How do your parents, siblings, or kids treat your POTO obsession? Are they Phans as well? Do they at least tolerate it? Or do they tell you to shut up whenever you start singing Music of the Night? Vent about it here! :D
My parents, sister, and brother-in-law are all Phans. My sister had been a Phan since she was 12, and I'm still upset that she never let me in on it. :( I converted both of my parents with the film, the OLC recordings, and the 1992 Japanese recordings. :)

Well, my Maman's a phan, too, but mainly because of Gerard Butler. She smiles when I mention POTO. My dad, however, thinks it's unhealthy -- that it's harming me somehow. I know it is not. Why on earth would he think so?

Thankfully, my family is quite used to me having all sorts of obsessions. They just think that it's a pasing phase and that I'll get out of it as quickly as I got into it. However, I don't think phases last for 7 1/2 years. I have been obsessed/interested in the Titanic disaster for that long. lol.

My parents liked the movie, though I don't live with them anymore so I don't know what they'd think if they knew about my obsession. My dad would probably roll his eyes at me. lol.
However my sister thinks I'm crazy. She always rolls her eyes at me and couldn't understand why I wanted to use dad's computer to screencap POTO.

My parent's don't know how obsessed I am. They don't know why I spend so much time online. They think I'm talking to my school friends. If they had any idea how much time I spend on PoTO, they'd lock me up. My sister's a phan too, but not as much as I am. But she does keep trying to steal my CD.

My mom, I think, believes that it's all just a phase of some sort. I've been asking her to watch the movie, but she just shakes her head... She never really takes interest in most of the stuff I'm into. However, she does like to listening to 'The Phantom of the Opera' song. (I guess because it sounds so '80s-like.) I'm used to how she treats my fandoms, though, so it's no big deal.
My dad doesn't really know how much I like it, I don't think. O_o; He just looks at my CDs sometimes, hears me listening to the music, and all. Of course, he never bothers me about the stuff I like, no matter what it is. I'm so glad about that. :) He'll help me get stuff, too. Squee. Daddy love. <3
My little sister just likes to pick on me. "Hehe, Susan likes Erik!"

Well, my mom and my sister both love it, but they're not as fanatical as I am. All three of us like to sing along with the soundtrack, but I'm the only one of the three that watches the movie over and over (and in French, ha!), pursues it online, and looks for other versions to listen to. My dad and brother are completely oblivious, which is nice. :)

My mom was the person who got me started on my obsession by introducing me to it. She likes it, but is not willing to watch it every day like I am. My dad thinks it is okay, but he doesn't really care, and my brother says he completely hates it, but I catch him every once in awhile singing/humming Masquerade.

My mum HATES it! Whenever i am at home i dont stop singing songs from the musical. I talk about it whenever i open my mouth, and i keep asking her and dad to print off posters and pictures for my room. They are both really tired of it, but my mother is far more.. open... about her irritation:)

My mom used to want to see POTO very badly, but since I got into it and listen to the soundtrack(s) non-stop, she says she has lost her desire to see it. :(
And my little sister thinks that opera sucks... (But she likes rap, so I don't listen to her opinion. I mean, how much talent does it take to sit there and talk fast? I do that all the time! :P)

Since a bunch of you are saying that your relatives don't like it... I will say that my dad doesn't like listening to it all. XD So, I don't get to hear it very often when he's in the car with me... He often says he can tolerate my Japanese music, but not my 'opera'. ;) But he respects it, still. XP

Yeah well both my parents were nagging me very much about it in the start, because I listened to the soundtrack all the time, and I went to see the movie four times and I read gaston Leroux and Susan Kay's books. They thought it was unhealthy, but after I had a huge fight with them they seemed to accept that there was nothing they could do to get me of it.
We've made a truce about it, I mostly listen tot the soundtrack on my discman and I don't talk that much with them about it. Sooo....
But I think they're kindda glad for it as well, because my passion for singing has sparked again after this and I've fianlly joined a choir, which they've wanted me to do for ages.

My dad has no interest in POTO at all, and doesn't really notice my obsession. My sister doesn't hate it, but I think she dislikes it - but she does like Gerry, a bit. I'm not sure about my mum - she wanted to see the film, and I think she likes the music, but she thought the film was way too long and seems to not like it anymore.

