It's a wonderful musical! I hope that you both can have a chance to hear the entire soundtrack and/or see it! There are DVDs of the OBC out there...

Oh, I watched this musical in my Drama class. Wow, it was kind of strange at first, but I really did enjoy it, it's quite funny. Of course everyone in my class was taking about other stuff, but I kind of heard most of it. We were laughing at most of the Princes' stuff, their funny. Goldilocks bothers me...she had a knife.

And the most memorable quote that we know is "Anything can happen in the woods."

Goldilocks, Miss Daae? It was Little Red Ridinghood.

Yes a very memorable quote.

I wouldn't think of it as a "cute" play, myself. What with all the people dying in the second half...

My school did this play when I was in 8th grade. I got to be in it and have been singing the songs ever since. I played Riding Hood's grandmother... "KILL THE DEVIL!!!" I got to crack the audience up which was a lot of fun.

Miss Daae

Oh yeah, it was Red Riding Hood, gosh, I'm so mixed up with Fairy Tales and Fables and everythig...they both travelled into woods, but no Goldilocks...

Oh, your lucky you got to do that! I wish we could, but my teacher said it's too dark for school. I'd want to be Cinderelle, I could live, although most of the other characters are funnier.

The thing is... being in 8th grade... we only did the first half. Thbe half where no one dies! I was shocked when I watched the second half in drama class (the teacher had a copy of the broadway production) Even my character died!!

Hehehe, that was a good idea. Basically everyone died in the second act. I think the witch was quite funny, I didn't like her in the beginning, because she seemed really annoying. But Bernadette Peters did a great job as her...I saw the 1991 version just so you know. I'd like to be in the play, it seems so fun though.

The first act had some kind of weird freaky stuff, althought it was known also, like them cutting the step-sister's feet and the glass slipper filling with blood...eww. But then again, it's what happened in the grim fairy tales, right?

The witch is my favorite, and in the broadway Bernadette Peters did an amazing job. We also did this in our school(my idea). And I was the witch. I think that is why I like her so much. I love Bernadette Peters though. We only did the first act also. It was great fun.
We watched it before we preformed though. I brought in the DVD for our class.

I've never seen Into the Woods, but my younger sister goes to theater camp. Every summer they put on three productions and this summer one of the productions is Into the Woods. But she's not doing that one, so I probably won't be going to see it.

So, just curious...

There are alot of character in ITW, and they are all interesting. Which one would you be best at playing? Not your favorite, but the one you're most suited for.

For me, it's the Baker's Wife, and the Narrator if she's played as a female, which is sometimes done.

I love this musical. The Witch and the Bakers Wife are two of the great female characters in Broadway history. Bernadette Peters and Joanna Gleason are exceptional talents and are incredible in the roles.

I have see nt the show many times, have the show on tape and listen to my CD quite often- even after all these years.

INTO THE WOODS is truly magical and a must see/listen for everyone.

You learn *sooooo* much from the characters and what they learn and see and expierience.

`My school is doing this musical this year! I am soooo excited, but I don“t know much about it.....

does anyone have any of the music that they could send me?

^_^ A rival school in Florida did this this year. It actually wasn't too good, but thankfully I was not in it. Once is enough, especially if you did about 30 productions of it in the time expanse of a few weeks.

Ah well, I still love it. I actually would love to maybe do stage crew in this some other time . . .I dunno, I love the ending. We had a lot of trouble doing the giant, and figuring out how we would fit it all in because we had to change a bit.

Hmmm...perhaps I really am the only one who isn't a fan of Into The Woods. I don't know why - the music was decent, and the costumes good, but it just didn't grab me like so many other musicals have.

Perhaps it's because of the second act, perhaps not. All I know is that I really didn't care for it when I saw it: it was long, and at times, dull.

But that's just me. :)

I think I've heard of this before... what's the plot?

the plot is hard to explain try searching on google or ask, my school did it last year, i'd tried out didn't get a part, but i was in stage crew, my bff was little red, the weird part was that the guy who played the baker and the girl who played the baker wife, are actally together now in real life. Also my boyfriend was the Wolf/ Cinerella Prince

The premise of Into the Woods is that all the traditional Fairy Tales took place in one universe and were interconnected. Using characters made up for the musical (The Baker and the Baker's Wife), the first act shows us how all those stories are connected in a clever and funny way. The second act tells what happened after the endings of all the stories, when things aren't quite as 'happily ever after' as everyone expects them to be.

This may contain spoilers!!

This was my first play. Ever. It was performed during my Sophomore Year. I played a Bird and Snow White. Yes, I stole Rapunzel's Prince. lol. And I blinded the Giantress. *proud of it* The play was so much fun to do....So many fond memories.

And our Little Red is virtually identical to Little Red in Hoodwinked. Omg. to a T.

But yeah YoungGiry has it pretty much right on the money. The Characters interact with each other including: Jack (and the Beanstalk), Cinderella, Baker and His Wife, the Witch, Rapunzel, and Little Red Riding Hood. those are the main characters. there are other such as Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. minor roles....(they are the subjects of Agony Reprise).

The way we did our giantress was having a plywood head hidden back stage and when the giantress "falls" the head just swung down.

