very Magical), and I always loved "Gladiator".

We're not reaching back very far, are we?

Some of the baddies on my list are:
Tentacles -- an absolutely dreadful "Jaws" ripoff with a remarkable cast in embarrassing roles

Meet the Fockers -- I pitied the cast! I didn't mind "Meet the Parents", but this...

At Long Last Love -- I couldn't even watch the whole thing. The only good line I can recall is John Hillerman's "Are you singing to me, sir?" Burt Reynolds and Cybill Shepherd in a musical comedy trying to capture the Astaire/Rogers films... Didn't happen!

The Creeping Terror -- Several people under an old carpet pretend to be the monster, which is sooooo slow that there's no way it could catch ANYONE! Most of the dialogue is done in voice-over. Rock-bottom low-budget that shows!

Wild Wild West -- CRINGE! If M. Emmet Walsh can't save a film... I felt so sorry for Kevin Kline and detested Will Smith!

Damnation Alley -- Considering it came out close to "Star Wars (IV)" and "Close Encounters...", it's a mega-insult to the genre and the novel it's supposedly based on! It's not even bad enough to be fun, as is "Plan 9 from Outer Space".

A Bridge Too Far -- a mistake of a movie about the worst mistake in WWII -- All those film greats in one big bomb is so sad.

Titanic -- the James Cameron one, which is so painfully anachronistic I had to try it in small doses

The Hulk -- It bears practically no resemblance to the Marvel comics. It was completely gutted!

all of the Friday the 13th films -- Jason drowned as a child! How could he come back as the killer? By the way, in the original, it's Jason's mother who is the killer because she thought the counselors were neglectful of their duties! So, where'd the invincible guy in the hockey mask come from?! Why is he called Jason? Was that ever explained?

Adam Sandler movies -- I despise the man! I have never been able to survive a single film; I always bail out.

Gladiator -- Roman emperors didn't get in the arena! And, the games went on much, much longer than the film led you to believe. Also, the digital work was extraordinarily poor.

most Will Ferrell and Mike Myers "comedies"

Napoleon Dynamite

Practically every animated film from Shrek, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo through The Incredibles, and they're still coming! These films are an insult to animation! I know I'll be slammed for this. I have watched each, hoping for some sense of wonder, and never found it, just the same stereotypes and sloppy art, as if everything has been doused in melted plastic and left to harden. I am no fan of this stuff! Much of it will fall by the wayside very quickly. Heck with "instant classic" statements! Most of these won't be remembered by next year!

Cabin Fever -- It's like one of those awful wrecks you can't stop watching and can't get out of your brain afterward! Graphic and distasteful, it definitely, as Stephen King wrote, went for the grossout.

remakes of classic horror films, such as "The Haunting", "13 Ghosts" (gimmicky and kind of cute--the original, that is), "House on Haunted Hill" and others
Sometimes the originals are low-budget and not very polished; but, they're a fun under-2-hours to spend, especially when Vincent Price is chewing the scenery. The only thing good about the remake of "The Haunting" is the amazing house! (OK, so, Liam Neeson is worth checking out.)

I shall return! (Oh no!)

Word Count: I don't know if this is considered in this thread, but, getzell, generally they want 20-plus words in a post, with no spam. So, it helps to add more detail. Let yourself ramble a bit. It can be fun!

I would have to add a few more awful/miss-it/don't bother movies here. There are sooo many that it's difficult to remember all of them. I love movies, but there are some truly awful ones:

Bubble Boy--Jake Gyllenhaal must cringe when this one gets shown. It looks more like something Adam Sandler would do.

King Kong--with future Oscar winners Jessica Lange (film debut) and Jeff Bridges
The animatronic King Kong wouldn't work except in a couple of shots, so much of the KK footage is Rick Baker in a gorilla suit! It's really awful! Jessica's character's name is Dwan, a model/actress who ends up discussing astrological signs with the King! Weirdly, KK ends up on the World Trade Center, not the Empire State Building. The robot Kong is used very few places in the movie, which cost a fortune but looks low-budget.

