I have recently seen the West-end production of JCS, and I absolutely loved it. Everyone that took part was amazing. Each person played their roles perfectly - there were no mistakes whatsoever and a cast of only 21 people!
I was, needless to say, thoroughly impressed. Have any of you seen a production of the show?

Jesus. Duh duh dah duh dunt. Jesusss.
My marching band my freshmen year did a rendition of the show by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Everytime I hear the music, especially the intros or the ballad, I get chills up my spine. Sadly, I didnÂ’t get to see the stage production in New York while it was on Broadway.

The one I saw was excellent, but I was disappointed with Jesus - he had no passion behind him. Judas was perfect - he had enough passion for 5 Jesus'. The play is more about Judas than any of the others, but Jesus still has a good part to play.
Mary Magdolen (sp) was brilliant aswell - she had a wonderful singing voice.

I saw the movie version...'twas brilliant. I truly enjoyed it. The music was fantastic (though not as good as POTO...not that I expected it to be...I mean, what is?), and the character portrayals were wonderful. Overall, one of my favorite broadway shows.
This is a little off-topic, but Antoin- are you Raoul from Sweet Music's Throne? I recognized the name...

I've only seen bits and pieces of the movie and such from when we would watch it in band class. I can't seem to find a copy anywhere to rent and watch, because I haven't seen the whole thing. But back to the music... the slow songs and the overture send great chills up my spine, but probably not as much as Phantom!
Its fine to get a little off topic, but private messages are good as well for comments. :)

I'd very much like to see that one! I've heard it's very good. I want to see more ALW's after Phantom, because that was awesome! I hope to see JCS on stage some day.

I'm not a big fan of JCS, I saw the stage version and it just wasn't my kind of musical - I do however love the song "I Don't Know How To Love Him" :D

Some of Andrew Lloyd WebberÂ’s work sounds the same from all his pieces; I canÂ’t remember right off the top of my head, but a piece from Phantom was based on a piece from JCS. Same rhythm, or something like that. On the music aspect of things, I guess ALWÂ’s work sends chills up my spine. :)

I love the song 'I Don't Know How To Love Him' I sang that in my voice class...
Hey did anyone see the version where Lawson Skala played Ciaphis? He's my favorite person in the WORLD he's the nicest guy!

The ballet right there was my favorite piece when my marching band performed it. I was playing second clarinet and it was so wonderful because we had the melody. I was one of the only ones that played out and could manage it, so basically I had a solo. :)

Am I the only one who cried at the end of the movie? I adored the movie version of it -- "Gethsemane" is my favorite song. I especially love it when Michael Crawford sings it on his ALW anthology -- he has such passion, such pain behind every word. Don't mean to brag, but the best part about "Gethsemane" is, I can sing it -- soprano!

I haven't tried to sing the songs from the movie or play yet, lol. I haven't cried during the songs but I've definitely have had chills run up my spine. I don't know what it is about it that makes me feel that way, heh.

My absolute favorite song in JCS is "I Don't Know How to Love Him." I am flippin' obsessed with that song...I hum it all the time. Lots of the people at my church were upset with the way Mary was portrayed as being in love with Jesus, but I actually really liked that.
And no, Zelda, you weren't the only one who cried... I shed a little tear at the end, too.
Hey, did anybody else feel really bad for Judas? I mean, I'm not sure if you're supposed to or anything, but I felt so sorry for the guy...

Lol, I watched part of the movie the other day in band class when we didn't have anything to do. I would say it's been nearly two years since I saw the movie for the first time... and probably more than that.

I own the first movie...Awesome...I have the movie soundtrack...somewhere...haven't been able to find it in about 3 years...but I have bought the Origional Cast Recording....Love it!!! My most fav song is King Harod's song!!! It's so funny, and I love it.
I really want to see it on stage, but the closest thing to that is the movie...so I guess I can watch JCS anytime I want....but not same as stage though....

