Is there just one scene in the recent film version of the Phantom of the Opera that makes you wonder?

Then makes your imagination run wild with your own funny theories?

Well I have one. You know the Masquerade scene where the Phantom appears, notice how Raoul leaves Christine and sneaks off?

Where did he go?
Did he runaway?
What was he doing?
Was he just going to leave Christine as bait?

Well of course we see him come back with his sword, but my friend and I were making up theories of what he was really doing because he came back looking like he was doing up his belt.

Did he go to the toilet?

We had another stupid theory where Raoul ran off to have a private session with Meg Giry (because at the Masquerade she clearly has large assets) because Christine was too occupied with Gerry to give Raoul any attention. lmao.

What are your queries?

Lol!! Well... I don't really make up secret theories. I just thought that Raoul went to get his sword there. I don't think much else occured to me...

Cinty is right, he went to get his sword. When he comes rushing back, he's buckling it. (Unless he went to the restroom :p )

Where does the Phantom go the the restroom?
Does he have a tailor?
Where'd he get the organ?
HOW'd he get the organ?

Things that actually can't be 'splained... without creativity, of course. :D

Yeah, and how did he get the organ across the lake and into his lair? That boat doesn't look strong enough to do it... Same goes for the bed. :D And why did he go to all the trouble of getting an organ when he doesn't even play it?

Why did Erik not simply finish Raoul off quickly in the chamber of mirrors? And why didn't he somehow prevent Mme. Giry from getting in to save him?

How on earth did Erik cause that little light to switch on in Gustav DaaƩ's masoleum? Or was Christine simply imagining it?

Why didn't Erik try to prevent Christine from taking off his mask in "Stranger Than You Dreamt It?" It was kinda obvious what she was about to do, even if he wasn't listening to what she was singing. :D

And some queries about the Phantom aka Erik...

How he made all his secret passage ways & trapdoors without being noticed. Some are in well used places, like stairs.
How he get candles to rise out of the waters in tiers without touching anything
How those dratted candles rose lit out of a lake without being doused? That defeats logic.
Why he has this random magical power to cause power cuts whenever he gets angry?

I reckon Raoul went to the toilet cuz he was scared, then decided to get his sword after so it would look like he'd only gone to get it. ;)

It defeats logic of the time period, certainly, but not logic in itself, as the candles they used for that scene actually did light as soon as they came out of the water.

I have one - why did Schumacher have to direct it?

How was Christine orphaned at age seven, and yet still classify herself and Raoul as childhood sweethearts before her father died? How old was Raoul then? :cd12:

Because the Phantom discovered electricity before anyone else in the world. Remember, he's a genius! :p
So when the candles came out of the water you can so tell that they are lightbulbs! Most of them aren't even flickering like real candles so it makes you wonder. :p

Raoul and Christine knew each other before her father died when they lived on the coast or something to that extent. I remember that part from reading Gaston Leroux's book. You can be a childhood sweetheart at a young age; why do you think that Raoul and Christine had the little lotte thing going on? Little lotte thought nothing more of dolls and chocolates (something like). That just screams little girl. ;)

LMAO HELL YES! That is SO the reason Raoul nicked off for a while there... not to grab his sword, but because he saw a great opportunity for a little "private time" with Meg and siezed it! Raoul, you are just so busted, mate. :D

I wondered this, sing_for_me... I kind of thought that Raoul would have been at least 5 years older than Christine... I think that was pretty obvious... so at the very least that makes Raoul 12 when Christine was just 7... probably older. So that's a little pervy, lol!

Heehee... *giggles* I actually have a story about how the Phantom got Christine into that wedding dress since I saw a lot of posts about people wanting to know how... If you want to read my theory, here's linkage! http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2385466/1/
And I think I'm about to go post in in the "Work of a Genius" so you can read it either place! :) Hope you enjoy it!

I always wondered what Madame Giry was doing in all those opportune places, like to save Meg from entering the dungeons, saving Raoul in the hall of mirrors, or peering conspiculously at the characters as they moved off into a major point in the plot. ;)

^ ditto. She always seems to know when the main characters are getting into danger - like when Raoul goes to Christine after ThinkOfMe therefore endangering his life from Erik's anger; when Meg wanders off down the corridor behind the mirror; when Raoul's in the 'the mirror maze...

Another question. In "Think Of Me", Raoul sings his 'can it be, can it be Christine? - bravo!' line then runs out of his box and jogs down the stairs (whilst being watched by Mme Giry). Where is he going? Why does he run out, before Christine's even finished her song, before the opera has finished?!

How about the part in the movie where Christine is locked in her dressing room? Madam Giry just stands there and watches the Phantom lock her in, totally pimping her off for the Phantom. She knows Christine is going to get into danger.

Yeah I know it's odd. Maybe he is eager to make it to her dressing room first but he gets lost. I mean, when Christine goes into her dressing room, Raoul only turns up after there is a crowd already there and he pinches some flowers off the directors. Another interesting escapade of Raoul.

He was going to the bathroom, of course! You see, he has an overactive bladder, so when he saw Christine, he had a sudden urge to urinate and had to leave before he wet himself. :D

No, they did use real (special) candles when filming that shot. However, like the chandelier crash, they could only make it work once. :)

I always wondered, how did all of the candles go out? Does he have little fairies working for him or something? I mean, he can't have that much air in his lungs.