The Forgotten--Except for a couple of neat shots of people being yanked up into the sky, this film didn't deserve the attention it got when they were promoting it. It's rather pointless. It could have been done as an "Outer Limits" episode. I even watched the director's cut, which really didn't add anything. I wouldn't say it's a truly awful movie, but it's one that left me dissatisfied the two times I watched it (theatrical version and director's version).

Sorority Boys--I like Barry Watson, but I couldn't make it through this one. I was so embarrassed for the young actors; it is demeaning to them. The actors actually look very uncomfortable when they are doing some really degrading scenes. The one scene that IS cute is when Barry-in-drag braids the girl's hair. When he's finished, the braid sticks out horizontally! It's really a funny bit. The rest... YUCK! Nasty!

Again with the animated movies: Avoid open season. Horrible movie.

Avoid Poseidon (sorry, Emmy) It was gorey and horrible. I know it has Emmy Rossum in it but thats like the only pro, everything thing else is a con.

Um...too many!

First up, THE DISNEY SEQUELS. Every single one of them. Corny, unoriginal, just like a last ditch attempt to make money out of the characters. ESPECIALLY Pocohontas 2, which managed to destroy the original storyline by adding John No.2.

I agree with Christina about Poseidon. I was really disappointed, because I was looking forward to seeing it. About halfway through I realised it was rubbish. Despite Emmy. This was my friend's idea of a horror movie to watch on Halloween *groan*.

An old movie of Oliver Twist made by Roman Polanski. It's a disgrace to itself and to the book (which may I add, is wonderful). The most important stuff in the book (Rose, the whole Oliver's half-brother scenario, Oliver's history) was left out. There isn't even a proper reason why Fagin wants to keep hold of Oliver so much! The film's just about this creepy little kid who keeps getting kidnapped by pickpockets for no apparent reason.

ESPECIALLY Pocohontas 2, which managed to destroy the original storyline by adding John No.2.

The reason they did that was because historically Pochahontas may have saved John Smith's life, but actually really did marry John Rolfe upon coming to London. *smirks wrily* I suppose it was just Disney's way of saying that they actually were being historically accurate.

Yes, but if they were being truly historically accurate, they could have avoided romance altogether in the first film. But ohhhh no, they had to make Pocohontas fall in love with two guys in two films. It just kinda ruins the whole 'I love you forever and ever and ever' thing in the first movie.

So, if she saved John Smith's life, they could have become good friends, he brought her to London, and there she met John No.2, who she fell in love with and married.

Avoid MOST Disney Channel Original movies, Except Genius, thats good. But I mean things like Cadet Kelly, The Lizzie McGuire Movie, Shorty mcShort-shorts.... You know, things like that. They are lame and have the same plots (practically).

I really liked the OLD Disney Channel Movies (Like Genius, Phantom of the Megaplex, stuff like that) but stuff that has come out in the last 3 years suck majorly. I agree with Chrissy, they all have the same plot.

The worst movie I have EVER seen was Bicentennial Man, with Robin Williams as the robot. Horrible... Me and my mom walk out the theater halfway through and I've still never finished it! Also, even though I enjoy the Harry Potter movies, they are pretty bad in comparison with the book, but if you haven't read them, you're confused. I also though Shrek 2 was pretty bad, even though I did the first!

Lets see if I can think of a few. I apologize if they have already been said once...Wow, I can only think of three off the top of my head.

-Dude Where's My Car...it was pointless, stupid, and not even funny.

-Dario Argento's The Phantom of the Opera....I watched this movie and I actually made it all the way through, laughing and disgusted. I mean, raised by rats??? It was just absurd.

-Robert Englund's Phantom of the Opera...I watched the first thirty minutes of it and then turned it off. In that time, Monsieur Le Fantome had killed eight guys and raped a girl. "Tonight, your name is Christine!" And sewed skin onto his face.

Daddy Dare care, Daddy Day camp. Stupid, stupid movies and I can't see why so many people like it and why anyone would want to be in it.

Are we there yet? and Are we done yet? What is the movie even about? I've seen them and they are lame.

In her shoes. I thought I would like it, but the plot was a little weird and parts of it were REALLY cliche. Sorry if y'all liked it. Its my opinion (Same goes with the above movies as well).