Jesus Christ Superstar has already gone off Broadway in New York City but I'm sure its somewhere on tour right now. Let me search again on Broadway World and see if I can find the tour schedule:
Ok, there is no tour schedule. :(
Watching JCS made me much more sympathetic to Judas, it humanized his character. If there was ever a play like that based around God and Lucifer, that would be great~! I love all the songs he sing, especially the sonng Damned for all time.

I thought Jesus Christ Superstar was OK... yes only OK. Maybe that's because I was comparing it toPOTO instead of going in with an open mind. But parts like "What's the buzz, tell me whats a-happinin" went on for sooooooooooooooo long I actually had to fast forward through some of it. It made me cry though.... when Jesus said "Will no one stay a wake with me?" and when he died.... :(

JCS has such passion in it. I alomst love it as much as I do POTO, but I still love POTO better...I think there may be one musical that I might like better than POTO, and that would be "Aspects of Love" But that is for a different discussion.
As I had read earlier in this thread, someone had said something about it being more about Judas, and they are right. It's the last like 2 weeks of Jesus' life, as told by Judas.
But my all time fav from JCS is King Herod's Song!! I love it!! I have heard 4 different versions of it, and love all 4 of them!! Then would have to be I don't know how to love him....love that song!!
There are so many great things about this musical, I could go on for days!! But I won't...so I guess this will have to do lol

I haven't seen the film, or the play, but I adore the music. My mom has the CD from when she saw the play many years ago. Some of my favorite songs aare "Gethsemane" (so sad, but it is so well sung, and great tune), "Heaven on their Minds", "Superstar", "I don't know how to Love Him", and basically all of the other ones too.

I just rented the older one last weekend, and I must say, it is interesting... I love the CD that I've been listening to, and I wasn't impressed with the movie. I think that the person who played Jesus could have done a better job.

Courtney... Do you mean wall-eyed Jesus? Ted Neeley? I liked him in the movie, but I must say, I prefer the newer 2000 version better. Don't ask me why, 'cause I have no idea. Maybe it's their Mary...I think she looks more 'Mary Magdeline'-ish.
Have you seen the 2000 version? It's set in semi-modern times, so I think it works better with the music and such.

I saw the 2000 version last year for a religion class, I thought it was pretty good. I would see it again if I had the tape.

Yeah, the Ted Neeley version was the one that I saw. I've never seen the newer one. It isn't at any of the movie rental places where I live. Ian Gillan is Jesus in the CD that my mom bought. He does an excellent job at singing. Maybe I would have liked Ted Neeley a little better if I had listened to him first for awhile, but I just love Ian Gillan's voice. Maybe my parents will get me the other JCS for Christmas...

I agree, the 2000 version is much better than the Ted Neeley version, because I find Glenn Carter to have a prettier voice. Of course, Ian Gillan is amazing, although I don't particularly like his version of "Gethsemane"...
...because Michael Ball's version is the best one I've ever heard. He doesn't scream, like so many others do. Which makes me loooove him. If you guys get a chance, listen to it. It's truly spectacular.
But I saw it on stage once as a professional production, and I saw it once as a church production. I was lucky enough to see Barry Dennen (Pontius Pilate on the "Brown Album," the OBC) as King Herod. It was really cool - he was actually terrific as Herod.
As for Judas, Murray Head is the best one I've heard. (Interesting Fact: He's the older brother of Anthony Stewart Head, who played Giles in Buffy.) I just love the tone and quality of his voice.
Favorite Mary Magdalene is hard, because I like Yvonne Elliman, but Renee Castle (2000 version) was really, really good.
Before I go on forever, the basic idea is that I love the show, it's up there among my favorites, I love the 2000 version the most, and I'd love to be in it/see it again.
Favorite songs: "Gethsemane," "This Jesus Must Die," "Could We Start Again, Please?," "I Don't Know How to Love Him," and "Hosanna."

I love this musical!! I sang I Don't Know How To Love Him for a party, church, and for my audition!!! I actually got in the school from the audition!! *tear of joy* and well I love Mary Mag...she's such a strong character in the entire bible. She was there when Jesus was in the tomb. Her life is so distorted and lost, but thank Jesus she's become who she is today! I love Sarah as the part she does such a great job for it!! I plan on seeing it one day in London!
