Julie Hanson [Christine]  Post [1] »

There used to be an old thread on her, and decided it was appropriate to make a new one that was a little less scary :) oh - and rootleg-irriffic. (cookies to you who know what I'm talking about there).

Nevertheless! Julie Hanson played Christine for some time on the Tour, first as the Princess/Mirror Bride/Understudy, then as the Christine alternate, and then the Principal Christine all within a year or two starting way back in 2002.

Julie has starred on Broadway and across the country as Christine Daaé in The Phantom of the Opera. Her regional credits include Carousel (Julie Jordan) at the Walnut Street Theatre, West Side Story (Maria) at West Virginia Public Theatre, Meet Me in St. Louis (Esther) at Stages St. Louis, and Good News (Connie) at Music Theatre of Wichita. Most recently Julie was a part of Paul Gordon's new musical Emma (Jane Fairfax & u/s Emma) at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis and Cincinnati's Playhouse in the Park. Personally? Huge fan (some of you might say this is a bit of an understatement, but I'll take that with a grain of salt and plead the fifth :P) and she was an awesome christine from what I've heard and read from the not-so-legal and completely legal sources I have at my disposal. Nevertheless, I was quite happy to see she had a new site (see above) considering her old site hadn't been updated in nearly a year. woo current news!

I've never heard of her actually *goes to youtube*

Oh well, she's quite good. Well, she must be to perform with Hugh. She's a tad too nasually for my taste but she has a good vibratto and a pleasant tone. I like her :)

Oh, I've seen one or two Christines cast opposite Hugh who weren't very good at all.

But Hugh once admitted to me that, of all the Christines he's played opposite, she was his ideal for the role.

His exact words were, "I know I shouldn't play favorites, but......OMG......JULIE!!!!!"

I've always felt that her voice had a much clearer, brighter tone to it when heard live...and not so nasal.

It's her acting that made me like her in the role, though. She's one of my top five.

I think that's the disadvantage to clips that have been out there. None of them have done justice to Julie's voice. and oh Hugh... :)