For me, I happen to like a lot of Dakota Fanning movies (Man on Fire, Hide and
Seek) BUT CHARLOTTE'S WEB AND UPTOWN GIRLS WERE AWFUL. Now, MAYBE I could let Charlotte's Web slide since it followed the book (and still managed to drop the song "the Dung in the Dark..."......enough said. But Uptown Girls was distasteful and stupid. The acting was pitiful!

I despise the Spider Man movies; but the third one in comparison blew the first two out of the water.

The only good things about The Forgotten:

1 proves that a mother's love rocks
2 you get to see people ripped from the ground and snatched up into the sky

Now............................................... .................................................. .

NEVER WATCH EXCALIBUR. I believe it is from the 60s or 70s, and I only watched some of it because it was really one of the only movies in my uncle's collection that I hadn't seen and sounded interesting. Needless to say, my uncle hadn't seen it either...OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE BEEN SPARED THE DISGUST BEFORE I RIPPED IT OUT OF THE DVD PLAYER. It was practically a PORNO! There was ABSOLUTELY NO POINT. It wasn't even an excuse of a film! I NEVER WILL SEE A SECOND MORE THAN THE 15 MINUTES I SUFFERED THAT TIME.
.................................................. ...............................................
The Halloweentown movies are corny. Mulan 2 sucks AND Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was just disturbing...reminding me throughout the whole movie of Michael Jackson....*enough said*
I dislike most of the Star Wars movies, simply because my psycho EX step dad made me endure them throughout my young childhood. Although I never finished the 3rd one.

Daredevil....the concept of a blind hero that kicks butt and meeting another girl that does the same is very nice. But the rest is stupid. They tried to over dramatize the rest WAY TOO MUCH.

Hunchback of Notre Dame 2...enough said: it's a Disney Chanel Sequel. Also, I really didn't care for The Day After Tomorrow. The only good thing in it was Emmy.

Um, hello? Anybody here? Good, because I'm gonna make a list of the "Hollywood's Worst of the Best"!

Man, I'm gonna get killed for this. . . . .

1) "Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds": Ok, I admit that the concept of a bunch of birds flying around aimlessly everywhere is kinda freaky, but what are they gonna do, poot on ya? Seriously. LAME!

2) Anything else by Alfred Hitchcock: (Yes, this includes "Psycho") I tried sitting through his movies. Honestly I did. And I just kept getting bored. . .

3) "ET": Corny, cheesy, and it didn't help that I saw this movie shortly after my father died. The whole scene with ET magically coming back to life was a real turn off for me at the wake of my father's death.

4) "Jaws": Boring.

5) "Jurassic Park": The only good thing that came out of Jurassic Park were the cool computer and video games. They were awesome.

6) (I'm gonna get smitten for this one) "The Silence of the Lambs": Only really picked up towards the end. The fact that I was very tired the day I watched it might have effected things alot.

7) "Return of the Jedi": The Ewoks scenes were boring.

Next up, my list of the worst of the worst!

Uhhhhhh, yeah, as a mod I just smote you. Do not watch Silence of the Lambs when you are tired, because not only is it one of (if not the) greatest films of all time, it is also complex, so your brain needs to be awake. It swept the Oscars (five wins: Best Actor/Actress, Director, Screenplay, AND Picture), and it launched Anthony Hopkins into the stardom he so rightly deserves. Please, please, please, for the sake that all that is holy, watch it again when you can appreciate it.

Because it is godly.

I'll overlook it this time. Next time Silence of the Lambs comes up on this thread, I may need to go crazy fangirl on your collective tuchuses. Carry on.

Urgh two films I hope to NEVER see again:

Perfect Storm - it was a stormy night...they were on a boat. You figure out what happens next. Three guesses.

and...my other least favourite film ever known to mankind -

Lake Placid - uhh what? Okay, so there's a crocodile/alligator (I forget which) in the waters around an isolated house? Then steer clear of going in/near the damn water. You know it likes eating human flesh? Don't fricking go near it! Psssh, stupid concept and boring film. I think I fell asleep during this one...o.O

Van Helsing: God this was ****. I don't even want to think about it. Posting all the reasons I have for disliking this movie would take me a full three days so I'll just stick with: There will never be a more badass Van Helsing than Peter Cushing and this movie has absolutely nothing to do with Dracula, Frankenstein or the Wolfman.