Well my mom and dad and aunt and uncle and grandparents have all seen the stage production and they have been Phans since! i have just now seen the film and i am in love with the movie and the whole concept. it's just so brilliant! my friend who introduced the phantom to me said that she has watched it so many times that he mom and dad can't stand to hear the word Phantom in their household! her brother is also terrified. my sister can't see the reason why i love it so much and my parents are kinda sick of my talkin about it all the time...but who cares? I'm a Phan!

My little sister is obsessed with PotO, and sometimes she goes around the house singing the songs. But then my dad starts making fun of it and yells "Christine! Christine!" and then I have to tell him to shut up. He did the same thing when I was in my Tiatnic phase except he went around the house yelling "Come back! Come back!" and then start making weird noises like whistles. lol. My twin sister thinks I'm crazy and need to go back being obsessed with Titanic and be more obsessed with Harry Potter. My mom doesn't know I'm obsessed. My brother sees me go on TPO and says 'Whats so cool with Phantom of the Opera? Phantom of the Oprah. You know what I'm gonna call you? Oprah, cause you like Phantom of the Oprah!" So thats how my family is. :D

My mom is exactly the opposite of me, I like Erik and she favors Raoul. So we war over who was right and who deserved who. My dad ignores me if I bring it up so I dont mostly. Latley my mom just says to shut up if I start on somethingabout PotO.

Well I would first like to start off by saying who cares if I'm obsessed? My mom liked the movie when she first saw it but now she is getting anoyed with me talking so much about it. My dad makes fun of me and the movie, my brother says he hates it infront of people but watches it with me all the time in secret. At least I have one friend who loves the whole concept as much as me, we never shut up about it. Just wait untill I see the actual musical! They will really send me to the nut house then lol! " No Compassion Any Where," for my obsession(just kidding)

Well...I am majorly obsessed and my mom knows it. I don't think she really cares though. She watched the movie with me once and thought that the Phantom is hot (and I second that) and that it was ok but the music sounds like it repeats the same thing over and over and that Emmy Rossum is pretty but that she's a bad actor (not much expression on her face in parts).
I don't think my dad notices and I'm not really around my brothers enough for them to care. And since I'm at dance camp--->I lead my hall all of the time in the phantom's choir. "Christine, Christine, Where in the world", etc. is the song we sing most often. Think of me comes in a close second though. :) Just another reason why arts schools are pretty cool at times.

07-10-2005, 08:03 PM
My little sister only really like PotO because of Gerard Butler, but she likes the music, too, so if I suddenly burst into song, she deals with it by singing along, too.
My parents are used to me behaving strangely. They just roll my eyes when they see me readig PotO again...and yell at me to shut up if I start yelling out the chorus to "Masquerade".

I have been obsessed with the Phantom of the Opera since I was 11, and my whole family has since shared the thought that I am completely nuts. My grandfather is the only one who tolerates my obsession, as he is quite fond of Andrew Lloyd Webbers compositions, and my grandmother acted as Christine in a Phantom of the Opera film back when she was in the zenith of her youth, so she isn't opposed to my phandom, but she doesn't like it either; as a matter of fact, she regards it as a part of my generall madness! xD
I don't, however, live with my grandparents anymore. I now share living quarters with my 18 year old cousin who is not exactly pleased with my phandom. She is quite the antagonist of classical music and thus the idea of listening to the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack 24/7 is certainly not an appealing one to her xDDD. My youngest sister, aged 10, has repeatedly attempted to understand my phandom, but she finds it very hard to concentrate on either the soundtrack to the musical, the book, or the 1924 Lon Chaney film. I shall not be discouraged, though! She will be a phan sooner or later! *rubs hands evily, scheming a mischevious plot* hee hee.

My mom and dad they know I love it. But they don't mind if I blast my cd or read it. My mom saw the movie a couple times and she loves it, we were both crying at the end and my dad came in and just rolled his eyes but he said that he'll take to to see the stage play again. But whenever I play the songs on the piano or my saxophone they call me The Freak but I don't mind cos they're just teasing me =P. But they like it, I can catch my mom singing All I Ask of You sometimes ;)

My parents know all the music by heart from working but I know they're sick of the music. They know I'm obsessed and don't really pay much attention to it. They gave me all their old props and buy me a few things too. They don't like the movie beacuse Gerard Butler is supposedly too sexy to be the Phantom and the altered the story line.

I don't think my grandma has any problems with me loving Phantom of the Opera so much. She hasn't told me to stop or to quit obsessing over the music lol. If anything its some of my peers that thinks that Phantom of the Opera is better suited for girls. That's just the closed minded people, which I despise.

