Hello everyone,
I joined this message board because I am interested in meeting new friends. I have been a Phantom of the Opera fan since 1991. I have seen the ALW musical 15 times, including the Las Vegas version. I love the story, discussing in depth about emotions, themes, storylines, elements, characters. I have also done my own musical adaptation of it, starting it in high school, hoping to get it produced some day. I was wondering what your thoughts are on certain parts of the story. In the original Leroux novel, Madame Giry mentions that the Opera Ghost brings a Lady friend to Box Five, but she has not seen her with him. I didn't quite understand that part. I've seen discussions online about it. Also, in the musical, in your opinion, if Erik knew deep down in his heart that Christine would not stay with him, then why did he try for her? I asked Ted Keegan, Phantom actor, and he said that because he hoped she would stay with him. Or maybe was it because of that cliche "if you love something, let it go, and if it comes back to you, it's yours to keep, If it doesn't come back, then it wasn't meant to be". Do you understand what I am asking? I have also a lyric question. In the ALW musical, when he takes her through the mirror and they sing the title song, when Christine sings "the Phantom of the Opera is there inside my mind" and "those who have seen your face draw back in fear" and when the Phantom sings "In all your fantasies you always knew, that man and mystery were both in you."
Also, when do you think Erik first falls in love with Christine? Hal Prince says that he fell in love with her when she hands him back his mask, which I tend to agree because it is sort of giving him back his dignity in a way. Just a few things to discuss.
Love Always,