I say people should avoid "I Am Legend" if they have happy, upbeat personalities. I, personally, loved the film. I took it to heart. My best friend, meanwhile kept laughing at the most vital moments of the film. If you are prone to doing this, I beg you not to go. You'll either be depressed walking out of the movie or you'll be laughing your face of if you aren't in the right frame of mind. I loved it. I got really into it. But, still. I thought I'd issue a warning to all sane (or optimistic) people.

"The Invisible", "Bug" (In a way, it was ok), "Hot Fuzz" (a disappointment), "The Ring"...

Funny thing: The Invisible has become one of my favorite movies. And I don't just mean "I like it a lot right now but when something else comes along it'll bump it out of my top favorites" favorite. I mean it's right up there with Better Than Chocolate and Velvet Goldmine as one of my favorite movies EVER. I know a lot of people didn't like it - and I'm not saying their opinions are wrong - but I just don't understand why.

A movie that I really didn't like was Juno. I know it got some Golden Globe nominations and whatnot, but... well, let's just say I had to leave before it ended coz of the stupid driving laws here in NJ and it was almost midnight, and I have no intention of going back to find out how it ends. A) The music was obnoxious (in my opinion). If I can't stand the music, chances are the movie would have to be amazing beyond belief in order for me to overlook that. B) The plot was boring. And slow-paced. Dude, if you wanna hold my attention, make something interesting happen! The only scenes I even remotely enjoyed were the ones where Juno was alone with whatshisname the future father guy. C) QUOTES PLEASE! I can't even remember one particularly memorable line from the entire movie! Even with movies I don't like, I can generally find one redeeming quote, but not in Juno.

I could go on and on about why I dislike this movie, but I won't bore you.

The Birds! Freaky, but incredibly stupid. And where's the ending? No ending? Oddly enough, everytime this comes on, my family somehow ends up watching it. My mom was telling me about how it scared her and my aunts and uncles when it came out, and by the time it was over, she was exclaiming that she didn't remember it being that stupid.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World(Long. Long and Boring), The Cell, Bride of Frankenstein, Dario Argento's Phantom of the Opera(Straight porn- and WTF about the Phantom not even having a facial deformity?!), Artificial Intelligence (I thought this movie was going to be so great- then it wasn't.), A History of Violence (Once again- kept waiting for it to get good- it didn't.), House of Flying Daggers, The Promise, Curse of the Golden Flower, Dracula 2000(I tried to like this- and I kind of dig the whole Judas-Dracula concept, but I just couldn't like this movie), The Cherry Orchard, Washington Square, Mystic River (I just don't know how Sean Penn beat Johnny Depp and Jude Law for the Oscar that year, cause this movie was terrible), Glitter (Bad. Bad beyond description.), Spiderman 2 (Too long, not enough substance- 1st and 3rd ones were MUCH better), You Got Served (I'm always annoyed by these movies with the hip hop artists who are trying so desperately to break into acting, when really, they can't.), The Libertine(This was a bad movie, but with good acting, if that makes any sense. Not just by Johnny either, but other people too- except Samantha Morton, her character was annoying.)

There's others, but I think I've listed enough for now. So yeah, stay away from these movies- they suck.

Avoid the film "Earth Girls Are Easy". I'm not sure how we got to watching it the other day, but somehow, my sister, mother and I wound up watching this film about this chick who's about as smart as a rat's hind end, her best friend who's even dumber, and three alien guys trying to fit in (and seemingly succeed). It was classified as "PG" and "Musical". But it was just... freaky.

I really liked the storyline of Titanic but the casting is what bothered me...Kate Winslet was dazzling but I'm sorry, Dicaprio is supposed to be this worldly traveler who spent time painting prostitutes in Paris and he looks barely old enough to shave! Give me a break! I hate to say it but Winslet's fiance was more appealing than Leo!
I wouldn't say avoid it, but like a lot of other good movies it suffers from miscasting.