Me whole family is nutz about the Phantom of the Opera. We droped everything to go to the play when it came Detroit in March. My sister in law is the same, however, my brother could care less (even POTO) I would have thought he would have liked it because of story line. HE FELL ASLEEP!! Anyways, most of my family loves it. We will always listen to music whenever we are able to and not busy..lol.

My parents and sister don't understand my obsession at all, and I don't even try to talk to them about POTO because I get blank stares back lol. My husband tolerates it, and actually has taken an interest...or at least I think he has. He listens to me babble about POTO and me listening to the soundtrack nonstop for months in my van. :D

Well, I have a very large famiy. My mum and dad both think it is rather funny. Like, my dad saw my email address was cintyphantomphan and burst out laughing. They don't mind. Even though my dad hates anything by Andrew Lloyd Webber, he's good with it, and same with my mum.
My sister loves it too. She has the dvd, the movie recording and the OLC recording. However, even though she has all these things she's not nearly as obsessed as me. Like, I don't have that much money, so she just buys the things and I borrow them off her. I basically keep the OLC cd in my room. :D I also download heaps of Phantom stuff off the net and am on heaps of boards, but she isn't.
One of my brothers hates Phantom and another one loves it. And the rest of my sisters just think it's pretty good, dont' mind it but dont' think it's that great.
So I guess that sums it up.
Oh and my tiny little twin sisters sing Phantom all the time cos I play the cd so often. :P hehe.

My mom has officially cut me off from the Phantom. She took my DVD and hid it somewhere. But do not fear I found it. HAHA take away my obsession. My step bro, 25, says the Phantoms dead so I should stop thinking about him and he told me not to think about Gerry either cause he's too old for me. These people are mean. Every one else is ok with my obsession and that theres nothing wrong with me watching it 5 times a day.
Oh, I so wish that my family would love POTO. They groan everytime I mention the possibility of maybe putting the movie on. That actually happened 5 literal minuites ago. They also say that I am on the computer too much and always ask "Are you on that weird site again?". It is so annoying how they (my family)always look down on my obsession. I mean, this is the first thing I've been passionate about until I took up writing. I love POTO. *sigh* I wish they understood! The only two people who accept my obsession are my two friends. One likes it a lot, but is not obsessed, but the other is crazy about POTO too! She's the one who got me hooked on Phantom of the Opera. Therefore, I will forever be in your debt, Anna!

My parents think I'm literally crazy! Especially my dad. My sister likes the story and sings the music once in a while but she's not obsessed as I am. And my other two sisters never really say anything about it. My friends at school who really like it think I'm crazy too! I think they like it mostly because of Gerry. They got attatched because of the movie, but I rwad the book a year prior to the movie coming out. I also saw the play before I saw the movie, and they haven't seen it.
One of my friends is finally starting to read the book and she's really awed by Meg having black hair, Christine having blonde hair and blue eyes, the managers having different names, and Joseph Buquet having died in the first chapter.

My family doesn't care anymore because they're used to my obsessions. I'm on the coming out end of my last obsession and it lasted four years, and still isn't completely over. If they don't adjust they would never be able to talk to me. :D
As long as they can handle me walking around humming Phantom songs (because I can't sing at all) and recently obsessing over my lack of knowledge on all things French. They're starting to get annoyed about my walking around spouting off French phrases and singing, "Keep your hand at the level of your head." But I've been substituting the words with French phrases, and I've discovered that I'm actually a better singer when I sing in French. It's strange. But they deal with it. It's basically a part of life with me.
My mom likes the movie, but she's only seen it once, and really my obsession is just starting up, so give them time to get annoyed about it. My step-dad already thinks I talk about it too much (Yeah right! I've barely said a thing) and my mom's just glad I've finally moved out of my last obsession. Now, if my dad was still alive he would be on me about it. He took my obsessions way too seriously. I just stopped talking about them around him. So he would bug me about it. And one of my friends has mysteriously cut back on talking to me since my Phantom obsession started, lol, so... And my siblings are really too young, although I am working on converting my little sister. Last night I made her listen to Phantom of the Opera, Music of the Night, and she looked through my Phantom companion book and pointed at Chrsitine everytime she was on the page.
Currently I'm still nurturing the obsession, though. :D In time it will need its own opera house.

My family doesn't really know. This is kind of a new obsession, I've told them that I like the music and the movie/play/story, but they don't know just how much. They probably wouldn't really care anyway. They are not the type to tell me obsessions are "unhealthy". They are more likely to make fun of me for it (especially my sisters) then to tell me that they disapprove. Besides, my mom likes The Phantom of the Opera, too. But she mainly just likes the music from the original stage production. She saw the 2004 movie version only once and thought it was just "alright".

