The Phantom

Discuss Jennifer Ellison who portayed Meg Giry in the new Phantom of the Opera movie here. I thought she did really well in her part, though at times it looked like her blonde hair was a wig or something. It just didn't seem to fit her appearance very well during the movie. Anyone know what her original hair color is?

Well, I'm pretty sure it's blonde because in all the other photos I see of her she has blonde hair.
Anyway. I thought she played a very sweet and cute Meg. Her voice was gorgeous, just that lovely sweet sound just right for Meg. Even though her dress at Masquerade was somewhat shocking, other than that she always looked beautiful. A very well cast character.

I think so too, I liked her a lot, she was sweet and innocent, but a little curious. I think she did a great job and with her voice too, sweet just like you said Jacinta. :) I think her blonde hair looked natural. *Shrugs*

She was a very good Meg. Just the right amount of sweetness to make her endearing.

I loved her portrayal- the perfect balance of curiosity, concern and a nice voice. Meg is strong, smart and kind, and Jennifer made it all shine through :)
She is currently Roxie Hart in CHICAGO- the London production.
I believe she has blonde hair.

I wasn't terrible keen on her voice... other then tht I thoght that she was really good!
Sweet, innocent, and obvioulsly very close to Emmy Rossum and Christine.
I also think that her hair is naturally blonde... It looked natural to me.

Definitely! I agree.
Really? I love Chicago and I think she'd fit well as Roxie. :) I've never seen her in anything else, but I think she's a good actress from what I've seen in this film.

Yeah I think she was a cute sweet Meg but that dress in Masquerade made her look like a tart not at all what a sweet, innocent girl should wear!!;)

I think she did a good job, better than I expected. And I love her accent, it's sooo sweet, fits her very well.

I liked Meg and found her an intriguing character. Just think: Christine hasn't tried to track down her Angel of Music, but Meg's mother catches the girl on the stairs, heading toward exploring the underground. Also, she's in the sewers with the rest of the men, apparently unafraid, daring enough to go into the Phantom's lair.
The actress does an awful lot with a miniscule role; she really does stand out in her scenes. I think her singing voice is lovely. Considering that several previous Christines are blonde, perhaps she could play that role.
I liked Meg (especially as portrayed in the filmed musical) enough to bring her in as Erik's next student in my Christmas story. I'd really like to add to that story. It keeps tugging at my mind quite persistently. I think some really interesting phanphic could be written about her.

She played the thought very well i thought. Her accent was good as in real life she has quite a broad scouse accent from what i rember seeing her on the tv (scouse being a the accent of people from Liverpool)
So the accent change was done really well.

I thought she played a very sweet Meg. A very caring friend to Christine.
On another note, did anyone else (when they first saw her in the movie) think that she was very hot? I know this board is mostly made up of women though :)

REALLY? I LOVE Chicago. I wonder what sort of Roxie she'll make.
I think she's quite sweet as Meg, innocent, curious, nice voice, called 'boring' by the critics. Her dress in Masquerade was a bit...revealing, though.

Most of her dresses her revealing. But only because her *Ahems* are so big. I don't any dress would fit those well. They tried to used dresses and outfits from the originals (ie, Ptrick Wilson wore the original Masquerade outfit).
I loved her voice though. It was clear and innocent. I liked that she had expirience in dancing and singing.

I saw the 2004 film before I read the Leroux novel, and Jen's portrayal of Meg initially interested me in the character of Meg. I agree that she was able to bring so much to her miniscule role. Because of her preformance, Meg is my favorite character and I've written phanphic based upon Jen's portrayal.
I didn't know about he less than illustrious past in men's magazines prior to seeing the movie and it was a bit of a shock. Actually, it was a bit more than a bit, because I was attempting to make a Meg banner and searched her. That shocked me because her preformance as Meg makes her seem so innocent and sweet. In any case, that must mean she is a good actress.

Jennifer played the part really well and I didn't know she could well THAT well before the 04 movie!!

Compared to the book she gave Meg a pretty name for a dancer. In the book she was described as frail and black, inky hair. She did a great job without full blown lessons of opera. Meg's part is singable but still it takes guts to do it! and it takes guts to wear that dress without it having to fall down at least once. . .

I also thought that dress was a little too revealing! I can't believe Mde. Giry would let her wear it. Her singing was so sweet-sounding and I liked how she acted just like a close sister to Christine. I still wonder if she knows that her mom knows The Phantom, but that's another topic.

Megs are so hard to find. One, they have to be able to dance ballet very very well. And two, they have to be able to sing on pitch (something I've found most Megs have trouble doing). But Jennifer nailed it. She could dance, sing and act. I enjoyed her version very much. A triple threat in the last stages of the making right there (as of 2004).
As for the revealing dresses, its a bit ahrd to find a dress that fits when you're a size 40 DD (also known as an E in some countries). I know this because I read her biography after i saw the movie. I just happend to stumble across that information, awkward as it is. And I think Joel wanted to play that up a bit, make her a bit of a cliche, poor Jennifer.
She actually has a solo CD. Its much poppier than Emmy's... It reminded me a bit of Mandy Moore and Britney Spears... so catchy with a bit training. Or maybe even a Christina Agularia (sp?).
I, too didn't know she liked to model for a certian men's magazine until I attempted a banner. I also heard she was a playboy bunny at one time. It wouldn't surprise me and it prolly wouldn't change my veiws on her voice/acitng/dancing wise. I just don't know if its true. Does anyone know?

Did she train in dance? I so she's amazing, and if not she's even amazing-er. Her technique and poise was beautiful. Her grace really? it was perfect for Meg. I love the innocence of her face during Notes and Prima Donna. During the chandelier crash it was great to the three (Mme Giry, Raoul and Meg) running, but the face on Jennifer when Mme Giry and Raoul ran ahead, ha! That was just perfect.
Her voice is what said Meg mostly. She had this perfectly pitched, quiet voice that was exactly how I see Meg anywhere.

She did an alright job in the role but I can't help but think that they only hired her to help sex up the film. I mean she was a "glamour model" and that would explain her costume in Masquerade. I'm just a little bit iffy with the motives for her casting...
Don't get me wrong, she's a pretty good singing and her dancing is okay, but I'm fearful of perhaps another reason of her casting.

Well I think that she encompassed the innocence of Meg well. I mean she didn't throw herself out there too much with her costumes, but that Masked ball one...she better not hiccup because something will fall down! But I don' think that she tried to sex anything up in the film. She was the brave girl Meg was. I think that Joel intended that but that's just Joel...crazy man!

Her hair is definitely blonde. I have watched interview of her on Youtube. She does have blonde hair.
Do you think she had already known what Phantom was about before she auditioned for the role? Or do you think that she had no idea of what she was getting herself into?