I'm pretty much the biggest Juno fangirl that ever walked the earth, so I have to talking about Juno here because Shadow trashed it so hard ;)

A) I think that your point about the music was superfluous because music is always a personal preference. Always always always. I personally thought that the music was awesome and extremely well fitted to the movie (so much so that I haven't bought the movie yet because I'm trying to find one of the copies with Juno's Music attatched). So I don't think that's a fair basis to tell people not to see a movie on :p

B) Plot was not boring! It was a little slow paced, but it didn't really feel like it because she was so hilarious throughout the film. There was certainly plot, though: 16 year old is faced with an unplanned pregnancy and is trying to find the perfect parents to adopt the baby that she decides she won't abort. And it shows how she tries to get to know them, and how everything is affecting her. It's the story about a girl going through all of this.

C) XD SO. MANY. QUOTES. I don't want to list any because that'll take away from when people do see the movie, but there most certainly are. Go on imdb.com and look at Juno quotes.

I'm kind of iffy about Juno. It had it's adorable moments and I laughed, but it seemed a bit forced. Too willfully quirky. What really made the movie, I think, was Ellen Page. I've been a fan of hers since Hard Candy (disturbing but excellent film) and she really is a terrific actress - able to pull off what could have been a stereotype and turned it into a character with depth. She's one of the few fresh faces in Hollywood with any major talent, in my humble opinion. But I have sort of a love/hate relationship with the movie. Sometimes it's cute...and sometimes it's a big gallon of syrup poured down the throat.

I'm kind of say that Curse of the Golden Flower, House of Flying Daggers, Mystic River, A.I. and Star18's other picks got mixed in with...Glitter. *shudder* That's just cruel. As for many of those movies, I' say they range from decent to amazing. And sorry to all Johnny fangirls, but Sean Penn wipes the floor with him when it comes to acting. It's bloody Sean Penn. The man is famously emotive and profound as an actor. Not to say Depp isn't extremely talented...he's just not at Penn level yet.

As for Wicker Man, highly recommended. Both of them actually. The first because it's a strange and haunting film unlike any other I have seen. It's remake, however, is the single funniest movie...ever. Nicolas Cage gets my respect as a comic actor. Just watch this!

LAWLS. Mack, I think we're the same person. I agree that Sean Penn is bloody fabulous, and Mystic River was completely epic. Tim Robbins is such a win. I mean, Shawshank Redemption? Srsly folks. He's a god among men. (Nudge nudge, go rent Bob Roberts.)

Aaaaand Wicker Man. Oh. My. God. Funniest movie in the history of comedies. I despise Nicolas Cage with every fiber of my being, but this just pushed it over the edge for me and kind of came around to the other side of the spectrum. Like, now I hate him so much that I love him for being so horrible. Lawls lawls lawls.

And Juno is lovely. Yup.

Anyways...movies I can't stand. All those Epic Movie/Date Movie/Vaguely Melodramatic With a Bit of Cynical Humor Movie/etc were craptastic. Blah. I was severely disappointed with I Am Legend too (no offense, Cassie :)), if only because the zombies were SUPA!lame and the ending made no sense to me whatsoever. The only redeeming bit was the first time you saw the zombies and they were all crowded in that little circle...then they just got progressively worse. Sad.

Movies to avoid:
My Girl. It has a bad flow to it and the ending is depressing. Everyone says the movie is so fnny, but the poor little girl grows up a funeral home for Pete's sake! She's so morbid and the humor isn't roll out of your chair funny. I think the "humor" in there only deserves one laugh, if not none at all.

Alvin and the Chipmunks.
It's has a very funny parts but I don't think Jason Lee did his best acting in that movie. And I was enraged mostly by the characters. I didn't like really any of them.

I think alvin and the chipmunks were relatively cute, and just plain aodrable! The movie was a bit of a let down, but I think it's mainly directed at kids, because of the predictable plot and settings.

Movies to avoid: Epic movie and Scary movies. They are just plain stupid and time wasting. There is no point in them at all.