When I first told my family that I was obsessed with the Phantom of the opera, I think that they were relived because they thought that I'd given up my obsession with Tomb Rater (hehe they hate Gerard Butler). Guess what they're reaction was when they saw that GB played the Phantom. It's also a little akward when my dad comes in when Erik is holding Christine in Music of the Night. Yeah, and he ruins the whole movie by trying to sing along. I'm like, "Uh, Dad? I'm trying to watch Gerard Butler." and then he says ,"Arn't I as good looking as him?" and I'm like nooo. And then my mom banned me from listening to the CD in the car, instead it's back to the hippie music AHHHHHH!!!

Yeah! My parents think that I am way obbessed!!! I one time couldn't watch the Phantom for a week, and talk about scary. My friend's older brother wants to kill me because of my obbession.
My family hates the movie now(I've only watched it, what, 5 times???) and to annoy my brother at school, I'll randomly start singing a POTO song whenever I see him, and he hates me for it. :D But one of my friends at school will start singing it when she sees me, and then I'll join in, and everyone thinks we're crazy. The first time I watched it, my brothers did too(their first time) they started wailing and moaning whenever Christine or Raoul sang. I threw all the pillows on the couch at them and finally convinced them to leave. Now my family thinks I'm crazy because I'm obsessed!

Well when I first saw the play in New York my parents thought it was a great experience for me, because my brother had also seen it and fallen in love with the play. After I got back we had to see the movie and it was fantastic! Well then of course I had to buy the soundtrack, and then my boyfriend started buying me all sorts of posters and books on special occasions. So now I think they probably just assume i'm obsessed, which I pretty much am, but they don't mind it.

Like I believe I said before, I have read the book before seeing the 2004 movie, and immediatly after reading the book I became a fan of the Phantom of the Opera. I have heard a lot about it before, so I insisted my mom to buy me the book at that time. She was not convinced I would like it though, but it turned out to be one of the best I have ever read. So, I suppose my parents weren't as big fans as I was, and they only became so later on, after they, themselves, saw the 2004 movie too. They are still not as huge fans as me, but I don't mind. :)

But two of my three older sisters (Kaydence and Shela) like it, and one of my three little sisters (Arion), loves it, so we're pretty split up. In the beginning my family accepted my obcession, even thought that a real passion for somthing would be good for me. However, it has been about 2 years and their parience has long worn out. For some strange reason no one in my house can appricaite the beauty of Phantom so I am forced to hide in my room (or car) to satisfy my burning desire to listen to the music of the night.
My sister and my mom are quite obsessed as well, but not as much as I am. :)

My mum won't even watch it and neither will my stepdad.
My dad would probably watch it, but I'm not sure about him liking it. As foor my Grandma and Grandad, I think they like it a little, they are offering to take me to the musical when it comes to Manchester. My mom is a phan. She's not obsessed and she doesn't love it the way I do but she's still is a phan. She went to see the stage show with me and her favorite character is Raoul.
My little sister is a phan like my mom. She knows some of the songs and will listen to the OLC and the OCC with me.
My dad downloaded Music of the Night online and an obsession started. He wanted to go with me to see the stage show and everything. Then he watched the movie, hated it, and then the obsession ended. I keep trying to get him into it again. He says he still wouldn't mind seeing the stage show if he got the chance.
My brother really doesn't care. He doesn't like it but he doesn't not like it either.

Okay...freaky. That's EXACTLY how it is with me. In fact, not too long ago, my mother asked me, "Are you on that Phantom site again?" She says 'Phantom' with almost-pure venom. But for the most part, I'm left to my own devices. Lately, though, she's been saying I'm 'becoming a recluse', and that I shouldn't 'go against my nature'. My nature?! Gosh. Drama is my nature. POTO and Writing have so much drama, it's overwhelming!
Gosh....
My dad has no opinion on POTO. He's been working a lot lately. Since he just loves to give lectures(I think it has something to do with hearing himself), I can vent a few sentences to him, and he can give me advice. Half the time it's not what I'm looking for. But ya gotta love the guy. *hugs dad*

Back in February both of my parents saw the Phantom of the Opera on Broadway alongside me. Both of my parents enjoyed the performance very much and mom called it haunting and yet beautiful. I'm not sure what they think of the movie though because they have yet to seen it. My brother actually watched POTO the other day and he enjoyed it very much.