And, what did Erik do while Christine slept in the swan bed? How long was she asleep?

Or what about during "Little Lotte/Angel of Music" when he tries to open the door? Once the song starts, we don't see him until "Notes". I wonder what he was doing? Maybe he went out to the pub...

Erik
10-08-2005, 03:04 PM
(Welshrose)lol. Maybe he went and cried in a corner somewhere because she was in her dressing room with another man!

(Christine) Bahahaha! yes....little fairies....
Or maybe he does have that much air in his lungs. Or maybe he just waits for them all to go out before getting new ones! Such a guy....

And while Christine slept, presumably for a good few hours, the Phantom was doing a number of things: Working on his masterpiece, playing Cat's Cradle, doing a Crossword, all sorts of fun things!

And how about the Why So Silent scene when he comes over the staires? They all scream, so they must know that he's the Phantom, yet no one runs away or anything.

And where did he get his costume? Did he make it himself, or did he buy it?

In the book he cried a lot. So he probably was crying somehwere.
Raoul: She's with that metaphorical angel of music! *cries*

I thought Raoul was scared of the Phantom and ran away!! haha! Obviously he came back. :s With a sword. xD Which he didn't actually use. o__0

When a friend of mine first saw the scene, she noticed the part where Raoul was returning with a sword to challenge the Phantom... except she didn't see the sword at first when Raoul was attaching it to his belt. Therefore, he assumed that Raoul was zipping up his pants at that part, and had gone to... er, take care of business while Erik was toying with the managers. XD

If you go to youtube and type in the phantom of the opera in 15 minutes on the seen with Raoul leave Christine they were talking over the recording and the person talking Raoul's voice said "A sword! I knew I forgot something." I mainly think that was why he left though but who knows.

At the end of the movie where the rose was on the grave. How did Phantom out live Christine? He was older than her. So how did he live long enof to put the rose on the grave? and in the book Christine outlived phantom.

I htink he got away from the mob or that brave little Meg saved him or something along those lines. I think he lived, but in the book, that is definatly not the case. Or maybe it was just Raoul hallucinating. He was old, you know. I don't know, that's just my interperation of it.

Afterall, though the one thing that bugs me is the age gap....and how they present the characters - He is Erik, The Phantom...And since he was a genius, he must have invented a potion to long live or something!

I always wondered where the heck did E/C fall in the PONR scene when they descend through the flames? I envision them falling, falling, falling, then bo-ing! They bounce on a trampoline or something! :D

I love to envision what would have happened in the cemetary scene if Raoul had NOT shown up to distract Christine. Would Erik have actually taken Christine into the tomb?! Then what? I like to envision all the possibilities. :D

I was wondering, after watching the movie again and again and..AGAIN...that in the scene where Erik descends the stairs dressed in red, he has "brought the finished score" of Don Juan Triumphant...

BUT.
why didnt he have it in his hands when he came down the stairs...?
cos his "cape" didn't look like it had any pockets, and his costume looked kinda hard to stuff a massive score into...

Good one. Why did Shumacher have to direct it? In my opinion, Alan Parker should have directed this movie. He directed the movie version of EVITA which was done very well.

Yes, Meg dress was slightly attention grabbing, but I'm not sure if Raoul would resource to such...ideas. (haha) Anywho, I really think that he was just trying to leave without people noticing him much. If they did notice him, Erik would notice their attention moving towards him and then Raoul's dead...sad sad. But then again, Erik would have know if he had left Christine's side whether he saw or not, but then again he could have been gazing at Daae far too much (her dress was slightly distracting as well--haha!).
So, when he left...he could have been getting some air because he was shocked, going to get some champagne (he did run into a wall while chasing after Mme Giry), rushing to find his sword which could have possibly been in the bathroom, or something else of my wild imagination.

I reckon Raoul went to the toilet cuz he was scared, then decided to get his sword after so it would look like he'd only gone to get it. ;)

yes yes! remember men go to the bathroom twice, or even thrice, times faster than us females :D.

The Bathroom YES! Thats PRESICELY where he went! :biglaugh: He probably went to his carrage to get his sword. But did yall notice that the coat of arms on his carrage at the beginning of the movie loked like a bag of chips. Mabey he was hungery and wanted some chips.

Perhaps his sword was hanging on the stall...could happen ;)...and then he got some wine...and then...swordfight. That's probably why he was more than confused in the mirror torture chamber than anything.

or probably he didn't want to be noticed so he went through the back...

My "guess" is that Raoul saw what an awesome costume Erik had on and went to fetch his own costume prop so he wouldn't feel he was losing his manhood...

That's pretty silly, isn't it? Actually, Gerry's Red Death discusts me. No way should that fabric be that tight. ;)

That's silly, but it's okay. Most of these are crazy, well some of them.......bathroom! Hey you know that it's Joel that suggested that costume. haha! Awkward!!!

Icky, I can't see why. Of course, we all know how Joel likes to sex things up. Grrrrrrrrr *mutters something that certain phans would take offense to*.

Anyway, the bathroom one is definitly crazy, but of course it's funny. Poor Raoul and his bladder problems.

hey just because guys can go in and out of the bathroom quickly doesn't mean that they don't have bladder issues too...hha assumption! Poor Raoul being nitpicked at…but it was the first thing my mom commented on right when the credits stopped rolling…Made me wanna laugh and go to the bathroom myself.