Personally, not that I am trying to disagree with anyone because everyone is different and has different opinions, I think the My Girl movies are classics. Sure it is morbid and a bit depressing, but I think the point of the movie is to see how much she grows from the beginning of that movie to the end. If you haven't seen the sequel, I recommend it. Its great and it expands on alot of stuff that they don't have time to put in the first movie, such as what happened to her real mother.

I loved Juno. I am not arguing that it was different, even I was a little iffy about it the first time I saw it but once it gets moving, the plot gets good. "This is one doodle that can't be undid homeskillet." It's those little lines that really make the movie. I mean, its a very realistic movie about something that happens so often in today's world.

But onto the what this thread is about, some of the worst movies I have ever seen: Definitely Scary Movie/Epic Movie/all others similar to that. I mean its cool to see them mock other movies, but overall, they have no plot and are just stupid. There are movies out there that are funny and have an actual plot. I prefer them instead thank you. Most movies with Will Ferrel in them are a no no. There are a few I can tolerate: Bewitched was good but only because of Nicole Kidman and Kristin Chenoweth, Talledega Nights, which is so stupid but I actually enjoyed that one, Stranger than Fiction was actually great because he played a rather serious part. But past those, I'd say no, don't bother.

I'm not a big fan of Horror movies because (This is kind of a stupid reason, especially since I'm 19,) but I'm always afraid I'll get nightmares if I watch them. So, I figure better safe than sorry.

The only 4 horror movies I can watch and not be scared by are: The 1989 and Dario Argento versions of "POTO", Wes Craven's New Nightmare, and Freddy Vs. Jason.

I'm also not a huge fan of natural disaster movies. Hate those.

I have a lot of movies I hate and/or dislike, but the big one is: The Perfect Storm. I watched that a few years ago at my uncle's and something about it scared the crap out of me and from then on, I vowed I would never watch it again and never have.

I hate to say this. I really hate to say this. He's my favorite actor both on Broadway and on the screen so you have no idea how much it pains me to say this about my beloved Patrick Wilson, but...

Never, I repeat, NEVER watch Evening starring Patrick Wilson, Claire Danes, Natasha Richardson, Meryl Streep, and Hugh Dancy. It... sucked. The acting was good, of course, I mean, stellar cast, but the movie.... ew. What was the director on? And the writers? What were they doing behind camera? Sniffing glue? The whole thing felt like... ugh. Drugged up.

And I just finished Passengers. Again, great acting. Wonderful acting! Patrick Wilson and Anne Hathaway! I mean, c'mon! talk about chemistry! They were amazing in this film. It was better than Evening. I'd even go so far as to call it mediocre. But not a must-see. Its sad when you see wonderful actors in pointless films. I hate seeing talent be wasted on such films.

I got that off my chest. Phew. Again, hate to say it, but its the truth.

Two movies I suggest you avoid:

Guys and Dolls- As much as I love Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando, and old, classic movies, so many things went wrong with that movie. It was just... no. Sorry.

Ballet Shoes- I'm an Emma Watson fan. Not the best actress, but she isn't bad at all. I'm actually a big fan. It had my three passions in it: singing, acting, and dance. It took place in one of my favourite cities: London, but the movie was just a big, whopping fail. It was like the writers were all "hmmm. We have one lose end. Lets through this dead man in there to tie up all the lose ends. YAY! OH! They'll get married and voila, credits!"

Chrissy, I think the problem with Guys and Dolls is bad casting. The Skye Masterson part should have gone to Frank and someone else should have played Nathan Detroit. Dean Martin maybe? Marlon Brando was a great actor, there's no denying it, but a singer he was NOT.

As for my pick of worst movies? I though National Treasure was a complete waste of time. So juvenile and it could have been really good. The plot was intriguing but the movie was badly played out.

Another one I will avoid in future at all costs: Avatar. Sorry, but I like movies about real people and I can only take CGI in VERY SMALL doses. Avatar just looked bad to me...like a computer puked all over everything. The "plot" was pretty shallow and predictable too.