My mum and dad like it a little I think and my little sister watched the movie with me when I bought it. I tried to get her to listen to the OLC recording I bought (which in my opinion is better than the movie) BUT SHE WON'T LISTEN TO IT! Oh, and she says I'm a freak for being in love with a man who has an "ugly scarred face" lol.
My brother just came in and said, "There's a Phantom of the Opera forum??" like it was really weird or something. I said, "So what? There are forums for everything like Harry Potter, Big Brother and whatever else and you go on a wrestling forum, for god's sake." His answer was, "Well, people actually like those things." Ignorant git.

My family thinks I'm crazy, that's putting it simply.
My parents tolerate it, as long as I don't talk about it constantly at dinner. Both my twin sister and my older sister saw the play with me about a year and a half ago for school. My twin sister thought it was good but probably wouldn't see it again but my older sister had her Ipod on during the whole performance and fell asleep halfway through act 1.
My brother hasn't seen it and refuses to see it but he does blame anything that goes wrong or different on the Phantom of the Opera, just for fun...or to bug everybody. I'm not sure which one
Most of my friends loved it though.

Well let's see, my brother is the one who got me into POTO, though I don't think he knows about this site, maybe some persuasion *cough*blackmail*cough* from me will get him on XD.
My mom is used to me doing strange things, as is my dad and both my brothers. So I guess they take it well.
I don't consider myself obsessed though so I guess that is why they take it so well. *shrugs*

I've been singing Phantom since the 80's. My family is very supportive in my music pursuits, especially my mother and father (may he rest in peace). He once drove more than 2 hours to hear me sing for 5 minutes. He always supported my love for Phantom, even making me a wood carving with the mask and rose one year on my birthday. It was the most special gift I ever received.

Oh, that sounds like it'd be an amazing gift. The fact that he made it would make it even more special. My family recently, I belive, decided I went insane after I made an Amazon wish list with 45 items, over half of which were in some way connected to the Phantom of the Opera. :^/ But they've been pretty good with it lately. (Yes, they've finally realized how into it I am.)

Well, at first, my family thought I had completely lost it. I mean, I was always listening to the soundtrack before the movie came out and when the movie came out, it played over and over all day long. I would turn it on when I got up, it would play through the day on repeat, and then I would fall asleep watching it. I have had three DVDs of the movie because they all skip from being watched so much. I did not consider myself obsessed until my little sister told me I was. At first, I was sort of shocked and then I finally said "Yes, I am obsessed and I love it!" My mom would take the cd away from me and make me turn the movie off. That was okay though, I had it all in my head. I had the whole movie memorized so what did it matter. I always found where she hid them too. When I bought the book and was constantly reading it, my mom realized that I wasn't going to stop. So she just stopped pestering me about it. One day, she sat down and started watching the movie and she actually liked it. She said she could see why I loved it but not how I was obsessed with it; however, she never tries to get me away from it anymore which is a huge relief! My sister is obsessed with highschool musical so she doesn't bother me anymore either. Thank god for obsession in this case, cause she was annoying too, lol. Me and my mom argue sometimes over who is the better man. I tell her I would go with Erik and she asks how. She doesn't understand what is so appealing about a masked, ugly murderer who lives underground. I told her she just doesn't understand...

I'm not exactly obsessed with TOPO, but I have been a fan for as long as I've known about the story. I suppose my father, who was a film buff, probably guided me to seeing the various versions although I believe he preferred the Chaney version.
My mother doesn't care for some of the musical numbers--the choral ones mainly. That means that I watch it by myself.
I speak of this site, but I don't think that she considers me obsessed. Off the Net, I'm the only person I know who is a Phantom phan. Of course, I rarely get out, so I could be surrounded by them and not know it. See why I'm here so much? Sad, isn't it?

