I'm sure theres a lot of people on this board that are equally a fan of Phantom of the Opera as well as the Harry Potters books. To be a fan, I actually only own the fifth book Order of the Phoenix. I plan on buying the sixth one Half Blood Prince when it comes out though, reading it the first day seems too tempting to me. I gotta splurge.

I preordered it through Borders... $17.99. I guess it's kind of my tradition to take the 'day off' when the newest HP book comes out and doing nothing but reading. In fact, I've finished each one the day it came out. I'm a speedy reader. :)

I only got into HP a couple of years ago. I bought the first three and read them all in one go, and read GOF in a few hours in one sitting when I bought that a month or so later. I got OotP the day that came out and now that Amazon have guaranteed July 16th delivery for HBP, I'm going to preorder that and wait by the door for when the post comes :D

I feel old then, though Im only sixteen years old. Ive been into Harry Potter for about five years now I think, way back then when only three books were released. (It might have been two, I cant remember) But Im a fast reader as well, I remember finished OOTP in like three hours because thats all I did, was sit down and read the book non-stop. I plan on doing the same for HBP.

I'm anxiously awaiting the release of the new book..what is it 93? 92? days left? Like Steve I've been a fan for about 5 years I think, ever since the first three (maybe two) were out. Though I wasn't as obsessive as I am now! :P I just preordered it at Borders and hopefully I'll be able to get it at midnight (or close to it).
I try to read the HP books as slowly as I can though because I'd hate to read them all in a signal day. So hopefully I can draw it out over three maybe four days. I think OotP took me about that to read.

Hmm I ain't really a HP fan, but I have seen the films & do read the books occasionally. The films were okay, though I have a lot of points to critisize (I always do lol). The books are good, imo. I may get the Half Blood Prince when it comes out, but I doubt it as I'm rather short of money as it is. Will probs get it when the prices go down considerably :D

Lol OG, I know plenty of people who do that so you'd be in good company!
Here's a thought for everyone: who's your favourite character, and why?
Mine's Neville Longbottom because, well, he tries so hard to be a good wizard and he really makes the effort to stand up for his friends. He's just an adorable little kid.
(Though Lupin and Dumbledore both come a close second).

I was lucky and got my copy of Order of the Phoenix on sale for like fourteen dollars a few monthes ago when I got it, though I think the binding was slightly defective or something like that. I've seen some stores come down on the prices while others stick with the printed prices on the inside of the cover.
I'm not sure whether I have a specific favorite character, and it's not Harry Potter for those of you who would say he was.

I love HP, in particular The Prisoner of Azkaban book - it is singularly the best book I've read in a long time. I love reading HP fics, in particular the Remus/Sirius relationship. :mask:
The Phantom
04-24-2005, 09:20 PM
Ah, I know a few people that support 'puppy-love' with Remus/Sirius. I've read a few slashy fanfictions but I'm not really into the stuff, lol. Theres people that are crazed slashers that live and die for that kind of stuff.
On the subject of the release of Half Blood Prince, I'm going to go to a midnight party at one of the book stores in town. I didn't go when OOTP was released. :(

I've been a fan of Harry Potter practically since the books came out. A lot of people in my elementary school read them too, so we'd read the new ones together. Yes, I am obbsessed :-p
Anyone who knows me can vouch that I'm a little over my head with slash.. for some reason, I read IP, and then started to ship H/D. Then there was the Puppy love thread on H-C, and I read a very convincing Remus/Sirius essay. (I however, do not delve into the realms of twincest, Ron/Harry or Harry/Hermione *shudders*)
The Phantom
04-25-2005, 01:17 AM
I don't think R/HP and HP/H classify as twincest really. I thought the term referred to the sickos that liked to pair George and Fred Weasley together as a couple, not Harry and Hermione. You might have to explain that more to me, lol.

Ive read all 5 books. Ive read the first 4 like 20 times each (no im not exagerating. I can quote them very well too) and ive read the 5th one 3 or 4 times and plan to again before the 6th book comes out. The fourth and fifth books both made me cry!