I have to disagree with you. A movie with Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando is a great idea (and many actors and actresses in musical films from that era had... interesting voices), but the movie was so lacking in so many components, it was just hard to swallow. On stage, it's fairly good. I mean, the music is pretty forgettable and repetetive. The plot is good. But the movie was just... no. Although Frank had the voice, his acting was poor in this particular movie (that's not the case in other movies of his, but I digress). And did you see the opening of that film? I'm very well acquainted with old movies, and I haven't seen anything quite like that. And may I point out that Frank was considered for the role of Skye, but it was given to Marlon Brando because he was such a big box office hit? Brando was such a fantastic, good looking actor, he was given the role in a heartbeat, regardless of singing chops. Frank, vocally, should've played Skye, but his acting was wooden in this film. I mean the role of Nathan is pretty wooden in itself. I've never really seen an astounding performance of Nathan, even by the best of actors. I think the movie was just bad in general. Just my opinion, you're welcome to your own.

Getting back on topic; recently, my sister and I watched "The Worlds 50 Worst Movies" or a title similar to that. And, let me be the first to tell you, those movies belonged on there. There were movies such as Santa Claus Conquers the Martians and Glen or Glenda. And how could we neglect to put Eegah and The Troll on here?

More recent movies to avoid; I Know Who Killed Me. There are two things about this movie that scream "BAD MOVIE!!" One, Lindsay Lohan and Two, seven Razzie nominations. 'Nuff said on that.

This may have already been said, but for me, one of the worst movies I've EVER seen is Serenity. Jeez, I don't even remember who was acting in it. From what I heard, it was based off of a sci-fi TV show. Anyways, there was really no plot, nothing was explained as it should have been, and the acting was so-so. It just felt so tedious and discombobulated.

Personally, I loved Batman and Robin, and that's because I adore Poison Ivy, and I like the way Uma Thurman played her. As for Superman, yes III was kind of bad, but I'm also biased on those movies because I love Christopher Reeve, and adore Superman. Then again, I like movies that people don't seem to like. Like Spiceworld. Back in the day, I liked their music, and as corny as that movie was, I thought it was fun.

As for movies I avoid, usually ANYTHING made by Lionsgate Films. I recently watched "The Last Excorcism" and was promptly disappointed. the movie was shot like a documentary, and it was just bad. There are more, but I'm drawing blanks right now.

VERY SMALL[/B] doses. Avatar just looked bad to me.... The "plot" was pretty shallow and predictable too.
Agreed.
Twilight hovers somewhere between bad and mediocre. I don´t HATE it, except photography, which seemed to be shot through sickly greenish grey lenses. Uglee.
I tried to watch Scary movie sequel (I don´t remember the number and I doubt that matters) and stopped. Jokes were stomach-churning... what a cesspool!
Speaking of cesspools: torture porn. Don´t get me wrong, there´s some really great stuff under the Horror label... but I can´t stand any sick stuff.

All of the Twilight movies. 'Nuff said.

Nine. I have never been so offended by a movie in my whole life! I'm fully supportive of women who are proud of their sexuality and like to express it in whatever way they can, but this movie was just plain exploitative! Every woman is portrayed as either a sex-crazed fangirl or a stereotypical mother/wife-figure and I hated that!

Marie Antoinette. I just felt like Sofia Copolla didn't take the history of Marie Antoinette seriously enough and how am I supposed to relate to a character that I hate? She wasn't sympathetic at all, she was just a brat!

All of the parody movies! Scary Movie, Date Movie, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, Vampires Suck, etc. I sat through one and I actually felt my IQ dropping whilst watching it. Maybe it's because slapstick just isn't my thing and too much of it just hurts me, but oh my god, when will these guys give up?

I wouldn't avoid Lionsgate, though, 'cause Hard Candy, Kick-Ass and Repo! were actually really good movies and they ARE adapting The Hunger Games, which earns my respect.

Digging this thread out of the vaults to warn against a really bad movie I just watched: Case 39 with Renée Zellweger and Bradley Cooper. Totally totally awful. In general my opinions for movies—particularly "horror" movies—are dependent on the ending, and Case 39's ending was craptacular. I'm entirely on the fence about Renée (loved Chicago and Bridget Jones, dislike most of her other movies), but she didn't bring anything to the table for this piece of crap. Woefully miscast, terribly slow-moving, and the worst part is that I think they could have done something pretty cool with the plot.

My opinion? Avoid at all costs.