I'm the only one in my family who likes PTO. Everyone else just rolls their eyes when I mention someone associated with the show, like when ALW was on "Grease....You're the One that I Want!" I sat on the edge of my seat, with my eyes wide open the whole time. When I was younger, I would listen to the soundrack with the headphones on, singing loudly. I didn't realize I was singing so loud until someone banged on the door, yelling at me to shut up! I just love anything to do with PTO...I've read Susan Kay's novel a few times, as well as the original novel. They were both good. I've even seen an older version of the movie...one that was made in the 60s. I know the ALW soundrack by heart, so even if I don't have it, I have it in my head. It was that way for many years because I had lost the soundtrack when I moved one time, and was so broke, I didn't have the $$ to get another one. I have it now, on CD, and on my computer. I also have the movie. I'm trying to get my 3 y/o hooked, but that's going to take some time! :)

Well, I'm just getting into my obsession, so they probably haven't noticed it yet. They'll probably just think I'm finally out of my Jesus Christ Superstar obsession (which will always hold a place in my heart, :p ).
My mom loves Phantom, and has for years. My dad is okay with it. I got my brother into musical theater, and he likes it. Plus, my parents know my passion for musical theater since I do musicals in my high school and have had parts.
But they might notice it when I want to also want to get Susan Kay's "Phantom" (I just finished the Leroux novel today) and a phantom half-mask. They'll say okay about the mask (me wanting to read makes them happy), but wanting to get the mask might seem a little odd to them, so I have an excuse handy ;) :p

Let's see here-
My mom was a big fan of Music of the Night, and decided to get the movie to hear the rest of the Phantom of the Opera. (Well, that and a friend of mine watched it and told me how the Phantom's face was deformed, but that's a whole other story). So, my mom isn't a phan, but she's a phan of the music. My dad dislikes it, through and through. His eyes roll whenever I talk about Erik or someone else in POTO. He does like Music of the Night, though. I can sing that tune out, loud and clear!:D

My sisters and mother actually think it's pretty comical. While they don't ridicule me for it, they're just puzzled as to why out of all the hundreds of movies and musicals I've seen it was The Phantom of the Opera that I chose to obsess over. After 3 years, I've given up trying to explain it to them.

My sister also loves PotO and she is is only a *tad* bit less obsessed with it than me. My aunt and uncle don't care for any of it. I had to buy the soundtrack in secret and hide the movie from my aunt for fear she'd take it away from me. I am the only obsessed person in the family. However I have a cousin in Texas who adores the Phantom of the Opera (her and I are a lot alike); but I think she likes Grease a pinch more. I practically have to sneak online...like now for instance...

Well, Chrissy summed up our parents' thoughts on Phantom AT THAT TIME well enough.
Two months later, things have changed slightly:
My father now tolerates Phantom and has taken some interest in my PhanArts (I do not dare to show him my phanphics, because he wouldn't get it...) His change in attitude may have to do with the lack of Phantomyness, though, on our behalf. I've decided to put a lid on my obsession and obsess at my leisure. Like now, for instance. I'm doing phanphic and Phantom RPGing.
My mother, on the other hand, has taken to poking fun at the story-- more specifically, Nadir. I guess it's retribution for the many months she and I spent mocking Chrissy's past (?) obsession with Mr. Gerard Butler. I guess my mother finds it satisfying to seem me fuming over the unfortunate ryhming between "Nadir" and "Queer". But, she's recently taken a "I don't care" attitude and Phantom is less of a discussion topic between us. Perhaps this is because my other obsession (Harry Potter) has hit a milestone and I can't stop talking about that.
So, even though my parents don't forbid it, I think I'll become more of a closet-phan because I get more pleasure out of it that way, and it lets my relationship with my parents go unmarred.
When it comes to my friends, however, it is a different story. I used to be very open and lose lipped about my Phantom obsession. My friends were interested in it... for a time. Slowly, they've lost interest in it (altough my best friend is finally going to see the movie and my other best friend is very supportive). I have one friend with whom I am collaborating on a science-fiction novel and have been for some time. However, only two days ago, we met face to face for the first time. She appreciated my Harry Potter posters and Phantom phanarts, but the second I mentioned that I RP and write PhanPhiction, her tone totally changed. "What's there to add to Phatnom of the Opera?" she asked me. I smiled and said, "Plenty." Before I was allowed to elaborate, she went off on a rant about how phanphiction was dead-ended, RPing Phantom was pointless, and "messing with" a classic was disrespectful. Somewhat snarkily I said, "Tell that to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Susan Kay." I didn't mention Forsyth, because I felt she would use him against me. We did not, fortunately, part on bad terms, but I must say, I saw an opinonated and harsh side of her I'd never seen before and I daresay she is the last person I will tell about my Phantom obsession face-to-face until I wed.