Major Potter fan here! I've loved the Potter novels since 1999, when my 6th grade teacher gave me copies of the first three for my birthday. :D As for favorite characters... I can't pick just one. I like Dumbledore, Sirius, Lupin, Hagrid, Harry, all the Weasleys, Hermione, Voldemort, the Malfoys... aw, heck, I love 'em all! I am eagerly awaiting HBP and the GOF movie. I remember in June 2003, I was in Washington, D.C. for the National History Day competition, and the day we were to return home was the same day OOTP went on sale! One girl in my group somehow managed to get one! (don't ask me how.) So, for the entire plane ride home, I kept trying to read over her shoulder (since I happened to be sitting right behind her). :)

I'm a big HP myself. I watched the first 2 movies after they were already out on DVD and only read the books a year ago. I finished reading the first 4 about a month before the 5th book came out.
Before then I just thought they were stupid kids books, boy was I wrong! I soon got very addicted to them. I was very dissapointed with the 3rd movie but I got over it after the DVD came out and I watched it for the 2nd time. I was just used to the way the first 2 movies were made and I thought hte 3rd was going to be the same.
I can't wait for the 6th book to come out! It comes out 7 days before my birthday, so I either have to wait until my birthday, or tell everyone that I'm buying it on the first day it comes out no matter what lol. I also can't wait for the 4th movie. I'm going to try really hard to detach myself from this book for the movie. It's going to be hard but I'm going to try.

I got into the Harry Potter books in 2000 when they were reporting all over the news the kids who had been chosen to star in a Harry Potter movie, and that was also when Goblet of Fire came out. I started by borrowing the books from my friend who's Mum was already a big fan of the books before all the movie talk.
I own all the Harry Potter books now and am going to go reserve a copy of Half Blood Prince next time I'm in the city so I can guarantee a copy on July 16.
My favourite book was originally Chamber of Secrets, but now I love Order of the Phoenix.

I was going ot reserve a copy of the 6th book at the local book store, but I did that last time when the 5th book came out and they had so many copies that it didn't really matter at all.
I own all the books and when the 7th one comes out I paln on getting them all in the adult covers in the box set hehe. That way I have a set that doesn't look so ratty (yes I'm weird)

I'll probably end up reserving a copy of Half Blood Prince so I can be guarunteed to get the book. They'll probably run out of what is in stock the night they release everything. Is anyone else going to one of the all night parties?
I sure am. :)

If there is going to be a huge party here in Hawaii, I'm definitely going. When books 4 and 5 came out, I didn't hear much news regarding parties, so I didn't go to any. :( I haven't reserved my copy yet, so I probably should do it soon.

For example, I should have reserved a copy of the Special Edition Phantom CD because new things like this seem to run out so quickly. Luckily I found a whole pile of them at a DVD store, so I was lucky. Back on topic... I usually don't get the books until like a year after they come out because I'm a procrastinator (and I hate to spend money). I've loosened up a bit so I'm going to make sure to get a copy. :)

You've got to loosen up for HP - it's way too good to pass up, lol. I'm really looking forward to the next book - I still haven't reserved a copy...*makes mental note to do so*. :). I wish there was an all night party around here for HP...I'm not sure if there is though.

Angel of Music - ironically, my birthday is seven days *after* the book comes out,.
I was browsing MuggleNet this morning, and found something interesting. You should check out potterparties.com - it's a database of parties around the world that are being held in bookstores for the release of the book. I'm going to keep an eye on that to see if any come up for the UK.

I've loved the HP books since they came to the US in October of 1998! I'm a die-hard fan!! I have read them all, seen all the movies, and have gone to all the midnight openings (movies and 3rd, 4th, + 5th books [didn't have one for the first 2]). I love them to death!! I've joined two HP boards. They are www.dumbledores-army.net and www.three-tasks.com. My name on both of them is Mrs.HarryPotter. I am anxiously waiting for the coming of the book at midnight on July 16th and the next move, GoF, at midnight on November 18th.

My mom reserved it for me already. I felt so loved. XD
Anyway, I've been a fan since I was... Eight, I think. The first three were out then. I was over at a friends' house. All four of the people were telling me that I would love it, and that I should really read it. (Two of these people were one year younger than me. Twins, in fact. The other was one year older. And the last was their mom. XD)
So, I started reading it. I actually started reading Prisoner of Azkaban first. I think that because of that, it's still my favorite. :)
And as far as pairings go... I'm fond of R/Hr, and H/G. That's about it, really. Though I do read an occasional slash fic or two.

My grandma bought me Prisoner of Azkaban when i was young (and in my mom's opinion, to young to read it) and i had just gotten into the book when my mom heard all the backlash it had made with the churches, and she pulled it out of my hands to read it first, just to make sure. By that time, i realized that i was reading the third first, so when she was done, i made her go buy the first two. I read them all in two days. In fact, i took them to school and read them while the teacher was talking (Thankfully, she didn't notice) and then i waited patiently for GOF to come out. I read that 52 times because i wanted to memorize it. I got to chapter 7 (memorized) when i gave up. i don't remember much of the word-for-word thing right now, but i'm sure if i really tried, i could say something.
Yes, i have a lot of time on my hands.

I've been a bad boy and not reserved my copy of Half Blood Prince. I need to do it soon because at the end of June a lot of bookstores are going to stop having the copies reserved. I think Books a Million has the cheapest reservation rate I've seen so far, like you only pay $16 dollars for the book when its usually over $30.

