What do you all think about Carlotta and Piangi's relationship in the movies or in the musical?

I didn't expect it at first because they don't seem to be a couple or anything in the beginning of the movie or anything... but then, at the end when Carlotta was crying over Piangi's dead body. Discuss this not so popular ship here.

I don't think they were that 'official' of a ship, really. In the beginning, especially. Didn't she order him around somewhat in the movie version?

I think that they only were together because they both believed that they were too good for anyone else, since they were both the stars. Maybe after awhile, they accually grew to like each other, and that is why Carlotta is crying at the end.

I think that it shows in the masquerade scene. When he steps forward when the Phantom insults Carlotta, I thought something might be going on with them. Then when she cries over him, it just supported it even more.

Oh yeah..I noticed those and also that he was with her during the "notes" scene, just in regular dress. It took me a while to realize that and then I was like "Hey! It's Piangi with Carlotta!"

I didn't notice it there, but now that I go over the scene in my head, I see it. And after 'Think of Me', wasn't that him in the carriage with her?

Oh yeah! Good thinking Christine! I never saw that one...but now I know what you mean.

I think they'd make a funny couple. Can that much ego be in one relationship? And what about the mini-guy? Where does he fit in with the Proud Pair?

The mini guy...he always has interesting parts that don't really fit. I don't know what happens with him. I bet he's the jealous best friend that helped kill off Piangi.

But actually...I think people with big egos get along together really well until one decides they're no longer a "we're better than you" but rather it's an "I'm better than all of you".

Yeah, but what happens when one wants a kiss-up session, and the only one around is the other. But the other has too much pride to do it. Then a lot of violence ensues. But I guess with those two being opera stars, they can always just ask the groveling opera managers.

Reading everyone's post that makes a lot fo sense, I thought they were just friends or something, but with the mention of the carriage scene and during the insult the Phantom gave her, I can see them being more. To me they are the perfect pair, Lol. It's sad that he dies though, Carlotta looked like she really did care for him and that was kind of strange since she is very selfish and full of pride.

I think sge was secretly happy when he died because then she could have the whole show to herself, and she wouldnt have anyone starring next to her. :D

No, I think that they were er... more then just friends. Why else would she be so hysterical when he died? She did scream "No! Piangi my love!" etc. but maybe that was just to get attention....

I don't know though. If she was so worried about her singing, wouldn't she have been more upset about the Opera House in ruins? I mean, if the Phantom just started heck up again, and she was just looking to advance herself, would she have been sad about Piangi or the Opera House... I think that he melted her heart... And I feel bad for her, even if she was a mean character.

I think that, as they both have big egos, and Carlotta is a diva, the violence would be there anyway....well, maybe not violence, but certainly heat. They both have tempers, don't they?
And I don't think they would ask the opera managers, I think they would tell the opera managers, lol!

Carlotta & Piangi are lovers. It's just that we don't see it full out... It's in the way they are with each other and in their reactions to what happens to the other... They stand up for each other and protect each other in MASQUERADE and are always together. In THINK OF ME, they are in the carriage together, looking quite cozy, and she faints against him... He brings in the portrait of her in PRIMA DONNA... And her grief at his death... "Ubaldo?! Piangi my love! Mio amor (my love)... My darling..." She is most honsetly distraught and risks her own life to stay and cry over his body.

Yeah, I think that they were together from the begining, but maybe they had fight or something, because I think Panji said to the managers,"Ameturs!" or it might have been someone else, but other than that I think that they were a couple during the whole thing, because they are most always seen together. They might have gotten together a long time ago, because you know it commen that people fall in love with each other on stage, or in a movie or something.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but Aren't they married? My mother was interested before me, and she told me they were. So If I'm wrong it's all her fault. But I also think that they were lovers, married or not.

Yeah I know. In the movie she is crying at the end. But in the begging she is bossing him around. That is a weird realtionship. Then again Pangi always follows Carlotta around.

But then again, a lot of people follow her around so they don't get thrown out of the opera by "her people".

I for one think Carlotta and Ubaldo make a beautiful couple, and I'm delighted to see that someone started this thread! Carlotta is a very snobbish, ill-temepered person, (but I like her anyways :) ) but Ubaldo seems like a very calm, caring person, who would be able to sand by her and comfort her. It's very tragic when he dies and Carlotta cries over his body. But in my mind, Ubaldo lives! :)

I think they're cute together. Ubaldo is so tolerant towards Carlotta's needy, selfish attitude and I think that's wonderful because someone's gotta be. I think Ubaldo deserves a woman (even if she is a snob) because he gets so much crap from other people. I think they compliment each other. Opposites attract, you know.

I think Piangi deserved a better woman than Carlotta. :D She was so self-absorbed, and he appeared to be always supporting and affectionate. I guess they do go together though...sort of. :D I wish Phantom hadn't killed him in the movie, I like Piangi. :(

I love them both as characters. And if Carlotta didn't love anyone else, she loved Piangi. They're always together, and she's not bossing him around.I think they do love each other, and not becuase they're stuck up.This is probably one area in Carlottas life where she isn't stuckup. They have somthing in common and theey had a relationship based on it.

I love how throughout the movie/play Carlotta is this selfish, irritating diva with more ego than she has a right to, and then when Piangi gets killed, it's as if we see her whole facade crumble and she's weeping over probably the only person who really loves/loved her. It takes this to break her down. Sad and touching in quirky sort of way. :(

Note:Although in some sequels I have read, Piangi is not dead, only passed out. However he loses his voice as a result of the Phantom's Punjab.

I can't really say much about this ship except that Carlotta must've really loved Piangi to cry over his death like that, even if she was a spoiled, selfish little bi**h.

And I agree with whoever said Piangi deserves soneone better.

Just because someone's a ***** doesn't mean they can't love or be loved. I wasn't shocked that she cried. I was shocked that he put up with her so much and could tolerate her. But, hey, love is blind and possibly deaf (I would be be, too, if Carlotta was screaming at me night and day). Perhaps she was so selfish and spoiled because maybe Piangi loved her so much and spoiled her. Just something to think about.

Piangi really does love Carlotta, and Carlotta does love him too (she cried at this dead) they just aren't the couple that would be like Daae and Raoul.
They also are probably consumed in the world of theaters so much that they can't so their affection for each as much as they wish. Hey they probably feel in love during a show or something ;)

I was always under the impression that they were some sort of lovers. In the movie version, it's plain to see that the two had feelings for each other or at least Carlotta did. In the muscial, not so much, but in both versions Piangi defends Carlotta in Prima Donna and sides with her in Notes. Perhaps their relationship was just business, but I doubt it.

I don't think that they were married as they were both too engulfed in their careers to think about settling down, or at least Carlotta was.

I just thought about that. Were they really married? I seriously thought so, but that's just me. They could have just had a strong interest..or something....ech I'm not sure, but that just gave me a new insight on this all. Thanks Viktoria

Il n'est pas de quoi, ma aime. I just never was under the impression that those characters had little else to think about but their careers. I think that maybe Carlotta and Piangi had an affair of some sort but that they thought little else but their careers and themselves. Besides, who would want to marry Carlotta?

The entire message of Phantom of the Opera, is--at least to me--that anyone can find loves no matter who you are. Carlotta is another example. She cared for him and Piangi obviously did as well. it's really complex to understand where they come from but it's just because the story isn't about Carlotta of the Opera...*awkward turtle*

The Countess

Hahahaha I love awkward turtles!

Anyway, I see what you mean. I stand by that they weren't married but perhaps Piangi pursued her for her affections while Carlotta wanted to give in but loved her career too much.