*sigh* my family still hates phantom...but that's okay, cause I've just ordered a phantom book which I'll get in 2 weeks...good thing my grandma is good at keeping secrets. She doesn't mind my phantom obsession and is a real help on keeping my aunt out of the picture.
My parents have long given up hope on me. I dragged my mom to the musical once and, although she didn't say it, I knew that she didn't like it. Too bad too, Gary/Beth/MSL were awesome. My dad fell asleep during the show both times I saw it with him...he said that he'd seen it so many times that it bores him (five times, haha, I've seen it over thirty and never get bored). They think the thousands of dollars I've spent on my obsession is money wasted. :P
My sister tolerates my obsession, since she's obsessed with some weird things herself *cough*John Wayne movies*cough*. So we good-naturedly razz one another. My brother-in-law thinks I'm crazy, but that's nothing new.
My fifteen month old niece, however, LOVES Phantom. :D When I was babysitting her I put the title song from the OLC on and she started dancing and jumping around. I've played it for her several times and now when the "dun dun dun dun dun" starts she tries to say it too. It's very cute. A few times when I've sat her she followed me around saying "duh duh duh duh duh duh" until I put the song on, then she danced and squealed. I think she's a phan in training. ;)
My mother loves it. Grandma says that it's the only Andrew Lloyd Webber musical she can tolerate. It was my grandfather's favorite before he died.
My sister likes it, but thinks that the Phantom is evil and a mass murderer on the same order of, say, what's his name? The guy with the Nazi tattoo who's last name is "Manson". The guy who everyone unjustly associates the Beatles song "Helter Skelter" with. Poor, misguided soul, my sister is.
My brother thinks Michael Crawford laughs funny.
And no one understands my obsession with Carlotta. :(

My whole family thinks I'm some sort of crazy person! Every time I'm in my room singing to the soundtrack they shudder. It's so bad that while I was in my shower this morning, as soon as I hit a big note in "The Music of the Night", my dad "coincidently" decided to knock on the door and tell me to hurry up and stop wasting water... I had only been in there about 45 seconds.

My sister thinks I'm a nut. (And I am...) And she doesn't get why I love Erik sooo much! She just keeps saying, "He's a stalker! And he's ugly! And he kills people!" *sigh* And she's older than me, too...
My dad... makes fun of me for it. Just like my other obsessions, he makes a joke out of it and teases me! I guess I'm used to it...
Well, atleast my best friend can obsess over it with me! He totally rocks... I don't know what I would do without our bursting into song when we're together... My life would totally stink!!!

Oh God...
I have 2 brother and 2 sisters and they completly TORMENT me with it! From Gerard Butt Head to Erik escaping the opera house by tunneling out with a jello spoon to Germany and joins forces with Hitler! (don't ask).
I've been obsessed with POTO for 4 years and they're all still crossing their fingers that it's a phase. You see, before Phantom I was really into Harry Potter for about a year, but then saw the movie and the rest is history. They picked on me so much about how I'm going to wake up hating POTO one day like I did with HP. Grrrr....
The worst of it all, is my father. He is a huge sports fan so he doesn't really understand. Whenever I have any of the movies on (which is like always) he groans and says "Victoria, turn to ESPN!!!" He is constantlly making fun of it and oh God it's just so annoying! As you can see, my father and I "bang heads" as my mother says.
At least there's a silver lining to every gray cloud :) My mom likes it, not really a phan, but gets my obsession you know? She took me to see Phantom and sometimes sings the songs with me (she has a very lovely tenor voice :p) Ah good ol Mom...
The torment is really at school though. Sure I like being known as the "Phantom Phreak" or even just Phantom, it really is a great honor to be the only phan in my school and probably my town but I got bullied last year so that's not good :( As Firman once said "spare me these unending trials"

My parents, as some of you know, are trying to rid of the disease from their beloved daughter! Well, it's not my fault that I'm in love with a book/musical/movie....ummm welll basically a character. I'm have no idea of how express my love for Erik, and yes I know that some of you are going (Oh God! This girl proably raves on and on about him day and night...) Actually I don't. I try to keep things of my love dreams secret. But ocassionally my friends tease me. They don't understand me. Call me crazy, call me insane, but there's something you can't call me a 'try lover of Erik'. I am in love with him, even if he was real, even if he didn't love me himself. No matter what... My parents think I'm crazy, but they cope with it. They don't say I'm insane, but they do say, 'Ahh, it's the teenage's mind at work...let's no disturb it..." kind of phrase. Well basically they like it, they saw it when I was a baby (I was left home with a jealous babysitter that loved it), I learned about it's exsistance when I was seven and I watch the movie once in a while they even watch sometimes. What more is there to say?