^^ I haven't either. I'm really worried that my mom won't want me to take it to camp cause I have to go to camp the day after it comes out. My sister and me are gonna be fighting over who reads it first like we did for OotP.

Hmm I've never really been a HP fan. I read all of the books in one summer two years ago because up until that point I wasn't allowed to read it because of the witchcraft in it...but I felt they were a little too juvenile for my style of books. <---that sounds like a weird way of putting it. But, I really liked the third movie and Harry just seems to be getting cuter as he gets older. Daniel should wear glasses all of the time because they really do become him.

Heather and Steve should know what a nut I am on HP.
About a week ago there was a radio contest...I got every question right, and the tie breaker. The tiebreaker asked How many pages HBP would be, I hit the nail on the head.
I know she's doing a reading at midnight in Edinborough, that's all I know though. That's actually what the contest was for on the radio.
I do feel old though, cause all contests I've seen are for 16 or under. Makes me wish I was younger lol

Ahhh yes... Harry Potter. Another one of my nearly-unhealthy obsessions. I have had my copy of HBP pre-ordered since January *blushes* I have been reading the books since a year or two before the production of the movies began. My favourite book must be Chamber of Secrets, though I am not quite sure why, because all the books have their own very unique personality. I believe my dearest characters are, in order, Severus Snape, Draco & Lucious Malfoy (they are a team >>), and Sirius Black. And yes, he IS coming back... he has to *pout*.
Only four more days to the release! Certainly I am going to an all-night party! How can one miss them!?

I'm planning on going to the local bookstore for the Midnight party when the books came out. I preordered my book off the same website but I'm not sure I'd get it that night. It makes me wary that I might get the book spoiled for me if I went... some kid cracking open his book, screaming, "Dobby died! Wah!" I'd probably be one of the few teenagers there. ;)

I read the book in about 8 hours after I got it, staying up all night from the suspense of finding out who the Half Blood Prince was. (Note to self, we could use a HBP thread probably for people to talk about the book, but this thread will do fine for right now).
This was the first time I cried at the end of a book from the sadness of everything, with the person dying that we all know who died lol and the identidy of the Half Blood Prince. I read a good fanfiction though that reassured some stuff that I thought could be true about the HBP.

Aye, I know what you mean. I've discovered quite a few plausable theories that could explain why character 1 killed character 2, that may not necessarily mean that char. 1 is evil. (We should start a HBP thread with a spoiler warning, shouldn't we?) :D

I feel so behind...I read all 3 books at the beginning, but then it seemed to take forever for the fourth one to come out so I started reading all 3 over again. I read the fourth one, but never have gotten around to the fifth or sixth, but I just saw the fourth movie in theaters and now I just can't wait to pick up a book again, but I know who dies and it kills me to even think of reading it, but I have to know what happens!

I'm certainly not a fan of Character #1, as James referred to, and definitely don't think it was spite, or hatred that they acted out of - heh, also a theory, but I think they'd had the discussion before as to what character #2 wanted #1 to do if they were ever in that situation, and told #1 to do it. It would explain away their earlier argument, if #1 refused to do it, and got angry, and I believe that #2 was begging #1 to do it, in the end, as opposed to begging for their life. *nods* Now go and shoot me down, people! I'm glad that your okay. So anyways, I hope think that Warner Bros did a horrible job on the movies, but that isn't the point. I love Harry Potter as much as the next guy, or girl. So honestly, the 4th book is teh best one. I think that each one should have that much tension, and drama like the Goblet of Fire. I couldn't put it down.

Me either- I've read the Goblet of Fire 14 times, and its still keeping suspense for me. It's probably the best book I've ever read- so well written, and action packed. Warner Bros. completely messed it up in the movie. Two words- No Winky.

WB also messed up by not putting in the S.P.E.W. that Hermione started. But, you also have to remember GoF was like over 700 pages. How are you going to put EVERYTHING into a 2 1/2 hour movie?

They also needed to put Bill into that movie. They won't get a chance to put him in OotP. He's mildly important to book 6 and important to the beginning to book 7.
I hope Bill and Fleur fall a part. I cannot STAND that girl. She's so... self absorbed and.... flirtatious..... and just..... grrrrrrrrrrr. I don't like her. No offense to anyone who likes that (litterly) beast.

Chris, don't worry, I don't like her either... DIE! *ahem*
I hate that they left out so many characters, and I hope that in upcoming moive that some of them show up, or the 6th one is not going to make sense! Whenever my friends & I go to see it, I have to explain some of it (and in the case of GOF, over HALF of it!), because they haven't read the books, thus confused about certain parts.
Is anyone else going to the Book part for Book 7? I know I am... thankfully, I don't have Band Camp (the horror).