I think i still have my script somewhere....*goes and looks for script*

At my school I had missed this show by one year! I would have totally taken anything they would have given me, but you know my school was big on type casting...ha!
I've heard the songs once and only once, but I remember making a note to buy the soundtrack. I could find it and I've been missing out every since.

I'm doing the junior version of this this summer at a theatre camp. May I ask who is the lead in the music (aka the one with the most singing and stage time?)

Oo, isn't Chrissy as well. It was brought up at sometimes in the Singer's Thread...*can't quite recall when*. The Witch or Cinderella...I can't quite recall. Even researching the show hasn't helped much. Like I said before, I haven't heard the songs in a LONG time. I hope that helps ;)

Somewhat, all I know is that there are a lot of female characters in the musical and I'm trying to prepare myself. Yes, I do believe that I mentioned it in Singer's but I was speaking more on voice part.

Merci pour your input.

I hope I helped. It said the lead-ish role was Cinderella and so you know, I will assume many lines for her. This shows does require many cast members and for some school or companies double roles, but that's mostly for men...oh Men...:(

The Countess

Yes I did look into Cinderella's part and even logged into the Broadway Jr. website. For Cinderella, it said:

Cinderella is at once beautiful, in a yet-to-be-discovered sort of way, and surprisingly clumsy and awkward. She persistently pursues her wish to go to the King's Festival, yet finds that "the Festival" ultimately does not meet her expectations. Directors have an opportunity in casting Cinderella to go for the unusual. She should be able to sing well and be funny, without being a clown or mugging.

I also may try for the Witch, considering that she seems to be a favorite, but I'm not sure about her actual vocal role. Any ideas?

It's been a month so a double post won't get me in trouble I hope.

I had the pleasure of watcing a taped performance of the show with Bernadette Peters. It was amazing. I really wish that the Jr. version did the second act as well. I was really inspired by BP's performance and I think that I'll go for the Witch above all.

Good luck, Viktoria! I just know you're going to be great.

I had the pleasure of seeing Into The Woods on July 30th at Music Circus, and the performance was - simply put - brilliant! Stephen Sondheim has a very witty sense of humor, and that, combined with the actors and actresses in the show itself, made for a terrific performance. It's definitely one I'd see again, given the chance.

I'm proud to announce, yet again, that I've scored the part of the Witch. Although it's only the Jr. version of the show (i.e. it's only the first act) her role is still very complicated. I'm having oddles of fun and my costume is kick ass. My favorite number is definitly Greens Greens. "And bang crash, and the lightining flash! And well that's another story never mind. Anyway!" It's so much fun.

I wish that they kept the Witch's solo in Children Will Listen. C'est tres triste.

Ooh, congrats, Viktoria! I'm glad you're enjoying the role . . . I love this show as well, and would love the chance to see or be in it. I've not gotten to see the DVD or anything, but I got to hear both the original Broadway and London cast albums. The London Witch, Julia McKensie (who was also a fantastic Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd) made a great Witch. I really can't decide who I prefer; her or Bernadette.

By the way, the male singer I mentioned in the "Dream Roles" forum who nearly got to play the Witch in the Broadway revival of the show... His name is Billy Porter, and he actually recorded "Last Midnight" for his album, At the Corner of Broadway + Soul. (http://www.amazon.com/Corner-Broadway-Soul-Billy-Porter/dp/B0009W5JH8) The track before it, "A Sondheim Holiday," is one where he talks about how it almost came to be... 'tis quite interesting. Check it out if you can! :D

Just because I've heard Bernadette and the school version of into the woods I'm going to say Bernadette hands down from what I've heard ;)

But I shall see this Julia McKensie when I get back that computer of mine....come here my pretty--yea it had to Oz...

Viktoria...you must get a picture of your costume!!!!!

Haha, I'll try to (really this time). It's absolutly unreal! When I'm wearing it, it doesn't even look like me. Like, it's this half mask (ooo Phantom) so it only comes a little below my ears so you can see my mouth and stuff. It's so creepy to watch myself talk in it.

The songs are actually a lot harder than I thought they would be, but in a good way. Greens Greens is definitly tricky but even the timing with Stay With Me is painful. Practice practice practice.

So are you going to be green or something? yes yes! Tempo is such a killer! I remember trying to work on Time to Say Goodbye and some other song from this show...haha what a time. But seriously...are you going green in the part?

The Countess
08-19-2009, 11:17 PM
Nope, this isn't Wicked after all. ;) I wear this really creepy old lady mask though. It seriously doesm't look like me at all.

The show is in about 3 days so I'm super excited. My favorite song remains Stay With Me. I'm like shaking by the end of the song, it's so powerful.

Hey a few of the Witches in this show do go green sometimes ;)....I heard that song and I think it's like the only one I remember :) It made me like freak out with chills. I envy you for having the music! :) *searches online...*

Hey guys, the performance was great! We got a nice standing ovation at the end. I'm really sad that it's over though. Anyway, I got some pictures of my costume and such that I'll post in the appropriate thread once they've uploaded (my camera hates me today). I didn't get a chance to record any of the music, but I will sing it sepratly and post it in the singer's thread later as well.

The show, overall, was great. We flubbed a few times, but we always recovered and moved on. We got a lot of laughs from our "giant" in the sky ;). I'm going to miss this production so much.