I remember when my obsession just kicked off, my sister wouldn't print out pictures of POTO for me (she was the only one who knew how to do it) because she didn't want to 'fuel my unhealthy obsession.' Funny because that didn't stop me :)
I have one friend who kind of likes it, but that's only because I hang out with her so much.

I am all alone in a cold cruel world. :( :D NO ONE in my family even really likes POTO, and they're certainly not interested in becoming an obsessee (is that a word?!) like me. My mom and dad BOTH think it's unhealthy and is somehow harmfull. Drives me nuts. I have learned more and been more alive through this than any other time in my life. They just don't understand...
My one consolation is that my best friend Ali (*Phantom's Revenge*) loves POTO, and is almost as obsessed as I am. :D

Poor Laura!
I turned my big brother into a phan. But somehow, my plan backfired and he's becoming and E/C shipper... I had him read the book when he was in bed (due to a dentist's removing his wisdom teeth) and after that he was neutral, then he watched the 2004 movie and thought about the whole thing and he's leaning towards E/C. Oh, well. At least he's a phan.
My dad's not a phan, but he doesn't hate it either. He grew up with the Claude Rains film and so, when we were listening to my soundtrack (OLC) in the car and it was on Stranger Than You Dreamt It he remarked "He loves his daughter". I loooked at him funny and had to explain to him that no, Christine is not his daughter, she is his love interest. Dad caught on quickly and is fairly neutral but leaning towards being an R/C (YES!):D
Eh, Mama doesn't really like it at all. She saw the show with me, and she'll hum the tunes, but other than that, she doesn't really care for it. ...She does like some of the stage costumes though.
Other brothers: The youngest likes it. He doesn't know a whole lot about it yet, but he likes the songs. Haha! The twins (yes, I have brothers that are twins) aren't phans, but they think it's okay. Andrew said, "It's too sad." and Jonathan (the younger of the wins) doesn't really care... except about the safety pin part I told him about in the book...

My parents are okay with my Phantom obsession because they know how obsessive I can get with things. However, it is my Auntie Judi who truly understands my obsession because she is a phan herself. Like myself, her favorite Erik is Mikey Crawford, so we have these great discussions over how talented and godly we think he is. We also discuss many other aspects of Phantom, but somehow it always ends up right back where it started - at Mikey Crawford. She is registered in my cell phone as "Auntie Phantom" because of all of this. :D

Wow...co-incidence again?
My aunt is also the only one which truly understand my obsession with POTO!
She watched the Original Cast about 10 years ago when the tour came to Australia, and she was lucky enough to watch Michael Crawford as Erik...*sniff*
my Aunt was the one who persuaded my mum to let me go to watch POTO in 9 days, because my mum thinks my obsession is ridiculous and wouldn't lemme go at first....I so grateful for her!

I want to watch the original cast!
Though admittedly when they were in Australia before, I had no idea what PotO is.
My parents think I'm insane for liking PotO so much. I think they're insane for watching Chinese Dramas so much. It's all good. ;)
My friends actually LIKE Phantom. Or most of them do anyway.
[[And some are obsessed. -prods Tiannangel-]]
Ooo Phantom music. I used to have some for violin...no idea where it disappeared though. :(

No one in my family really knows how obsessed I am with Phantom; luckily, I'm old enough that it doesn't matter what my parents think of things I like or not. Ah, one of the benefits of being an old lady. :) I just tell them not to worry if I don't answer the phone for a few days, since I'm taking a trip. They always figure out that it's to see Phantom. ;)

My parents just plain think I'm weird for being obsessed with something like this, but then again, they say I'm weird pretty much once every day to me.
Nobody else in my family really likes it. I'M ALL ALONE! (I'm an only child, but I do have stepsisters, but they don't live at my mom's with me, they're on my dad's side. The older 2, (twins), are grown up and out of the house and the younger one (15) I only see every other weekend, so I'm alone a lot of the time.)
But I'm weird and I'm not ashamed to say that I am.
YAY WEIRDNESS!
(I hate trying to spell that word!)

My mum and grandma like it and they took me to see it live, but they still look at me like I'm crazy when I start talking about Don Juan Triumphant. My dad asks what he was triumphant about and when I start ranting he says ''I knew I shouldn't have asked that.'' My sister starts whining.

Half the people on here, like me, have failies who think they are deranged because of our PotO obsession...
Hey, I can't blame them for thinking that, maybe we are a bit overboard sometimes :D:D
But thats good yea? Shows how much we love PotO!!!