Snape deserves to DIE! Sorry to anyone who likes that monster.
*coughs* Ahem. There are plenty of people who do, so tinkering your wording just a little bit might make it seem like you're actually sincere in your apology. Just a suggestion though. I mean, I'm not a 'Snape fan', but I was offended by that remark. It sounds like you disregard the opinions of those opposite you and that's hurtful. Please, try and be nicer about having a different opinion.
Okay, now for my opinion. I'm reading all the books currently(I've 'read' them all, but I'm going back for details) and I don't find anything seriously wrong with Snape. It's strange, but I actually have a bitter-sweet affection for him as a character. Kind of like the way you feel for a relative or friend who is going through a mental battle. I think Snape is cool actually(don't hold me to that though, I may change my mind). Yes, he killed Dumbledore. But don't you think that he had a reason? I do.
And I'm currently reading the second book again, and LOVING it so far. Harry Potter might just be the most well-written series I've ever read(next to LOTR of course). It's just awesome.
I don't know why, but I get an odd pleasure from when Snape hurls Lockhart across the room VIA the Expelliarmus spell....

lol. I know what you mean. I like Snape, don't get me wrong, but I think he will die in the next book. He will ide because he shows his true colors, either way, he would die. The death eaters would kill him with no remorse and Harry might kill him because he killed Dumbledore. I dunno, its just a theroy.

*eep! sorry!*
Don't cry, another theroy about Snape's death is he might sacrifice himself for the Order. So he's a good guy.
More than Music
05-31-2007, 07:28 PM
Yes, he's a good guy in many ways. But not too much of a good guy. When they're too much of a good guy, they're just not interesting anymore.
It's like all the fuss about 'Severus Snape: Friend or Foe' and 'The Great Snape Debate'. Snape isn't either. If he was, he wouldn't be interesting. If he was 'friend', then he wouldn't give people so much reason to hate him at Hogwarts. If he was 'foe', then he wouldn't have helped Harry when he did(not to mention that Dumbledore wouldn't have let him be a teacher at Hogwarts, because Dumbledore knows just about EVERYTHING).
masquerading rose
05-31-2007, 07:35 PM
Yes. exactly! Snape is a good guy, but not too good. if he were too good, he would go around handing out lollipops and bubblegum and flowers and balloons. But he's not too bad. If he were to bad, he would go around beheading people left and right. So he's just like a grumpy good guy.

I'm a fan of Harry Potter and I have all 7 books in hardcover, as well as the
3rd in paperback because it's my favorite.
I was so glad they didn't kill Ron off in the last book. I felt sad that Lupin died.
And when Sirius died in the 5th book, I was SO MAD!:mad2:

I have been a fan of Harry Potter (in general) since January of 2000. I've read all the books countless times and even have parts of certain ones memorized.
And when Sirius died in the 5th book, I was SO MAD!
Oh, yes, I must agree with you. After his death, I was in mourning for more than a year, and even though I'm mostly over it now, it's still a challenge to read/watch that portion.
Rest in peace, Sirius...we love you! :BrokenHeart:

I've been reading hp books since 2000 as well, I can remember my year one teacher recommending it to us during class. Ah the good old days...
I completely agree. I was morning for Sirius for quite a while as well, but I think right now my longest morning hasbeen for Severus. Personally, I didn't start liking Snape until the 5th book came out, and by then I found a sort of pleasure reading about him in the books. His sarcastic comments always left me laughing.
When I read the last book, I sobbed my heart out when he died, I really did...It was one of the most tragic things I've ever read, apart from Susan Kay's Phantom.
As well as Dobby's death, that was heart wrenching too...Damn, I cried a lto during the alst book.
I can fully see why J.K. called Snape a 'gift of a character', because he is honestly such an amazing person. I applaud her for having the imagination to create him.

I love the series! Isn't it true that JK Rowling's friend gave her the idea before the friend passed away. So how JK has taken the story under her wing...right? If not correct me :\
But it would be so amazing to think about what they would write about Harry.
Hermine is my favorite girl character!
Snape is exactly what my World History teacher is. My teacher for stagecraft is Magonigal (spelling?). And the nurse is the nurse. Go figure!

J.K. Rowling had the idea for Harry Potter while riding a train back in 1990.
Over the next seven years, she created the story, characters, locations, etc. During this time, she suffered several hardships (her mother died, her husband left her and her daughter, she suffered from depression - all the while surviving on benefits), which had a big impact on her writing.
Your History teacher is like Snape? I feel for you. lol
Anyway, I love this series! I read the first six books back in 2006, and read the last when it came out in 2007. Has anyone heard of Pottermore?
